Sheikha Asma Al Thani conquers Nanga Parbat summit in Pakistan
Sheikha Asma bint Thani Al Thani, a renowned mountain climbing legend, conquered the summit of Nanga Parbat in Pakistan, adding yet another remarkable achievement to her extraordinary record. At 8,126 meters, Nanga Parbat is the ninth highest peak in the world.
With this latest accomplishment, Sheikha Asma has now successfully climbed 9 of the 14 mountains globally that exceed 8,000 meters in elevation.
Currently in Pakistan, Sheikha Asma is focused on her next challenge — reaching the summits of Gasherbrum 1, Gasherbrum 2, and Broad Peak. Upon completion, only the peaks of Shishapangma and Cho Oyu will remain, positioning her to become the first woman in history to conquer all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters and achieve the 'Explorers Grand Slam'—a groundbreaking milestone in mountaineering.
Beyond her remarkable climbs, Sheikha Asma's expeditions serve as a platform for raising awareness of important global issues. Through her journeys, she aims to encourage women and youth in the region to overcome barriers and follow their dreams.
Sheikha Asma has partnered with several international organizations, including Ooredoo and the UNHCR, to advance humanitarian and social causes through her adventurous expeditions.

Team Qatar heads to Germany for FISU world varsity games
Tribune News Network Doha Team Qatar has departed for Germany to participate in the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games, taking place in the Rhine-Ruhr region from July 16 to 27. The event will feature over 8,500 athletes from 150 countries, competing in 18 sports across 23 venues over 12 days. Representing Qatar's rising generation of university athletes, seven players will showcase their talents in four different sports. Abdullah Khalifa and Khalid Hussein will take to the piste in the foil fencing competition. Abdullah Abdulwahab, Youssef Magdy and Maryam Ali will compete in table tennis. Maryam Al-Fatnassi will aim high in the taekwondo arena, while Mubarka Al-Nuaimi will represent Qatar in the fiercely contested tennis events. The Qatari delegation to the World University Games is headed by Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh Al-Nuaimi, president of Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF),andRashid Saeed Adiba, QCSF secretary-general,the delegation director , along with seven male and female athletes and a number of coaches. The World University Sports Conference will be organised in Bochum from July 17 to 19. On this occasion, Adiba emphasised that Qatar's participation aligns with the QCSF's broader strategy to develop and empower student-athletes to compete confidently on the international stage. He stated: 'Our goal goes far beyond simply showing up, westrive to expose our athletes to elite global competition, helping them refine their technical skills, elevate their mental readiness, and strengthen their confidence and competitive spirit.' He added: 'Events like these offer an ideal platform to instill the core values of the university sports movement, excellence, teamwork, integrity, and innovation. They also allow us to build strategic partnerships with universities and sports institutions around the world, reinforcing Qatar's growing presence in the global collegiate sports scene.'

QIB and Visa launch summer campaign with 100 million loyalty points in prizes
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), Qatar's leading digital bank in collaboration with Visa, has announced an exclusive offer for its existing and new Visa Debit and Credit cardholders. Running until 14 October 2025, the campaign rewards a total of 370 customers over a period of 3 months with 100 Million loyalty points prize pool. QIB is rewarding international spends this summer, giving a chance to 70 winners to walk away with a Million loyalty points each in addition to a total of 300 monthly winners with 100,000 loyalty points each. The loyalty points will be offered as Absher, Avios, Marriott Bonvoy or Meera Rewards based on the QIB card used to enter the draw. Every month, 100 winners will be randomly selected, to receive 100,000 loyalty points over a period of 3 months. 70 grand winners will be awarded 1 Million loyalty points each at the end of the campaign, making a total of 370 winners of Visa cardholders. Cardholders will automatically qualify for the monthly draw when spending a total of QAR 1,000 per month on international transactions.
