Sudheer chose a four-seater Jeep model that can shrink in width to function like a bike, allowing it to move through heavy traffic with ease. If driven by a single person in congested areas, it can be reduced to the width of a bike to navigate forward smoothly. He aims to solve traffic issues, even in busy cities like Bengaluru or Hyderabad.
Speaking with TNIE, Sudheer shared that he has many more innovative ideas in the pipeline. Originally from Vijayawada, Sudheer's family relocated to Kakinada a few years ago. Despite his interest in engineering, he couldn't pursue technical education due to his father's illness and subsequent death. Instead, he completed a computer course in 2014 and later moved to Hyderabad for employment.
While working in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, Sudheer frequently encountered heavy traffic, which inspired him to design an alternative mode of transport that could easily navigate traffic congestion. Noticing how bikes could maneuver through traffic while cars remained stuck, he conceptualized a vehicle that could switch between car and bike mode automatically.

MVD mulls introducing geo-fencing to detect rash driving by private buses in Kochi
KOCHI: With rash and negligent driving by private buses claiming another victim in Kochi on Monday, the motor vehicle department (MVD) is mulling the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced geo-fencing technology in the city to detect speeding by vehicles. This was stated by Transport Commissioner C Nagaraju on the sidelines of a function in Kochi. The issue [of speeding] occurs at points of convergence like the High Court though there is sufficient gap between two private bus services at the originating points, he said. 'It's very important for buses to stick to time schedules, especially on routes of convergence. We're planning an AI-based solution. At source stations, the time gap may be five minutes. But at converging points like Kakkanad, Thevara, and Fort Kochi, the buses end up plying with shorter time gaps. We will see whether we can increase the interval. We will conduct a study and develop software for that. We implemented it successfully in Palakkad and we're trying to introduce it in other regions as well,' Nagaraju said. Speaking to the TNIE recently, Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar said the department has already held talks with bus operators on the Palakkad-Thrissur sector where geo-fencing is being introduced. 'The virtual boundaries will be created using a QR code and a chip. The department has been allocated Rs 2 crore from the road safety fund to implement the system,' he said. When asked about Monday's fatal mishap, the commissioner suggested that both parties were at fault.

A year on, traffic park for children in Thanjavur awaits green signal
THANJAVUR: The 'traffic park' established in Thanjavur as part of the Smart Cities Mission scheme has remained out of bounds for children and others for more than a year since its inauguration. Under the scheme, a traffic park was established near the Big Temple at a cost of around Rs 50 lakh. The park spread over 35,000 square feet features scaled-down versions of roads, mini traffic signals, and a slide for children. There was also a proposal for making cycles available for children- to provide them hands-on experience in using the roads and signals at the park. However, the park has remained locked for more than a year. There has been vegetation growth, and equipment like traffic signals and slides seems to be dysfunctional. S M Doss of Anna Nagar in Thanjavur said the park needs to be opened for the benefit of children and others to create awareness about traffic rules. 'Awareness will help children to be self-aware and would also help in reducing accidents,' he added. V Jeevakumar, the legal advisor of Thanjavur Makkal Nala Peravai said if the traffic park is not revived, the area could be used for parking vehicles of tourists to the Big temple. He pointed out the cars and buses are now parked on roadsides, affecting traffic. When contacted, a police officer told TNIE that steps are being taken to get an electricity connection to the traffic park, as the model traffic signals in the park need electricity for functioning. The official also said the process of the city corporation handing over the park to the police department is yet to be completed and that letters regarding this have been submitted to the corporation office.

Airtel, Jio perform Aadhaar face verification without consent for SIM cards
Taslima Begam*, a resident of TNHB Colony in Anna Nagar, said staff at the Airtel and Reliance Jio showrooms in Anna Nagar asked for her Aadhaar number when she approached for a new SIM. 'They then began clicking my pictures. A few minutes later, they told my husband that I needed to update my Aadhaar to proceed with the SIM purchase. At no point did they ask for fingerprint authentication, which I had used two years ago.' She also pointed out that she has been regularly using biometric verification of Aadhaar for purchases at fair price shops. S Chandran*, a lecturer from Mogappair, shared a similar experience. 'While buying a new SIM for my cousin, the staff held a phone in front of her face and asked her to blink. The screen displayed a tick mark. I assumed they were taking her photograph. When I asked the Airtel staff why fingerprint verification was not done, they said the process was over. No one mentioned that face authentication was done.' A union government employee from Padi recounted, 'At the Airtel showroom in Korattur, the staff who captured a photo of my friend asked him to unlock his Aadhaar on his mobile app. Only then did I realise it was face authentication and not clicking of a picture' An Airtel spokesperson acknowledged that there had been a 'communication gap' among showroom staff and said that, effective July 30 (Wednesday), fingerprint authentication has been implemented in Chennai. 'The staff concerned had been instructed not to deny SIM cards to anyone because of failed face authentication,' the spokesperson added. A Reliance Jio spokesperson, however, said face authentication is 'mandatory' for SIM replacements, while it is merely advisory for new connections. However, the spokesperson did not clarify why face authentications were being done without seeking consent. Official sources in the DoT confirmed to TNIE that Aadhaar authentication has been made mandatory for issuing new SIM cards from January this year. However, a SIM card cannot be denied solely on the basis of failed face authentication. 'Aadhaar authentication includes OTP, fingerprint, and iris scan. If any specific complaints are received, they will be looked into,' an official said. Violates UIDAI guidelines The practice, followed by Airtel and jio for the past one year, is in violation of UIDAI's guidelines, which say face authentication is 'consent based' and it is one among the many modes of authentication, which includes fingerprints, iris, and OTP.
