New Baba Vanga, who predicted earthquake and tsunami, has warned of a major disaster in July, and people are cancelling their trips

Time of India20-05-2025

Widespread concern over a Japanese manga artist's prediction of a disaster in July 2025 is affecting Japan's tourism sector. Travel bookings to
Japan
have declined sharply as tourists react to the warning, which has been linked to past accurate forecasts by the artist.
Manga artist's prediction sparks travel concerns
Japanese manga artist Ryo Tatsuki has raised alarm with a prediction of a large-scale disaster expected in July 2025. Travel agencies have reported a fall in tourist interest following the forecast. Some agencies noted cancellations reaching up to 50% during the recent Easter holidays.
Tatsuki, referred to by some as Japan's 'New
Baba Vanga
,' had earlier predicted events like the March 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, the 1995 Kobe earthquake, and the death of singer Freddie Mercury. She first published her predictions in 1999 in a book titled The Future I Saw.
A warning about July 2025
In a revised 2021 edition of The Future I Saw, Tatsuki predicted a major event in July 2025. According to CNN and other media outlets, her forecast includes a possible undersea rupture between Japan and the Philippines. The prediction also refers to tsunamis three times larger than those in 2011 and mentions ocean waters 'boiling,' which some readers believe may point to an underwater volcanic eruption.
The predicted zone includes a diamond-shaped region touching Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, and the Northern Mariana Islands, an area known for high seismic activity.

Tourists cancel travel plans
Travelers are rethinking plans to visit Japan, especially between now and July. WWPKG, a Hong Kong-based travel agency, said that bookings to Japan during Easter were down by about half.
CN Yuen, managing director of WWPKG, told CNN, 'Concerns over Tatsuki's prediction have been compounded by recent advisories from the Chinese embassy in Tokyo.'
In April 2025, the Chinese embassy advised its nationals in Japan to stay alert for natural disasters, citing recent seismic activity and volcanic alerts.
Official response from Japan and China
The South China Morning Post reported that the Chinese advisory called on tourists and residents to 'take extra precautions against natural disasters.'
Japanese officials have not responded directly to Tatsuki's claims. Instead, the Japan Meteorological Agency has stated that no specific alerts have been issued for July 2025. The agency also said Japan's monitoring and early warning systems remain fully active.
Social media reactions
Online discussions have increased under the hashtag #July2025Prediction. Some users have expressed concern and are making preparations. Others have dismissed the prediction, calling it coincidence.
Forums focused on earthquake readiness have seen more user activity, with people sharing safety guidelines and evacuation tips.

‘Alipiri Padala Mandapam' a 300-yr-old heritage structure to get a makeover

Tirupati : The Alipiri Padala Mandapam, a heritage structure at the foot of Tirumala hills and the first spot to be visited by the trekkers, is all set for conservation and restoration. The structure, managed by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), pertains to the Vijayanagara period and as such has suffered damage over passage of time. In tune with the request by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Director (Epigraphs) K Muniratnam Reddy, a team of engineers specialising in the field of conservation and preservation of ancient temples inspected the structure in Tirupati. Pune-based Lord Venkateswara Charitable and Religious Trust, which has agreed to meet the cost of restoration, also deputed its representatives along with the engineers. "Our team studied the methods to be adopted to strengthen the existing Mandapam in order to keep it stable for the next 300 years, without the need for any further intervention", Mr. Muniratnam Reddy said. Ram Kal Path works to start with temple conservation

Nashik: The initial phase of the ambitious, centrally-funded Ram Kal Path project is set to commence with the conservation and renovation of ancient temples and structures. On Thursday, the standing committee of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) approved the civic administration's proposal to award the work order to a Mumbai-based firm. This firm will undertake the renovation and conservation of ancient temples near Ramkund and Kalaram Temple, as well as the façades of structures, at a cost of Rs22.55 crore. The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs146 crore. Central govt has approved Rs100 crore of this, with the balance to be sourced from state govt's tourism department and the NMC. Till date, the Centre has disbursed Rs65 crore to the civic body, with the remaining Rs35 crore are to be released based on the project's progress. The Centre has set a deadline of March 2026 to complete the Ram Kal Path project. The project involves the development of the entire zone from the Ramkund area in Godavari to Kalaram Temple and Seetagumpha in the old Panchavati area.
