Ashton Jeanty has an injury scare after hard hit, but returns to game and scores TD

Ashton Jeanty had little production in a brief outing in his first NFL preseason game. Jeanty looked better in his second game, but also had a welcome to the NFL moment. Jeanty, who had 13 yards rushing on a pair of carries early in the Las Vegas Raiders' game Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers, caught a pass on his first drive, lowered his shoulder and got hit hard. Linebacker Luke Gifford gave Jeanty a hard hit, and although Jeanty got up quickly, he came out of the game and went to the medical tent to presumably have his shoulder lookd at. For those who have fantasy drafts coming up in the next couple weeks, seeing Jeanty suffer an injury was some alarming news. The good news was that Jeanty came out of the medical tent with his helmet and uniform on, and was back on the field on the next drive. And on his next drive he ran over a defender on a nice run. Jeanty looked fast and explosive. He also ran hard and initiated contact. He showed off his power on a touchdown run, keeping his legs moving at the goal line until he was in the end zone. That will be the first touchdown of many for him in a Raiders uniform. Jeanty was the sixth pick of the draft and one of the best running back prospects in many years. Seeing him go to the medical tent caused some skipped heartbeats, but he looked healthy. And for a few carries, looked every bit as good as advertised.

Kansas City Current delay matchup vs. Orlando Pride minutes before kickoff due to excessive heat

A high-level matchup between the Kansas City Current and Orlando Pride has been delayed due to excessive heat — just minutes before the game was supposed to take place. Both teams had warmed up on the field in front of a full crowd, before the game went into an unusual heat-based weather delay. The game was set to kick off at 3:12 p.m. local time. The Current announced the weather delay one minute before that kickoff, at 3:11. At the time that kickoff was supposed to take place, it was 95 degrees in Kansas City, with 46% humidity and a heat index of 103 degrees, per the National Weather Service. Kansas City is under a heat advisory throughout the weekend. The outside temperature is not set to cool down until 6 p.m. CT — three hours after kickoff was supposed to take place. Per the CBS broadcast, the temperature on the field has to be 92 degrees in order for the game to be played. As of 3:30 p.m. CT, the thermometer was stuck just above 96 degrees, indicating that it might be a while until the teams can get back onto the field. This story will be updated.

Saints coach Kellen Moore makes key roster decision before Preseason Week 2 matchup against Jaguars

Saints coach Kellen Moore makes key roster decision before Preseason Week 2 matchup against Jaguars originally appeared on The Sporting News The New Orleans Saints are officially handing the reins to rookie quarterback Tyler Shough, who will start Sunday's preseason matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Head coach Kellen Moore confirmed the decision, according to Adam Schefter via his X account. In his preseason debut, Shough threw for 165 yards and a touchdown, bouncing back from a pick-six with a 54-yard strike that showcased his ability to respond under pressure. That outing added fuel to the conversation about whether he could rise quickly in the Saints' quarterback competition. With Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener also competing for playing time, this game gives Shough a prime opportunity to prove he can command the offense against an aggressive Jacksonville defense. As Hayden Reel of Canal Street Chronicles notes, the Saints' passing attack has room to rebound, and Shough will be at the center of that effort. Moore has made it clear that all three quarterbacks will continue to see action this preseason, but starting against Jacksonville puts the spotlight firmly on Shough. A strong performance could tilt momentum in his favor as the Saints evaluate who gives them the best chance to win heading into the regular season.
