Phil Giles ‘wouldn't be massively surprised' if Bryan Mbeumo stays at Brentford

The Cameroon winger, 25, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, who submitted an improved bid in the region of £60million around a week ago.
Giles, speaking on Monday afternoon at the unveiling of new head coach Keith Andrews, said the London club would be 'open' to a deal which was 'right for us financially', but insisted Mbeumo staying put was 'not off the table'.
'In terms of expectations, I don't actually know where that will end up,' Giles said.
'I think we made our point clear that Bryan had such a great season and if he earned a massive move now, which is right for us financially, then we would be open for that, but if he's here next season I wouldn't be massively surprised, it would be welcomed, we would be delighted.
'It would save me a massive headache, frankly, and that's not off the table, so let's see how it goes.'
Brentford scored a club-record 66 Premier League goals last season en route to an impressive 10th-place finish, with Mbeumo's 20-goal haul a big factor.
'With Bryan, he had 20 Premier League goals last season so we expected lots of interest and there has been lots of interest,' Giles added.
'He has his own views for the next part of his career and where he will end up, which is fair, because it's his career and those conversations have been going on for the last couple of weeks.'
If Mbeumo does leave, he would add to a growing list of summer departures from Brentford, with manager Thomas Frank joining Tottenham, goalkeeper Mark Flekken heading to Bayer Leverkusen and midfielder Christian Norgaard 'more likely than not', in Giles' words, to leave.

I like duels and I think that's pretty English. I think as a centre-back, I'm dangerous in front of the goal, I like set pieces, offensive set pieces. So that's what I think my game is, I would say."I'm really pleased to be here, it's an amazing club."The Premier League was always my dream, and then to play for such a big club in England and in Europe, it's a dream come true."I think the Premier League for me is the biggest league in the world. Man Utd join Saudi Pro League outfit 'in the race' for old transfer target

Manchester United have been linked with PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz before and it has now been claimed that the Red Devils are once again courting the Spaniard's signature Manchester United are said to have rekindled their interest in Fabian Ruiz after originally trying to sign the Paris Saint-Germain star back in the summer of 2022. The Spain international, 29, became the subject of interest from United as they looked to revamp their engine room after failing to lure Frenkie de Jong to Old Trafford. Ruiz ended up joining PSG from Napoli, though, instead of moving to Manchester. ‌ The Red Devils ended up signing Casemiro from Real Madrid and shelved interest in De Jong, who is still on the books at Barcelona. ‌ But a fresh report from France claims that Ruiz is back on United's radar as they seek to reshape a beleaguered squad which were responsible for the club's worst ever Premier League finish last season. Footmercato claim that Al-Nassr from the Saudi Pro League are also keen on the idea of signing Ruiz, who is contracted until 2027. Unfortunately for United and Ruiz's other suitors, the report goes on to add that PSG - and in particular Luis Enrique - value the midfield maestro as a key figure in the team that emphatically won the Champions League last month. They would prefer for 'continuity' in the engine room with Ruiz striking up a tidy understanding with Joao Neves and Vitinha. United are keen to add quality signings in their bid to rebuild under Ruben Amorim and have already captured Matheus Cunha from Wolves, with Brentford 's Bryan Mbeumo expected to follow him through the door. ‌ Join the debate! Would Ruiz be a good signing for Man Utd? Let us know here Further signings are expected, though outgoings will be required if Amorim is to have the flexibility he desires in the transfer market after United failed to qualify for the Champions League last term. It's said United are keen on the experience Ruiz would bring to Amorim's team. He has won three consecutive French titles since swapping Naples for Paris and has 39 international caps to his name for Spain, whom he won Euro 2024 with. United have also been linked with a new goalkeeper after another mixed season for Andre Onana. It has since been reported, though, that the Cameroon star is planning to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford.

Rangers sign Joe Rothwell from Bournemouth

The 30-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan at Leeds from the Cherries, helping the Elland Road club – whose chairman Paraag Marathe is now also Rangers vice-chairman – to promotion to the Premier League. He also spent six months on loan at Southampton the previous season in the Championship under new Gers boss Russell Martin. Rothwell, who played up to Under-20 level with England, came through the ranks at Manchester United before moving to Oxford in 2016, following loan spells at Blackpool and Barnsley. He then spent four years with Blackburn Rovers from 2018 to 2022 before signing for Bournemouth, which preceded winning promotion with both Southampton and Leeds in back-to-back loan spells. Martin has already signed right-back Max Aarons on loan from Bournemouth while midfielder Lyall Cameron had signed a pre-contract from Dundee in January.
