Three suspects arrested for allegedly hijacking a courier truck

Three suspects, aged 25, 32 and 42, were arrested for hijacking a courier truck earlier in June 2025. The truck was transporting clothing from East London to Queenstown when it was hijacked on the N6 highway. The suspects were wearing reflective jackets when they signalled the driver and his colleague to stop the truck. When the driver refused to stop, two suspects produced firearms to scare him into stopping the truck, which he eventually did. The suspects then entered the truck and instructed the driver to drive to Mpongo Park. 'Upon arrival, the victims observed a brown Toyota Corolla, a white Toyota seven-seater, and a red Honda seven-seater.' 'The suspects transferred the cargo of clothing to these vehicles before fleeing the scene,' read the police statement. A multi-unit operation, including Organised Crime and Flying Squad, recovered a brown Toyota Corolla along with goods at a residence in NU10, Mdantsane. In the second residence, at NU8 in the same area, additional stolen items were recovered. At the third residence, a suspect was arrested and further stolen goods were recovered alongside a gold Honda vehicle. Recovered items included new sneakers, ladies' handbags, clothing, and two vehicles. The suspects are facing charges of truck hijacking, armed robbery, and kidnapping. The suspects will appear before the East London Magistrate's Court in due course. A 51-year-old male suspect was arrested for cultivating dagga in Kidds Beach, Eastern Cape. According to a police statement, officers discovered a significant illegal dagga plantation at a residence in Sunny South. Initial investigations reveal that the suspect cultivated the dagga and harvested it for market distribution. The suspect said that he sold the dagga to support his family. Approximately 7.6 kg of dagga was confiscated with an estimated value of R22 800. The suspect is scheduled to appear before the East London Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, 17 June 2025.
