
Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi awarded LEED Gold certificate for Energy Design and Sustainable Buildings at its Plant Genetic Resources Centre
ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has been awarded the LEED Gold certificate for sustainable buildings by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), the world's most widely used green building rating system. This recognition highlights EAD's efforts in implementing energy efficiency systems, environmental stewardship and its commitment to sustainability in the management of the Plant Genetic Resources Centre building in Al Ain.The agency received this award by meeting all the necessary certification criteria, including a 75.1 per cent reduction in energy consumption, a 53.49 per cent decrease in water usage and a 75.1 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The Plant Genetic Resources Centre building relies on renewable energy by generating 581,077 kilowatt-hours annually through on-site photovoltaic solar panels.Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary General of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, said: 'Winning the LEED Gold certificate for the management of the Plant Genetic Resources Centre building in Al Ain is a pivotal achievement that affirms Abu Dhabi's unwavering commitment to spearhead global environmental leadership. The certificate further reinforces the role of the Plant Genetic Resources Centre, established by the agency in Al Ain, to conserve the seeds and tissues of all native wild plants and agriculturally significant local species in the UAE. It also reflects the EAD's dedication to integrating sustainability efforts to achieve energy efficiency and optimal resource management – underscoring the agency's commitment across all its facilities to building a more sustainable future.

NMDC Energy H1 net profit rises 16% to $158.85mln
ABU DHABI - NMDC Energy today announced strong financial results for the first half of 2025, with sustained growth demonstrating the company's strength and disciplined execution. In H1 2025, NMDC Energy delivered a 41 percent year-on-year surge in revenue to AED8.2 billion and a 16 percent rise in net profit to AED583 million compared to 2024. With remarkable award wins in the first half of 2025 totalling AED13.9 billion, and a backlog that stood at AED49.9 billion by the end of June 2025, NMDC Energy continues to pursue opportunities that align market demand with its long-term strategy, whereby it continues to build its pipeline of projects, which reached AED66 billion by the end of the second quarter. In Q2 2025, revenue grew 21 percent year-on-year to AED4.4 billion and a net profit of 12 percent to AED366 million, supported by sustained momentum across core EPC and industrial operations. NMDC Energy's 400,000 sqm fabrication yard in Ras Al Khair, Saudi Arabia, became fully operational during the quarter.
