Malaika Arora's favourite balloon facial exercise promises radiant skin: ‘Try this and you won't need a highlighter'

Indian Express10 hours ago

Actor and dancer Malaika Arora's sculpted jaw and sharp, angular cheekbones are not just a product of spectacular genes. She spends a significant amount of time dedicated to face yoga and sculpting to carve out her facial features. In a recent interview, her face yoga specialist Vibhuti Arora shared some insights into her routine.
'Malaika, she loves the balloon exercise. It's actually popularised as the balloon pose on YouTube, but in my book, it is the slapping piano exercise. This is a brilliant exercise for collagen boosting, face lifting, plumpening and pre-makeup, instead of ice facial — try this and you will get a nice, natural flush and you won't need a highlighter. You will radiate, you will glow inside out,' she explained.
Dr Vijay Singhal, Senior Consultant, Dermatology, Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute, Delhi explained that the balloon-face exercise is a part of face yoga that involves filling your cheeks with air and holding that puffed expression—similar to a balloon. 'While it might look simple or even silly, this movement engages and tones key facial muscles, especially around the cheeks, lips, and jawline,' he said.
Dr Singhal shared that by holding the air in your mouth for a few seconds, you're creating resistance for the facial muscles, which helps strengthen and firm them over time. This can aid in reducing puffiness, lifting sagging skin, and enhancing the natural contours of your face. It also improves blood circulation, delivering more oxygen to the skin and giving you a natural glow.
According to the expert, incorporating balloon-face and other face yoga techniques into your daily routine can be a game-changer. 'Face yoga is a natural, non-invasive way to maintain youthful skin and support facial muscle health. It also relieves tension held in the jaw and facial area, especially helpful if you grind your teeth or clench your jaw during stress,' he revealed, adding that for those seeking an alternative to cosmetic procedures, face yoga offers visible benefits with zero cost and no side effects—just a few minutes a day of mindful facial movement.
Further elaborating on the benefits of face yoga, he added that it helps in breaking the patterns of movements through which we hold tension, like furrowing the brows, tightening the shoulders, tightening the jaw, etc. by stimulating the lymphatic system, muscles as well as the skin, relaxing it of its tension-holding patterns in the process.
'The technique uses exercises and massages targeting the face, neck, and shoulders which has been found to result in a better appearance of the face due to strengthened facial muscles. Face yoga, along with reducing stress, eating well, and exercising regularly promises long-term effects in making your face look younger and tighter,' he said.
Dr Singhal said that you can use face yoga techniques to target specific concerns like forehead lines, frown lines, and crow's feet. 'The acupressure techniques also used in face yoga can help in reducing stress, preventing headaches, releasing sinuses, and even improving the quality of your sleep,' he added.

Balaji Telefilms expects stronger FY26 as digital and film units grow

Balaji Telefilms, backed by actor Jeetendra Kapoor and his family, expects the financial year 2025–26 (FY26) to be better than FY25 in terms of business and profitability. From FY27, the company anticipates reaping the benefits of its scaled movie business, digital segment growth, and realisation of its digital content order book, alongside a steady television business. Sanjay Diwedi, group chief executive officer and chief financial officer, Balaji Telefilms, said the growth expectation in FY26 is ₹250 crore for the TV segment, over ₹100 crore for the motion picture segment, and around ₹50–55 crore for the digital segment. Additionally, the B2B (business-to-business) part of the digital segment, which has an order book of over ₹350 crore, will contribute depending on its release schedule over the next two financial years. Given the growing prominence of the digital segment due to OTT (over-the-top) platforms, Diwedi noted that the TV segment will continue to grow from ₹250 crore to ₹300 crore. However, the company's motion pictures and digital segments are expected to outgrow television soon. He explained that the TV business was under stress in the last six months of FY25, and this weakness is expected to continue in the April–June quarter of FY26, due to several long-running shows ending or nearing their end during this period. Currently, Balaji Telefilms has two shows on air, and Diwedi expects this segment to return to normal from the July–September quarter onwards. He pointed out that some improvement will be seen in the numbers from the April–June quarter of FY26. Till the quarter ended December, all six of its shows were on air. In the first nine months of FY25, revenue from the TV business stood at ₹194.2 crore, according to its earnings release. The company has not released the Q4FY25 results yet due to the merger of its subsidiaries, ALT Digital Media Entertainment and Marinating Films, with Balaji Telefilms. 'It is a cyclical phase. This largely happens in the TV business every four to five years, as it takes time to relaunch shows or return to the normal six shows on air,' Diwedi noted. To strengthen its digital segment, the company recently entered a long-term creative collaboration with Netflix for a range of projects across different storytelling formats. Separately, Balaji Telefilms is looking to diversify its digital business unit in the coming years. This follows the ban on several Pakistani dramas in India, which originally featured over 50 episodes per show on YouTube. Nitin Burman, chief revenue officer, Balaji Telefilms, said the company has started producing original and long-format shows on YouTube, taking advantage of the void left by the removal of Pakistani dramas. Its show Pyaar Kii Raahein, which has 70 episodes, garnered over 200 million views on the platform. 'The company is taking its YouTube business ahead with a clear focus on maximising returns,' Burman said. Its OTT streaming platform, ALTT, had faced losses ranging from ₹145 crore to ₹125 crore in earlier years. Now, the platform has nearly eliminated those losses. Diwedi added that the digital segment has minimal cash burn, with the goal of becoming cash-positive and scaling gradually in the coming years. However, he noted that it is still early—by about six months—for the company to decide which particular digital business segment to push further. Through its motion pictures segment, the company also plans to expand its existing IPs (intellectual property) with films such as Laila Manju (which performed better at the box office during its re-release), Ragini MMS, and Shootout at Wadala, among others.

Kim Soo-hyun's fans protest str's asset seizure; threaten to BOYCOTT brand over ‘unjust' legal action

Fans of South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun have launched a fierce protest against a medical brand that recently secured a court-ordered provisional seizure of the star's property, calling the move unethical and unjust. The controversy has sparked outrage among supporters, who are now threatening to boycott the brand's products if the matter is not resolved transparently. On June 11, Kim's Korean and international fan unions issued a joint statement condemning Company A, which filed for a ₩3 billion (approximately $2.16 million) asset seizure . The Seoul Eastern District Court had approved the provisional seizure of one of Kim Soo-hyun's luxury apartments at Galleria Foret in Seoul's Seongdong District. In their statement, the fan union accused the company of exploiting the actor's image for profit before turning on him following his alleged connection to a past controversy involving the late actress Kim Sae-ron . 'It is extremely unreasonable and irrational for a brand that once benefited financially from Kim Soo-hyun's image to file for asset seizure against him, especially when he is the innocent party,' the group said. Adding to the outrage, fans claimed that Kim's personal information was exposed during the legal proceedings. 'This is a clear case of secondary harm against a victim of false allegations, as well as a serious invasion of privacy,' they noted. The heart of the dispute appears to be an endorsement deal terminated by the brand, which is now demanding financial compensation based on reputational damage allegedly caused by speculative online content. The fan union rejected these claims, calling for accountability to be placed on those spreading false information—not the actor himself. 'As consumers who became aware of your brand through Kim Soo-hyun, we hope this situation does not escalate into a boycott of all your products.' On June 12, Kim Soo-hyun's legal team, LKB & Partners, confirmed the court's approval of the provisional seizure but strongly denied any wrongdoing by the actor. They also refuted allegations made by the controversial YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute, which played a role in fueling the controversy. 'It is clear that Kim Soo-hyun is a victim of a crime, and it is deeply regrettable that he is now facing secondary harm,' the law firm stated.
