Cyberjaya student's murder: Teen pair charged in court
M. Sri Darvien, 19, an odd job worker, was charged with the murder of Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
His co-accused, student D. Thineswary, also 19, was charged with abetting Darvien in committing the murder, under Section 109 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 302.
Clad in a white T-shirt, Darvien stood in the dock as the charge was read before magistrate Khairatul Animahtul Abd Jalani. Thineswary, dressed in black, also appeared separately before the court.
Both accused indicated they understood the respective charges. No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge sheet, Darvien is alleged to have committed the offence between 9.11pm and 11.31pm on June 23 at Block A, Mutiara Ville Cyberjaya, Persiaran Multimedia in Cyberjaya.
Thineswary is alleged to have committed the abetment offence at 12.30pm on the same day and location.
The court did not grant bail on both accused and set Sept 11 for mention.

According to social media postings, the man is alleged to have domestic violence tendencies and had previously illegally confined his girlfriend at home. This time, the girlfriend managed to escape and went to school for classes, which is believed to have angered him, leading him to chase her onto the campus to harm her. A video circulating online shows what appears to be a couple having a dispute, with the boyfriend losing emotional control and using a fruit knife to slash his girlfriend's neck, causing her to bleed profusely and struggle on the ground. The woman bled heavily after being slashed, lying on the ground with a pale complexion. Video Shows Continued Assault According to the video, after the incident, the man allegedly continued to tightly restrain his girlfriend tightly, pulling her hair and refusing to let go. Nearby witnesses and police officers quickly stepped forward to stop the man; the woman appeared pale and occasionally let out painful moans. The video shows witnesses immediately using a towel to press against the woman's slashed neck after the incident; police officers took the man away. This incident allegedly occurred on Monday afternoon (14 July) at a well-known private university in Subang Jaya; the couple involved in the conflict are reportedly both Chinese nationals. Police Weigh In Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan bin Wan Mamat, Subang Jaya District Police Chief, said officers received a police report at approximately 6:30 PM on that day regarding a foreign national man who had injured his female companion, also a foreign national, at a private university in Subang Jaya using a knife. The 20-year-old victim sustained lacerations to the left side of her neck and was taken to University Malaya Medical Centre's emergency department, where she was placed in the red zone for further treatment. Police confirmed the victim is in stable condition. The 21-year-old suspect, described as the victim's former boyfriend, was arrested immediately following the incident. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. If convicted, the offence carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to 10 years, a fine, or whipping, or any combination of these punishments. Investment firm directors jailed 20 days for failing to comply with Mareva injunction
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court today jailed two directors of an investment firm 20 days each after finding them guilty of contempt of court for failing to comply with a Mareva injunction. Judicial Commissioner Yusrin Faidz Yusoff sentenced Syed Mahadzir Fadaak Syed Jamil Fadaak and his wife, Erna Elliyana Rosli, for not complying with the injunctions issued on Sept 5 and Nov 22 last year. A Mareva injunction is an order to freeze assets and prevent the transfer of assets before a judgment is enforced. The couple apologised to the court for failing to comply with the Mareva injunction. "We had no intention of insulting the court. We did not understand what was demanded of us," said Syed Mahadzir. He said there was an ongoing audit and they only obtained a draft report as they were unable to pay the audit firm after their bank accounts were frozen. The Mareva injunction was issued amid a civil suit on breach of contract. It came after the couple's firm, Alpha Capital (M) Bhd, failed to pay monthly dividend returns to 64 investors. The 64 investors sued Alpha Capital for breach of contract involving RM19,831.440.50 of monthly dividend returns. Yusrin suspended the jail term for two months to give the couple time to fully comply with the Mareva injunction issued in September last year. The judge fined the couple RM10,000 each, which must be settled within seven days, in default seven days' jail. In his ruling, Yusrin said he was not persuaded that the couple should only be fined, given the circumstances of the case. "The great concealment of the material information, the failure to comply over an extended period and the strategic nature of the non-disclosure demands a stern response," he said. Lawyers Sachpreetraj Singh and Simran Kaur acted for the 64 investors, while Ganesh Magenthiran appeared for the couple.

Two Company Directors Jailed 20 Days For Defying Mareva Injunction
KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) -- The High Court today sentenced two directors of an investment firm to 20 days in jail for contempt of court after they were found guilty of failing to comply with a Mareva injunction issued in a civil suit involving breach of contract. Judicial Commissioner Yusrin Faidz Yusoff handed down the sentence against the directors of Alpha Capital (M) Bhd, Syed Mahadzir Fadaak Syed Jamil Fadaak, and his wife, Erna Elliyana Rosli, for defying the court orders dated Sept 5 and Nov 22 last year. However, Yusrin allowed a stay of the execution of the jail sentence for two months from today, to give time for the couple to fully comply with the Mareva order issued on Sept 5, 2024. "In the totality of the circumstances, the court is not persuaded that the fine would be sufficient for a just sanction. "The great concealment of the material information, the failure to comply over an extended period and the strategic nature of the non-disclosure demand a stern response," said Yusrin in delivering his decision. In addition to the jail sentence, the court also ordered the couple to pay a fine of RM10,000 each within seven days, failing which they would face an additional seven days in prison. Last month, the court found Syed Mahadzir Fadaak and Erna Elliyana guilty of contempt for failure to adhere to the Mareva injunction filed by their investors in September last year. Today's decision stemmed from an interlocutory application in a civil suit filed by the 64 investors against Alpha Capital for failing to pay monthly dividend returns, involving a collective sum of RM19,831,440.50. A Mareva injunction is a temporary order preventing the defendant from disposing of assets until a decision is made in the case between the plaintiff and defendant.
