Young coders in UAE turn AI, data into innovations that matter
SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)In today's digital era, coding and developing tech solutions are among the 'coolest' pursuits for the youth. But for four young coders studying at 42 Abu Dhabi (42AD), being in tech goes beyond trends: it's about transforming dreams into reality, turning data and code into game-changing innovations, empowering others, and dedicating themselves to creating solutions that would make an impact in the UAE and beyond.
On International Youth Day, observed every year on August 12, these young talents spoke to Aletihad about their passion, aspirations — and a relentless drive to harness the best of technology for the common good. Asma Alawlaqi, an Emirati student at 42AD and Head of R&D at CloudLynq AI, has always believed tech is a powerful tool for change.
'Through my work at CloudLynq, I use coding as a tool to solve real problems, empower my community, and contribute to the UAE's vision for innovation,' she told Aletihad . Thriving in a largely male-dominated industry, Alawlaqi has never felt discouraged as a young woman in tech; she is certain her contributions count.'As an Emirati girl in the coding field, I believe we have the creativity and energy to shape the world we want to live in … I also hope my journey inspires other Emirati women to step into technology — knowing that their ideas and skills can make a global impact,' she said.Nouf Al Shibli, an information security specialist and a student at 42 Abu Dhabi, is another young Emirati woman who is determined to do her part in shaping the UAE's future in technology.'By using our skills to create solutions that benefit our community and lead projects that inspire others, we show the world that Emirati women can be at the heart of technology and innovation,' she said.To women in the tech industry, Al Shibli said: 'Believe in yourself and keep learning. Every step you take builds your skills, your confidence, and your ability to create something amazing.'
Finding Inspiration For Zubaydullo Abdirakhmonov, a software engineer, learning coding at 42AD has become a gateway to opportunities.'I was elected president of the Startup Club, which connected me to Abu Dhabi's wider tech and entrepreneurship community,' he said.'42 Abu Dhabi gave me the freedom to learn by building projects, working with diverse peers, and exploring AI creatively. It has helped me grow as a problem-solver, leader, and innovator.'Abdirakhmonov hopes to build AI-driven startups that matter. 'I want to create startups that solve real-world problems, especially through AI. I see myself contributing to the UAE's vision by building solutions that inspire and benefit the community.'Sharing a piece of advice to the youth: 'Be curious, stay consistent, and do not be afraid to fail. Every mistake is a step toward growth, and the UAE offers many opportunities to turn ideas into reality.'Software developer Alfakih Mohamed Abdellahi has always dreamed of launching his own venture, and it was when he came to Abu Dhabi that he found deep motivation to pursue that ambition.Inspired by the UAE capital's strong focus on technology and entrepreneurship, he joined 42AD to develop the skills he needed to bring his ideas to life.'42 Abu Dhabi helped me a lot as it allowed me to discuss problems and share ideas with others. I also met people better than me, which pushed me to improve my skills.'Patience and resilience have been key to his journey, Abdellahi said.'I do not consider myself successful yet because I have bigger goals to reach. Among the main challenges I had to overcome were learning to be patient, not rushing to see results, and accepting failure as part of the process.'Abdellahi aspires to create homegrown tech solutions with a global impact.
'I aim to be one of the people who help the UAE become No. 1 in AI and innovation. My goal is to build products that inspire others and support the UAE's leadership in technology and innovation worldwide.'

UAE, Finland sign MoU to enhance weather and polar research
Advancing polar research through the Emirates Polar Programme The agreement establishes a framework for joint scientific projects, focusing especially on polar research in alignment with the UAE's Emirates Polar Programme. This programme aims to establish dedicated research labs in both the Arctic and Antarctica, positioning the UAE as a key contributor to global polar studies. Through this MoU, both nations aim to foster the exchange of expertise and launch collaborative initiatives in areas of mutual scientific interest. Strengthening the UAE's scientific role Dr Al Mandous stated that the MoU strengthens the UAE's research capabilities in meteorology and climate sciences. He emphasised the UAE's commitment to international cooperation guided by mutual benefit, noting that this partnership will advance understanding of climate change and support the development of innovative environmental solutions. The agreement also offers expanded opportunities for scientists from both countries to collaborate and conduct joint research. Integrating space weather services and AI capabilities A significant element of the MoU includes the integration of FMI's advanced space weather services into joint research efforts. This is expected to enhance AI-driven data analysis and operational forecasting capabilities, with practical applications across sectors such as agriculture, aviation, maritime navigation, and disaster risk management. Establishing joint infrastructure and research exchange During the visit, the Emirati delegation held a series of technical meetings with Finnish counterparts to explore the development of joint infrastructure and researcher exchange programmes. These discussions also addressed the setup of Emirates Research Labs in polar regions and strategies for conducting long-term field research to assess the impact of climate change on ecosystems and societies. Addressing global meteorological reform and funding In addition, Dr Al Mandous took the opportunity to highlight the importance of reforming operational frameworks within the World Meteorological Organization to better meet global needs. He stressed the urgency of ensuring sustainable funding for UN meteorological initiatives, especially amid current financial challenges that could hinder essential programmes. Finnish perspective on the partnership Professor Taalas welcomed the partnership, praising the UAE's growing leadership in scientific research related to weather and climate. He noted that the agreement provides a strong foundation for joint projects in polar and space weather research, ultimately strengthening global forecasting capabilities and climate resilience. A shared commitment to scientific innovation and sustainability This MoU not only reinforces the long-standing ties between the UAE and Finland but also reflects a shared commitment to sustainability, scientific innovation, and collaborative efforts to address global environmental challenges.

ADNIC posts Dh261.2 million profit before tax in H1 2025
12 Aug 2025 20:07 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD) Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company (ADNIC) reported a net profit before tax of Dh261.2 million in the first half of 2025, reflecting an increase of 16.5% compared to the same period in company also recorded gross written premiums of Dh5.54 billion, marking a 25.7% year-on-year insurer maintained a combined ratio of 92.9%, underscoring the strength of its underwriting strategy and operational insurance revenue for the period reached Dh4 billion, up from Dh3.3 billion in the first half of last year, while net insurance service result climbed 26.5% to Dh258.5 income stood at Dh142.4 million, a 19.5% increase over the prior year. Profit after tax came in at Dh235.3 of June 30, 2025, total assets stood at Dh11 billion, with total shareholders' equity at Dh3.5 Mohamed Bin Saif Al-Nahyan, Chairman of ADNIC, said: 'ADNIC's strong performance in the first half of 2025 demonstrates the resilience of our business model and the effectiveness of our long-term strategy.
