Fantasy Baseball 2-Start Pitcher Rankings: Solid options to target, including ones with long-term upside
This may be the best week for two-start pitchers to this point in the 2025 fantasy baseball season. There are three men atop the list who have plenty of long-term potential. And that trio is followed by several starters who have at least one appealing matchup. Things are less exciting on the hitting side, as 28 teams have six games this week, which makes for a balanced schedule across the league.
[Smarter waivers, better trades, optimized lineups — Yahoo Fantasy Plus unlocks it all]
Weathers has looked great in two starts since returning from a season-opening IL stint, allowing two runs over 10 innings and posting a 9:1 K:BB ratio. Even more impressive, both outings came against the Cubs, who lead MLB in runs scored. There is a real chance that the left-hander will be rostered in most leagues by the middle of June, which makes him an exciting streamer for a week with midlevel matchups.
Birdsong fared well in his first start since transitioning from the bullpen, allowing five hits and one unearned run across five innings. Even more impressive, the right-hander who sometimes has control issues did not issue a walk. Birdsong's strikeout skills give him plenty of upside, and he has more long-term potential than most of the pitchers on this list.
Normally a high-strikeout hurler, Bradley has emerged from a month-long dip in his strikeout rate by collecting 18 whiffs across his past three starts. Now that the strikeouts are back, the right-hander can be considered in most leagues for a two-start week with average matchups. He could wind up remaining on rosters for the long haul.
Taillon sometimes surrenders long balls, but his struggles reached an extreme level when he allowed eight homers across his past three starts. To make matters worse, the homers can't be blamed on park effects and two of the starts came against a below average Marlins lineup. I would normally recommend benching the veteran until he gets back on track, but his home start against the 9-44 Rockies is so appealing that I would roll him out in 12-team leagues.
By mostly keeping the ball in the yard (5 HR), Vasquez has managed to minimize the damage (3.49 ERA) that comes with an inability to dominate the strike zone (27:26 K:BB ratio) or keep the bases clean (1.43 WHIP). I would normally leave a pitcher with this skill set off the list, but his matchups are so favorable — the Marlins rank 21st in runs scored and the Pirates place 30th — that I need to recommend him as a high-floor play in 12-team leagues.
Martinez is coming off two of his best starts of the season (13 IP, 1 ER), albeit against two of the weakest offenses in baseball (CWS, PIT). Still, the right-hander deserves credit for doing two things in the past month that lead to success, as he has allowed two walks in his past four starts and hasn't surrendered a homer since April 16. He would rank high on this list if not for a scary matchup against a potent Cubs lineup.
Fedde has plenty of similarities to Vasquez, having danced around a poor K:BB ratio (34:25) to post respectable fantasy numbers (3.77 ERA, 1.27 WHIP). And similar to Vasquez, Fedde finds himself on this list solely because he's scheduled to face two teams that are among the bottom-10 in runs scored.
Since allowing nine runs in his 2025 debut, Paddack has posted a 2.59 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP across nine starts. He has benefited from a .245 BABIP over that nine-start stretch, but his 33:15 K:BB in those games is good enough to get him into 12-team lineups for a two-start week with reasonable matchups.
Despite having shown modest dominance over the strike zone (42:21 K:BB ratio in 55.2 innings), Heaney has been a fantasy asset who has logged a 2.91 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Still, I hesitate to use him this week, as the D-backs are a tough matchup (5th in baseball in runs scored), and the Padres were doing well offensively prior to a mid-May slump. Backed by baseball's worst offense, Heaney has limited upside.
The wheels are starting to come off for Sears, who outperformed his skill set for about six weeks before allowing 10 runs over nine innings in his past two starts. Going forward, managers should use the lefty's lifetime 4.32 ERA and 1.24 WHIP as a guideline for expectations, which puts him squarely in the streamer category. With average matchups this week, Sears is a fringe option in 12-team leagues.
Williams has had more success since the calendar flipped to May, producing two wins, a 2.25 ERA and 29 punchouts in four starts. He still isn't a finished product, as he walked 12 batters in those four outings, but at least there are signs that he could be a viable fantasy option in the coming weeks. His matchups this week are difficult — the Dodgers rank third in runs scored and the Angels are the 6th highest scoring offense in May — which keeps him down on this list.
Lorenzen has been the definition of a streamer, logging respectable ratios (3.77 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) and a modest 7.9 K/9 rate. His ceiling is low for two starts against offenses that rank among the top half of the league in runs scored, but he has enough of a floor to be considered in leagues that are deeper than 12 teams.
In order, here are the best streamers for the week, with their start date and Yahoo roster rate in brackets.
Cade Horton vs. COL (Tuesday, 20)
Dean Kremer vs. CWS (Saturday, 6)
Michael Wacha vs. DET (Friday, 48)
Landen Roupp @DET (Wednesday, 17)
Dustin May @CLE (Tuesday, 39)
José Soriano @CLE (Friday, 27)
Clarke Schmidt @LAA (Wednesday, 49)
Jackson Jobe vs. SF (Wednesday, 42)
Luis L. Ortiz vs. LAA (Friday, 17)
Logan Evans vs. WSH (Tuesday, 7)
Shane Smith @NYM (Tuesday, 26)
Tomoyuki Sugano vs. STL (Tuesday, 35)
Gunnar Hoglund @TOR (Saturday, 9)
Hunter Dobbins @ATL (Saturday, 8)
Noah Cameron vs. CIN (Wednesday, 28)
Jacob Lopez @TOR (Thursday, 0)
Cubs vs. Rockies: Sure, this series won't take place at offense-inducing Coors Field, but a Rockies pitching staff that ranks last in baseball with a 5.73 ERA will be no match for the league's highest scoring team. Most Cubs are widely rostered, but those in 10-team leagues should make sure that Michael Busch, Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner are in their lineups. And in 12-team leagues, Matt Shaw (52%) is a good option from the waiver wire.
Rays vs. Twins, @Astros: Although there are some formidable starters on the docket, the Rays should provide fantasy managers with a few solid options by virtue of being the only team that is facing four right-handed starters over the next four days. Left-handed hitters Jonathan Aranda (48%), Brandon Lowe (54%), Chandler Simpson (30%) and Kameron Misner (2%) are the men to add.

USWNT match-worn jerseys to be auctioned off while they're being worn
In April, Trinity Rodman struck early for the U.S. Women's National Team against Brazil, with her first goal for the team since the 2024 Olympics. She received the ball from forward Alyssa Thompson and finished with a shot into the lower right corner of the net. It was her 11th goal for the national team. Advertisement While the crowd's cheers filled SoFi Stadium, they did not see what happened in the locker room at halftime. Rodman's sweat-soaked, mud-streaked jersey was carefully collected by the team's equipment manager and placed in a sealed container bound for a warehouse in Amsterdam with eight other jerseys. These belonged to her teammates: Lindsey Heaps, Catarina Macario, Tara McKeown, Emily Fox, Allyson Sentnor, Phallon Tullis-Joyce, Crystal Dunn and Sam Coffey. Almost three months later, on Saturday, the jersey was sold for $1,833 on an online marketplace that auctions signed match-worn shirts from around the world. The Dutch company collaborates with over 300 soccer clubs and federations across 35 countries, and it has just signed a deal with both U.S. national teams. During the USWNT's friendly against China in Minnesota on Saturday, the platform will launch its first live auction tied to a match. Every jersey worn will be up for grabs. The deal with U.S. Soccer and the USWNT Players Association also covers player-worn kits from all international tournaments moving forward, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, and the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil. The idea of selling worn jerseys came to brothers and co-founders Bob and Tijmen Zonderwijk in 2016 while they were searching for a special gift for their father, a die-hard Ajax supporter, who was moving across the country for work. They wanted to get him a match-worn, signed jersey from one of his favorite players to hang in his new office. At the time, the only option was the annual club auction. After a year trying to convince Dutch clubs of their new idea, one finally gave in: FC Twente, where Dutch captain Jill Roord recently signed. 'We pitched the idea there, and the guy was quiet for the entire hour. After that, he said, 'Hey, it sounds like a win-win. When can we start?' So we were like, 's***, this is happening!'' Bob Zonderwijk told The Athletic. Advertisement In addition to a handful of USWNT and USMNT jerseys, the company's warehouse in Amsterdam is home to about 9,000 match-worn jerseys. Historically, the locker room and those sweat-soaked jerseys are sacred for players. Most keep them. Some toss them to fans. Others trade them with opponents. Either way, they're prized. The Zonderwijk brothers, lifelong soccer fans, knew better than to mess with that. 'We don't want to interfere with those traditions,' Tijmen Zonderwijk said. So they found a workaround: they collect only first-half jerseys. 'Players are free to do whatever they want with the second-half kits — keep them, swap them, toss them into the stands,' he explains. Which means the Rodman jersey that just sold is certified and guaranteed to be the very shirt she scored in. Operationally, every club is structured differently but MatchWornShirt's co-founders realized that to streamline their operations, they had to work with the most important person in the room: the kit managers. Last year, they hosted the first European conference of kit managers in Amsterdam, inviting 180 club representatives and 90 kit managers from partner clubs. 'The good thing about kitmen is that they are structured and reliable. They have their own protocols and once we become part of that protocol, we are all good,' Tijmen explained. This is especially crucial when it comes to getting the jerseys cleaned. Or rather, not cleaned. Instead of soap and water, the jerseys are treated with UVC light, a method that breaks down any lingering DNA to protect the player's health data but preserves the emotion: the grass stains, the wear and tear, even a trace of the smell. 'Eighty percent of the smell is reduced, but the smell is always there. It's also what makes it authentic,' Tijmen said. 'If it smelled like flowers, then people might also question the authenticity.' Advertisement Once the jerseys are cleaned, the process of authentication starts: using match footage, they check how patches are printed to match them to the player wearing them. Then they chip the shirts with NFC (Near Field Communication) chips that carry a unique ID to certify their authenticity. NFC, commonly used for non-contact payments, uses close-range wireless technology to communicate between devises. So far, the highest price paid for a women's match-worn shirt belongs to Sophia Smith's (now Wilson) No. 9 jersey that she wore while scoring in Portland Thorns' 2-0 NWSLchampionship win over Kansas City Current in 2022. It sold for $9,507 (£7,062). On the men's side, the most expensive jersey auctioned on the site was worn by Lionel Messi from his final season playing for Paris Saint-Germain. The winning bid was $58,000. MatchWornShirt did not share how the money gets split between them and the clubs, as the company doesn't disclose specific contract terms. But each partnership is tailored to reflect the commercial and charitable priorities of the teams and organizations involved. In the case of the U.S. Soccer, the deal includes both the federation and the respective players' associations. That means the proceeds are shared, and players get a cut. According to USWNT Players Association's agreement with the players, the PA receives payment from licenses like MatchWornShirt and players receive royalties. According to their financial statements from 2023, the organization paid its members $1,059,963 in royalties which amounts to 34.7 percent of the total revenue. The U.S. Women's National Team Players Association's (USWNTPA) Department of Labor report from 2024 shows that in 2023 former U.S. forward Alex Morgan took home the most in overall royalties ($167,593). Wilson ($74,232) and Rodman ($41,643) weren't far behind. 'With so many newcomers earning their first caps for the USWNT, these jerseys carry deep significance,' Annie Mitchell-Reid, the director of strategic partnerships and business at USWNTPA, told The Athletic. 'Think of sisters Alyssa and Gisele Thompson making their debuts side by side, and others who will wear the stars and stripes for the first time or even the last time. There are so many amazing moments to come that fans can have a tangible piece of.' But what happens if a jersey doesn't sell at one of MatchWorn's auctions? The Zonderwijks are not worried. 'We've never not sold a jersey,' Tijmen said with a grin.

Over 1,000 people support Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau's family fundraiser with 5K run in South Jersey
The Gaudreau family is getting closer to their goal to fund an adaptive playground the late Johnny and Matthew wanted to see built in their home state of New Jersey. Over 1,000 people, a sign of that progress, showed out on Saturday for the Gaudreau Family 5K Run, Walk and Family Fun Day at Washington Lake Park in Gloucester County. Since Johnny and Matthew were killed by a suspected drunk driver near their home in Salem County, their family, including parents Jane and Guy, have been working to honor their legacy. The runners came to support the Gaudreau family during this tough time and to help raise money for a cause thats close to the family's hearts. A little rain didn't stop anyone. "It was emotional. It was great. I mean, earlier we had a rainbow which was a pretty neat blessing for the day," one runner said. Guy Gaudreau was among the runners in the field. He put on a brave face for the camera but admitted the days are still really hard for their family. "I get halfway and i wanna quit, and the boys voices get in my head and say, 'Dad you're not a quitter,'" Guy said. "Because that's not how I taught them, not to be quitters, but it's really emotionally draining for my wife and I." The family organized the event along with members of the hockey community. Jane previously told CBS News Philadelphia that Johnny and Matthew volunteered at Archbishop Damiano School in Westville and that the school is important to their family — that's where the playground would be built once funded. ADS, where Jane has worked for over 40 years, is a nonprofit school serving over 135 students with disabilities. But the playground is crumbling and not accessible to many in its current state. The event also included an auction of NHL memorabilia including signed jerseys from players around the league. "It's pretty incredible how two young men that my wife and I raised are that incredibly popular throughout the world, right?" Guy Gaudreau said. The family fun extended long after the running events were over. The day should get the family closer to their $600,000 goal, after entering Saturday having raised $400,000. contributed to this report.
