According to Alok, his estranged wife is an administrative officer and he is doing a meagre government job and also suffering from some ailments. In this backdrop, he is entitled for maintenance from her.
Hearing the appeal on July 3, a division bench comprising Justice Arindam Sinha and Justice Yogendra Kumar Srivastava fixed August 8, 2025 for the next hearing. The court issued notice to Jyoti Maurya along with this order on the applications and appeal.
It is relevant to mention that SDM Jyoti Maurya has filed a petition for divorce at Family Court, Prayagraj, seeking divorce from her estranged husband, Alok Kumar Maurya, a safai karmachari.
Alok was appointed as Safai Karmachari in Panchayati Raj department in 2009. He got married to Jyoti Maurya in 2010. According to Alok's counsel Gaurav Tripathi, his client made all possible arrangements for the study of his wife at Prayagraj.
However, he alleged that after clearing the PCS examination, when she was appointed as SDM in 2015, her (Jyoti's) attitude changed towards him and his family members and now she wanted a divorce from him.
During the pendency of the divorce petition, Alok filed an application for maintenance under section 24 of the Hindu Marriages Act, which was rejected by the family court, Prayagraj, on January 4, 2025. Hence, he filed the present first appeal before the high court.

Rajasthan bans purchase of foreign goods by three govt departments
Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar announced a ban on purchasing goods manufactured abroad for officers and employees of the state's Education department, Panchayati Raj department, and Sanskrit Education department. Dilawar said that strict action will be taken against those defaulting on the ban, and the payment for such goods will be recovered from them. He claimed that this move will increase the use of indigenous goods and have a 'positive' impact on the economy. However, any item manufactured only abroad and 'essential' for the departments would be purchased after ministerial approval. The information was shared by the minister through a video from his social media account on Wednesday. He emphasised that the initiative aims to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India vision, while urging people to use indigenous products during Rakshabandhan. 'This holy festival will not only bring joy to your home but also make thousands of Indian families self-reliant,' he said. The minister alleged that many foreign countries, including China, earn profits by selling their products in India but use that money to 'help' Pakistan, naming Operation Sindoor as an example. Stating that Indians use foreign products daily, from shaving blades to toothpaste, Dilwar urged both government departments and the general public to participate in the campaign.

He informed that the aspirants should only follow the commission's website for official updates on the examination. Lamenting the delay, the candidates said that it took eight months for the PPSC to announce the prelim examination date. Amrinder Singh, an aspirant from Patiala said, 'The commission had announced it will hold an exam in April but then it postponed the same until September or October. Now, they have announced it will be held on October 26. This uncertainty over the exam date has affected our preparations.' Another aspirants said, 'Though the Punjab and Haryana high court has already made it clear that the PCS exam should be held every year, the last PCS exam was held in 2020. The government is seemingly turning a blind eye towards the court's observations. The PPSC is operating with the chairman and one member despite having a sanctioned strength of five. The lone member out of the five posts, Harmohan Kaur Sandhu, has to retire on August 19 after six-year tenure. Consequently, the PPSC chairman will be the only person in the commission. Charanjit Singh, secretary, PPSC, said the government was mindful of the matter, and new members would be appointed in the coming days.
