Queen's brutal take on Meghan Markle laid bare in explosive new memoirs

Extraordinary new insights have been revealed amid Queen Elizabeth II's thoughts on the "Megxit" saga, according to recently disclosed notes.
Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith had conducted interviews with Lady Elizabeth, who was known as the late Queen's confidante, and excerpts from these conversations have surfaced on Smith's blog, Extra Substack. One excerpt reveals: "She (Queen Elizabeth II) said she was not at all content."

Tensions also arose during the preparations for Harry and Meghan's 2018 nuptials. Reports suggest that the Duchess of Sussex kept details of her Givenchy wedding gown, which boasted an open bateau neckline and three-quarter length sleeves, from the Queen, reports the Mirror.
The monarch later deemed the dress "flamboyant" and inappropriate for a divorcee, given Meghan's previous marriage to Trevor Engelson.
Smith's notes include Lady Elizabeth's account: "Meghan wouldn't tell her (Queen Elizabeth II) about the wedding dress".

Lady Elizabeth, a renowned party planner, expressed uncertainty over the Queen's opinion of Meghan, stating: "The jury [was] out on whether she likes Meghan."
The narrative further explores the tension surrounding "Megxit," a term coined for Harry and Meghan's move to the US. The Royal author reveals that this situation deeply upset the Queen, as relayed by Lady Elizabeth.
Speaking to Ms Smith, Lady Elizabeth said: "I was shocked when the Queen told me this, how she was so saddened."

Until her passing in November 2020 at the age of 79, Lady Elizabeth often served as a confidante for the Queen. Her conversation with Ms Smith took place during her final months, shortly after the Duke and Duchess stepped back from their Royal duties to start a new life in America.
However, recent signs suggest that the couple might be considering a return to Royal life.
One such indication - the use of the titles HRH (His /Her Royal Highness) and the surname Sussex on passport applications for their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet - left Royal insiders "utterly bewildered" last month.
Richard Eden, a Royal correspondent for the Daily Mail, noted: "The suggestion gives the biggest hint yet that they're hoping to mend fences."
He added: "And it raises the question: Could the Sussexes, who chose to give up boring old public duties to seek their fortune in the US, stage a return to the royal fold via their children?".

Thursday Murder Club trailer offers first look at David Tennant's character
The adaptation, based on the book series by game show host and author Richard Osman, follows a crime-busting group of retirees, played by: Oscar-winning actress Dame Helen Mirren; former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan; Calendar Girls actress Celia Imrie; and Gandhi star, Sir Ben Kingsley. Director Chris Columbus confirmed in an interview with entertainment news website Collider in April that Doctor Who star Tennant, 54, would play Ian, the owner of Coopers Chase retirement village, where the four retirees live, with Olivier-winning actor Sir Jonathan, 78, starring as Stephen, the husband of Dame Helen's character, Elizabeth. The trailer, which follows the release of a teaser in May, features a clip of Tennant with slicked back hair and a Dolce and Gabbana T-shirt looking angry. In another clip his character says: 'I'm not worried about the cantankerous old farts.' Meanwhile, Sir Jonathan is shown wearing a brown cardigan, blue shirt and glasses in his role as Elizabeth's husband, who suffers from dementia in the book. The trailer also shows Elizabeth, Ibrahim (Sir Ben) and Ron (Brosnan), introducing themselves as the Thursday Murder Club to Imrie's character, Joyce, an ex-nurse who becomes the latest member of the group. Ackie, who plays a police constable, is seen investigating as is May's character who says: 'Police work is off-limits to anyone who isn't the police.' Elsewhere, Elizabeth receives a bouquet of flowers telling her to 'back off' and she is later seen bumping into a mysterious figure in the dead of night who tells her to not 'wake the dead.' Harry Potter director Columbus said: 'This is the finest cast I've worked with since Potter. 'They're just so incredibly well-prepared, and it's because they do everything. They do theatre, they do television, they do film, and they've developed those sorts of muscles.' Osman has written four Thursday Murder Club books with a fifth, The Impossible Fortune, set for publication in September. The TV star, 54, who became a household name on Pointless, left the hit TV quiz show in 2022 to concentrate on writing, having co-hosted alongside Alexander Armstrong since its debut in 2009. The Thursday Murder Club will land on Netflix on August 28.

More info Hearing that an Oasis fan died at Wembley sent a shiver down my spine. Lee Claydon was watching the Britpop band live on August 2, when the tragedy occurred. The 45-year-old, from Bournemouth, passed away after reportedly falling from the upper tier of Wembley stadium. While details are yet to be fully confirmed, his 75-year-old father Clive released a statement after the incident. He alleged: "People have said horrible things but it was just an accident. All I know is there was beer everywhere, it's slippery, he slipped apparently, we do not know the rest of it. There's questions about the barriers." These slippery conditions were also seen in parts of Wembley when I watched Liam and Noel Gallagher perform in London a few days earlier, on Wednesday, July 30. While the floor was dry when I arrived at Wembley just after 5pm, it felt like an ice rink by the end of the evening. This was partly due to the number of people going back and forth from the bar, spilling their pints as they went. Not only did I get beer poured down my back by one hyped-up fan, I also witnessed people slipping during the evening. When I went to the loo after the support act, I kept my hands firmly on the handrail to avoid skidding on the alcohol-covered floor. (Image: Getty Images) There were barriers and signs telling people not to stand up towards the front of the tier, but many were too excited to heed this warning as they danced through the setlist. The performance was absolutely incredible. But after the epic Champagne Supernova encore and fireworks, my partner and I decided to be cautious. The mass exit was pretty chaotic, so we decided to let everyone else leave in front of us. I shouted warnings at others due to how slippy it was – and some of my fellow concert-goers reported similar experiences. One Oasis fan took to Facebook on August 4 to share: "There was a girl at Wembley last night who slipped over and dislocated her knee in the concourse, my wife and I got her some help and she was taken away with her friend. "Somehow my wife spotted her afterwards and we found out she was still able to watch the gig after strapping up and use of a wheelchair which was great news, not sure if she'll see this but I hope you're OK and recovery isn't too bad!! Take care on the slippery floors people." Another replied, saying: "My friend fell as well due to slippery floor. Got straight back up and we sang our hearts out and danced the rest of the night." A third wrote: "I see a man fall on the steps going down to the floor, he was really injured, blood pouring from elbow and he looked concussed. Can't believe how many people I see slip on those steps." However, these were just a handful of experiences and others saw no issues at all. In a fan group, one commenter wrote: "18 years worth of events, most with 90,000 people attending, and never an incident like it. It's a tragic accident, and blaming it on the venue or security is ridiculous." On Reddit, another said: "I went Wednesday and literally saw no drunks or trouble anywhere (queuing for the tube for an hour too)." And a third wrote: "I was in the gods-ish. Everybody seemed relatively well behaved tonight to be honest." In response to these experiences, a Wembley Stadium spokesperson said: "Wembley Stadium operates to a very high health and safety standard, fully meeting legal requirements for the safety of spectators and staff, and is certified to and compliant with the ISO 45001 standard. "We are regularly inspected by certifying authorities both on an event day and throughout the year, and we regularly review and test our plans to ensure adherence to the conditions set within the stadium's general safety certificate. "We work very closely and collaboratively with all relevant event delivery stakeholders - including event owners, local authorities, the Sports Ground Safety Authority and the police - to deliver events to high standards of safety, security and service for everyone attending or working in the venue."

Freakier Friday sees Lohan and Curtis return to their roles as mother and daughter, 22 years after the first film was released. The 2003 film saw Tess Coleman (Curtis) and musician Anna (Lohan) trade places, after reading fortune cookies at a Chinese restaurant. The story picks up with Lohan's character, Anna, now a mother to a teenage daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepmother. In the sequel, Anna's daughter Harper, played by Julia Butters and her soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily Davies, portrayed by Sophia Hammons, join Anna and her mother Tess in a wild, quadruple body swap. Reflecting on returning for the sequel, Murray said they had to work out how his character would realistically fit into the updated story. "It's a house of cards, you move one piece and the whole thing kind of crashes down with four people switching bodies. So we had to be really careful and deliberate with the choices we made," he said. "I went straight into analytics mode. We had to flesh out who Jake has been over the last 22 years. What's he been up to? Where's he gone? What's the funniest choice here? And that's where we went. Then it just became exciting from there." Murray added: "My joking sales pitch for this film has been, this movie will make you live longer as it reduces cortisol levels. "If this is the type of content I do for the rest of my life as an actor I'm done, I'm happy, I'm in." The 2003 film was based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, which was previously turned into a 1976 movie starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris.
