Raptors-Nets RJ Barrett Trade Report Drops on Tuesday
Raptors-Nets RJ Barrett Trade Report Drops on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
RJ Barrett emerged as the Toronto Raptors' top performer this past season, averaging 21.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. Since arriving in a midseason trade from the New York Knicks, Barrett quickly became a go-to scoring option for Toronto and often carried the offensive load. Despite his efforts, the Raptors finished 11th in the East with a 30-52 record and missed the playoffs for a third straight year, but now hold the 9th overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

Looking to return to contention next season, Toronto is building a new core around Brandon Ingram, whom they recently acquired in a blockbuster deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. However, that ambition may now come at the cost of one of their most consistent players.

According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, a potential trade between Toronto and the Brooklyn Nets is looming—a deal that would likely send Barrett and the 9th pick to Brooklyn. No other details have yet been confirmed, but the talks are reportedly gaining traction.
Siegel wrote, "Is there a potential trade brewing between the Nets and Raptors that could see Barrett and the ninth pick go to Brooklyn? This is something many around the league are keeping an eye on, as there is no guarantee Toronto will keep the ninth pick in this year's draft."
On paper, the move could work well for both teams. The Nets, in the midst of a reset, would gain a young, reliable scorer in Barrett and a top-10 pick to further their rebuild. For Toronto, it's a chance to clear cap space and potentially gain a win-now piece to pair with Scottie Barnes and Ingram as they eye a postseason return.

Since arriving from New York in the OG Anunoby trade, Barrett has embraced a lead role and impressed with his improved efficiency. While he's beloved by many in Canada as a native son, the Raptors appear ready to make bold moves—leaving Barrett's future with the team very much in doubt.

Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers blasts entitlement of media and fans over wedding
Over the course of his NFL career, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has become more and more private as time went on. Rodgers is the antithesis of the modern NFL player who feeds off attention, good or bad, and never saw a camera or microphone they didn't love. Rodgers delayed his signing with the Steelers this offseason, presumably because he got married. This became instant news, and the media really dug in on it, especially since no one was sure as to who his new bride was after Rodgers confirmed he was wearing a wedding ring. Advertisement But on Tuesday, when Rodgers appeared on the Pat McAfee Show, he put the media and fans on blast, referring to them as a "sick society" for their sense of entitlement to information. Married or not, all most fans want to know if if Rodgers can finally get the Steelers over the playoff hump before he rides off into the sunset. Rodgers signed a one-year contract with Pittsburgh and the team is hoping it is more than just a simple stopgap measure and the team can make a deep playoff run. Rutgers' Ace Bailey addresses NBA draft rumors: 'I'm focused on basketball'
Former Rutgers forward Ace Bailey side-stepped questions on Tuesday after reportedly turning down several workout requests ahead of the 2025 NBA draft. Bailey canceled a workout last week with Philadelphia (No. 3 pick) and has declined other invitations from Charlotte (No. 4) and Utah (No. 5). The prevailing thought is that Bailey and his representation want to land with a specific team to maximize his development. The 6-foot-8 standout, who was long thought to be selected with the third pick, is now projected to be drafted outside of the top five. He and his group likely feel as though Washington (No. 6), New Orleans (No. 7) or Brooklyn (No. 8) represent his best chance at long-term success. "I'm just blessed to be in this position I am right now," Bailey said after he was asked why he reportedly canceled his workout with the Sixers. "That's all. I'm taking it day by day." Bailey was a third-team All-Big Ten selection, averaging 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and one steal on 34.6% shooting from 3-point range last season with the Scarlet Knights. He ranked ninth among all freshmen in points (527) and 10th in rebounds (215). The 18-year-old measured slightly smaller than expected at the draft combine last month, after Rutgers listed him at 6 feet, 10 inches. That development, along with his precarious handling of workouts and interviews, has contributed to his name falling down draft boards. "I feel like I can only control what I can control," Bailey said. "I mean, you can think how you think, but I can control what I can control." Bailey is the only U.S.-based prospect who hasn't worked out with any team ahead of the draft on Wednesday (8 p.m. EDT; ABC, ESPN). The prospects ranked ahead of him -- Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper, VJ Edgecombe and Kon Knueppel -- have all visited at least one team. Declining workout requests isn't a new development. But, prospects working out with no teams is rare, though it is reportedly a decision Bailey and his team are comfortable with, likely meaning they have received a promise from a team outside the top five. But Bailey isn't letting the swirling conversation affect him. He is focused on becoming the best version of himself throughout the predraft process and is eager to find his new home on Wednesday, wherever that might be. "I'm focused on basketball," Bailey said. "That's my decision. Just basketball."

Angel Reese Becomes Fastest in WNBA History to Hit Major Milestone on Tuesday
Angel Reese Becomes Fastest in WNBA History to Hit Major Milestone on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Sky are certainly not off to the start they had hoped for this season, despite hiring first-year head coach Tyler Marsh and making several key offseason additions. Advertisement After finishing 13-27 last year, the Sky entered Tuesday night's matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks with a 3-10 record and riding a three-game losing streak. On the bright side, second-year forward Angel Reese continues to shine. Drafted No. 7 overall in 2024 out of LSU, Reese has quickly become the focal point of the Sky's roster and is already regarded as one of the WNBA's brightest young stars. At halftime against the Sparks—with the Sky trailing 48-42—Reese had tallied four points, four rebounds, and four assists. According to "Polymarket Hoops," Reese is now the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 150-plus rebounds and 50-plus assists in a single season. Her passing game has shown significant growth since her rookie year. Earlier in the first quarter, Reese became the fastest player in WNBA history to record over 600 points and 600 rebounds in her young career. Advertisement Through her first 13 games of the season, Reese is averaging a double-double with 10.8 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.7 steals per game, while shooting 37.4% from the field and 76.3% from the free-throw line. Another fan posted, "I read the first half and said 'no shot' and then I realized." Someone else added, "Angel Reese ain't gone let nobody else get a board I'll tell you that." One more fan commented, "Angel Reese is becoming a point forward and I'm just so happy."
