Packers reveal Jordan Love injury in preseason twist

New York Posta day ago
The Packers have a sudden Jordan Love injury worry.
Green Bay's starting quarterback underwent surgery to repair a ligament in his left, non-throwing thumb on Tuesday, GM Brian Gutekunst announced.

Love, 26, 'shouldn't miss any regular-season time,' Gutekunst said, and he could be back at practice next week.
Love's thumb got hit by a helmet during the Packers' preseason loss to the Jets on Saturday at Lambeau Field at the end of his second series.
He practiced Monday before getting the surgery Tuesday.
'Obviously, you guys saw him out there, he certainly was able to function,' Gutekunst told reporters. 'But as we looked at all the options and he did as well, the best option I think for him to get back the fastest and feel the best was to do this. He wanted to go out there [Monday] to kind of see how it felt, and once we got through that, we made the decision.'

Love has led the Packers to playoff berths in each of his two seasons as their starting quarterback after the team moved on from Aaron Rodgers.
In 15 games last season, Love had 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Love has roughly three-and-a-half weeks to get ready for the Packers' season opener on Sept. 7 at home against the Lions.
Malik Willis, the 2022 Titans third-round pick whom the Packers acquired from Tennessee before the start of last season, is Green Bay's No. 2 quarterback, with 2023 fifth-round pick Sean Clifford at No. 3 on the depth chart and undrafted rookie Taylor Elgersma at No. 4.

Where did CeeDee Lamb rank in the 2025 NFL Top 100?

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb may not have had the best weekend, but when the former Oklahoma Sooners star wears his uniform and is on the field, he remains one of the best in the NFL. The 15th iteration of the "NFL Top 100" began airing on NFL Network in June with players No. 100 to 91. This week, players No. 40 through 31 will be ranked. Most recently, Lamb, entering his sixth season in the league, checked as the NFL's 35th best player in the countdown. Lamb is coming off a season in which he caught 101 passes for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns. It marked the third straight year he caught more than 100 passes and the fourth straight in which he gained more than 1,100 yards receiving. Accordingly, he was named to the Pro Bowl for the fourth straight season and named an All-Pro for the third consecutive year. His 2025 numbers did drop across the board compared to his 2024 totals. His ranking did, too. Entering last year, Lamb ranked as the No. 13 player in the league, a drop of 22 spots this year. Right next to him, at No. 36 was his Cowboys teammate, linebacker Micah Parsons. Parsons also fell from No. 17 entering last year. Dallas selected Lamb with the No. 17 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. With the Sooners, he caught 173 passes for 3,292 yards and 32 touchdowns over three seasons. After his junior year, he was named a consensus All-American upon leading the Big 12 in touchdown catches with 14. His reception total ranks him second in school history behind only Ryan Broyles, while his yardage total ranks him third, behind Broyles and Sterling Shepard. The Cowboys are coming off a disappointing 7-10 season in which they failed to make the playoffs for the first time since Lamb's rookie year. They open the regular season Thursday, September 4, on the road against the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. Former Ohio State football star selected for Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame

I'm extremely humbled and grateful. I just want to say thank you to the @eagles organization and the Lurie family for the opportunity to represent this franchise. To my family, friends, teammates, and supporters I'm so grateful for all of the memories we share. 🥂 On Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles announced their 2025 Hall of Fame class and there's a former Ohio State player who will be a part of all of the festivities. Malcolm Jenkins, a Thorpe Award winner who played for the Buckeyes from 2005 to 2008, and who was a three-time All-Big Ten performer and All-American, will be enshrined in the Eagles Hall of Fame during a home game against the Chicago Bears on Nov. 28. Jenkins was drafted by the New Orleans Saints coming out of Ohio State in 2009, but played for the Eagles from 2014 to 2019 before finishing his career with the Saints. He retired in 2021. While with Philadelphia, Jenkins racked up 515 tackles, including 32 tackles for loss, and 11 interceptions. He made the Pro Bowl three out of the six years he played for the Eagles. He was a part of the Super Bowl-winning team during the 2017-2018 season. "I'm extremely humbled and grateful. I just want to say thank you to the @eagles organization and the Lurie family for the opportunity to represent this franchise," Jenkins wrote in a post on 'X.' "To my family, friends, teammates, and supporters I'm so grateful for all of the memories we share." Jenkins will always be remembered as one of the best defensive backs to ever don the scarlet and gray, and now he'll forever be remembered as one of the best to do it for the Eagles franchise as well. Lionel Taylor, Broncos Ring of Fame member and Super Bowl-winner, dead at 89

Lionel Taylor, an original player for the Broncos and a member of the team's Ring of Fame, died on Aug. 6, the team announced Wednesday night. He was 89. Taylor was part of the 1960 Broncos squad, which was the first to play in the newly formed AFL. He was also a two-time Super Bowl-winning wide receiver coach with the Steelers in the 1970s under head coach Chuck Noll. Taylor was the first receiver — in the NFL or AFL — to record at least 100 receptions in a single season and ended his seven campaigns with the Broncos as their record holder in receptions (543), receiving yards (6,872) and touchdown catches (44). 3 Lionel Taylor (87) was an original member of the Denver Broncos. Bettmann Archive The first two records stood for more than 30 years, and he remains in the franchise's top five in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown receptions. 'We are saddened to learn of the passing of #BroncosROF wide receiver Lionel Taylor,' the Broncos said in a post on X. 'An original Bronco and one of the most dominant players of his era, Taylor had a tremendous impact on the franchise during his seven seasons in Denver (1960-66). Our hearts go out to Taylor's family and friends.' He started his football career with the Bears — originally as a linebacker — before going on to spend seven seasons in Denver and switching to the offensive side. 3 Lionel Taylor is in the Broncos' Ring of Honor. 'This was a guy [who had] hands like vice grips,' AFL historian and author Dave Steidel said, per the Broncos' website. 'If a pass was near him, he was getting it. He caught double-digit passes [per game]. Nobody was catching 10, 11, 12 in a game back then in either league.' Taylor was inducted into the Broncos Ring of Fame in 1984.
