Saturn Retrograde in Pisces 2025: Prepare yourself for this gruelling transit

Hindustan Times11-07-2025
There are transits, and then there are Saturn transits that change how we live, think and grow. Saturn's retrograde is not merely some planetary turn of motion; it is that cosmic call to revisit, rework, and contemplate the deepest structures of our lives. Occurring on the 13th of July, 2025, Saturn will retrograde in the spiritual waters of Pisces (Meena Rashi) for a period of 138 days, only getting direct on November 28. The key is to prepare yourself—with self-awareness and transformation from within—rather than fear it. Read out the astrological significance of Saturn Retrograde in Pisces 2025.

What is Saturn Retrograde?
First, we must truly comprehend what Saturn retrograde means. Many believe Saturn to be a malevolent force. In Vedic astrology, Shani Dev is seen as the ultimate teacher. He is strict, yes; good discipline, karma, time, and destiny are all unfolding ever so slowly under his jurisdiction. When Saturn goes retrograde, its energy withdraws from the outside world. Instead of pushing us toward our future, it asks us to stop and stare unblinkingly at the unfinished, ignored, or suppressed areas in our lives. Retrograde is not punishment; it is just a pause, albeit sometimes a very painful one, because all the things we normally avoid will stare back at us with honest eyes.

What makes this 2025 Saturn retrograde even more intense is that it is set in Pisces, a sign ruled by Jupiter, the planet associated with symbolism, imagination, faith, emotional depth, and illusion. Embodying the last of the zodiac signs, Pisces means endings, surrender, and spiritual fulfilment. Saturn, being a planet that prefers structure, finds itself a little too much at home in this formless ocean, and during retrograde times, the uneasy feeling intensifies.
By being responsive to orders, Saturn clashes with Pisces' dissolving nature, potentially leaving us emotionally raw, completely baffled, and spiritually put to the test. It will feel like everything will be slipping out of one's control for many, and that is the key lesson by Saturn: to find one's ground, not out there but within.

This phase will bring emotional exhaustion, spiritual questioning, unexplainable fogginess in the mind, weird dreams, and almost like waking memories of a past life. People will feel disconnected from their goals and uncertain about their direction. Everything just seems to either slow down or face awkward silences, even faith seems to have its doubts. But in this uneasy pit resides some deep magic, and it is a process of purification. Saturn can penetrate and wipe clean all that is old, fake, and untrue. It reveals where dreams were merely illusions and which ones are worth building with very slow and patient hold through commitment.
How to prepare for the Saturn transit in 2025?
How do we prepare for this karmic period? The central theme is structuring the unstructured. Pisces is fluid, ever drifting, and when Saturn retrogrades across it, months are felt like the unravelling of a life. To counter this, begin with small rituals, such as waking up at the same time each day, maintaining cleanliness, setting screen time limits, and practising a simple prayer or any other spiritual practice for five minutes, whether it's silence or chanting. Your mind will take these as an anchor and keep energy grounded. Satun respects discipline more than devotion alone.
Spiritual practice will indeed be important during this period, as the transit will have a significant presence. Beware. Pisces loves mystical, magical and poetic oceans. This time leads many a soul to seek answers through dubious spiritual means that stem from spiritual bypassing: meditation that avoids facing real issues, chasing the very gurus that have to bring back their healing, using detachment as a way of sidestepping responsibility. This is Saturn's test: are you spiritual for truth, or escape? Keep the practice simple. Light a diya every morning. Offer water to a Shivling. Chant "Om Sham Shanicharaya Namah" or "Om Namah Shivaya." Serve your elders. That's when Saturn will look at your sincerity.
Take some time to clear your emotional karma next. Saturn will stir hidden memories, pain from past relationships, old regrets, and inner wounds. Don't push down. Let them surface and pass. Journal about what arises. Talk to a trusted friend or a therapist. Forgive quietly, with or without an apology. Saturn appreciates emotional maturity. If you have karmic debts to settle, be it through closure, service, or self-reflection, now is the time.
While this retrograde is upon us, keep an eye out for escapism returning. People may feel strong urges to revert to their old habits: binge-watching, substance use, overthinking, and procrastination. This is Saturn showing you your self-fulfilling weaknesses. Instead of condemning yourself, observe. Replace one unhealthy habit with one positive one. Listen to sacred music instead of distractions. Read spiritual texts. Practice digital fasting once a week. These small, conscious acts will realign your energy with Saturn's wisdom.
Another issue worth considering is your dreams and goals. Pisces encourages large, sometimes unrealistic visions. Saturn retrograde is asking: Are these dreams structured? Do you have sustenance for them, or are you just hanging on by a thread? This retrograde serves as a reality check: take a breath and reconsider your long-term goals. Saturn doesn't do away with your dreams; it puts them through the gauntlet. What lasts through this retrograde is what you are truly ready to build. It might feel disheartening if you've been all talk but no action. Use this instead as fuel for going back-brick by brick.
Impact of Saturn Retrograde 2025 on zodiac signs
The intensity of this retrograde will be experienced more by some than others. Pisces, Virgo, Gemini, and Sagittarius will go through some deep personal shifts. At the same time, if you are a Capricorn or Aquarius rising or Moon sign, this retrograde will pierce through your identity, communication, or emotional health. Theme karmas will intensify during the Sade Sati or Saturn Mahadasha, but remember, the harshest Saturnian lessons become your greatest strengths should you engage with humility and hard work.
There exist remedies to ease the passage. Feeding the poor or disabled on a Saturday is considered auspicious. Following this, light a mustard oil lamp under the peepal tree in the evening. Offer black sesame seeds; donate black clothing. Read or listen to the Shani Chalisa. Repeat the Hanuman Chalisa every day; it tempers the sternness of Saturn with Hanuman's grace. Above all, do Seva—selfless service: help someone with no expectations. Shani Dev rejoices when pride melts into compassion.

‘Volume IV' at Experimenter Colaba

The body is first taught obedience through fabric. The swaddle before speech, the school uniform before dissent, shame before skin. Clothing is behavioural before — and because — it is cultural. In Volume IV: Truths, Half-Truths, Half-Lies, Lies, Kolkata-based artist and fashion designer Kallol Datta invites us to look at clothing as a long and loaded manual of social instruction. Drawing from Lessons for Women, a 2,000-year-old guidebook written by Chinese historian Ban Zhao for her daughters, Datta unpacks how garments have told people, especially women, how to sit, stand, move, behave, belong, and be excluded. Rules written in thread Zhao's book may have been written as a way for mothers to prepare daughters for survival in a rigid society, but its advice — on how to be modest, obedient, restrained — has stuck around for millennia. It keeps surfacing in new forms: in 16th-century Confucian revivalism, in the 'values' taught to girls across cultures today, in viral videos preaching 'feminine behaviour' and the new aspirational 'trad wife'. All markers of neo-fascism and an imminent recession. Datta was stunned by how familiar the text felt. 'While feminist movements and ideologies have evolved,' they say, 'the dominant forces… continue to subscribe to antiquated notions of social and behavioural propriety.' Even today, lessons dressed up as care — especially from mother to daughter — can quietly reinforce control. Clothing is political Datta, with his kohl-rimmed eyes and love of all things black, was a significant figure on the Indian fashion scene — until the Central Saint Martins-trained 'clothes maker' made the switch a few years ago from mainstream fashion to art. Since then he's tapped into textile, craft and his connections, but this time to explore clothing as sites of tension. Like his 2022 showcase of textile sculptures, titled Volume 3, ISSUE 2, which looked at the role of imperial edicts in Japan's late Shōwa period. Volume IV is structured like a story in four parts: Truths, Half-Truths, Half-Lies, and Lies Our Clothes Have Told Us. It travels across Asian garments — from the Japanese kimono to the Manipuri phanek — to show how fashion has long been used to signal status, enforce gender roles, and mark caste. The sari, often seen as a timeless symbol of Indian femininity, is one of the most revealing examples. The blouse and petticoat, though they now seem inseparable from the unstitched garment, were introduced during colonial rule, shaped by British-Victorian ideas of modesty. These facts, often tucked away from public memory, are central to Datta's work. Their pieces — textile posters, sculptural forms, and layered fabric compositions — are built from donated clothes and stitched with history. In these collages of cloth, Datta asks: who gets to be comfortable? Who gets to move freely? Who gets to be seen? Unbuilding the home One of the most striking parts of the show features two textile floor plans. The first maps out a Korean hanok (a traditional house), where the design reflects rigid gender roles: male quarters in front, female quarters at the back, separate doors for servants and labourers. The second plan reimagines the house with only women living in it. Now, there are wide corridors, shared rooms, spaces for leisure and ease. In Datta's vision, just as clothing teaches us how to shrink ourselves, architecture teaches us to shrink our movement; where we're allowed to go and where we're not. By redrawing these spaces, they ask: what if homes were built around freedom instead of discipline? Inherited stains Each garment used in Volume IV comes with a memory. 'Every donation was accompanied by information from the donor… memories, episodic events connected to the items of clothing,' Datta shares. When old clothes are passed on in elite spaces, they are called vintage fashion; but what's seen as nostalgic for one group is seen as shameful for another. In many Indian homes, for instance, clothes worn by lower caste domestic workers are kept separate, never touched, let alone or reused. In Datta's view, 'class hierarchies and abject caste structures… continue to exist in the regions of my interest'. So, the artist's act of collecting and transforming these textiles becomes a way of rejecting this imbalance and showing how quietly and deeply caste and class shape even something as intimate as a hand-me-down. Slow resistance Where the state uses surveillance and laws to discipline, Datta uses slowness. Stitching, assembling, disassembling, their process becomes a kind of quiet refusal. 'There are recurring motifs in the works that are markers of small acts of resistance, of dissent, lack of access to economic activity… Clothes, and by extension, cloth, will always remain our first line of defence,' says Datta, who collaborated with Kolkata-based Ek Tara Creates, which employs women from vulnerable backgrounds, for the series. In Volume IV, the garment is not precious or sacred, it is strange. Datta, however, doesn't aim to shock. They ask us to look again. At the folds of our garments. At the rules we've absorbed. The exhibition is rife with silences that are full of questions. If every stitch is a sentence, then maybe the clothes we wear are trying to tell us something. If only we'd listen. Volume IV is on till August 20 at Experimenter in Mumbai. The writer is founding editor of Proseterity, a literary and arts magazine.

'Ask daddy for a bumblebee': Toddler after surviving 18-storey fall; father honours tree with red flower

AI Image used for Representative purpose China witnessed a miracle when a boy, who is just three years old, miraculously survived an extraordinary 18-storey fall from his residential building, with a tree breaking his fall. The event occurred on July 15 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, southeastern China, while the young boy was under his grandparents' supervision, South China Morning Post reported. The grandparents had stepped out briefly to purchase groceries, believing the child was asleep. They secured the flat's door to ensure his safety. Upon waking, the child entered the bathroom, which had an unprotected window. He climbed onto the toilet and subsequently the window, from which he fell. A tree intercepted his fall, enabling his survival. His father later placed a large red flower on the tree in appreciation. A passing resident discovered him and recorded a video, sharing it with the property management. The father, Zhu, initially doubted the 18-storey fall until viewing surveillance footage. He explained that an open window on the 17th floor altered his son's falling path, directing him towards the tree that cushioned his landing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unsold 2021 Cars Now Almost Free - Prices May Surprise You Unsold Cars | Search Ads Learn More Undo At the hospital, staff termed his survival miraculous.
