Maa Twitter Review: Netizens call Kajol's horror debut ‘Flawed yet…'
Maa Twitter Review: Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa marks Kajol's powerful return to the big screen, her first full‑blown horror in her career, and she delivers. It's intense, gripping, and unlike any typical Bollywood fare.
The film, which hit cinemas today, June 27th, revolves around a mythological horror rooted in maternal courage and this mother's battle with a powerful curse will keep you hooked till the end.
Backed by Ajay Devgn's production house, Maa is expected to make a strong impact at the box office. Early estimates suggest that the film could collect anywhere between Rs 4.5 crore to Rs 6.5 crore on its opening day. The makers are hopeful that Kajol's Ma will surpass the Day 1 earnings of Shahid Kapoor's Deva , which had opened with Rs 5.78 crore. Check Twitter Reviews on Maa
After watching the film, one of the users wrote, ' Strong performance! It delivers on atmosphere and emotion, but loses pace in the first hour and feels longer than needed. While the visual effects work in parts, some scenes lack polish. The connection to the Shaitaanverse feels underdeveloped.'

'#MAA is a mythological horror film which was mostly undetailed and illogical… Plot was decent(fairytale fantasy), but execution falters … Bgm was good… The movie has lots of VFX shots, which were actually good and clear… The cast did well…But overall, it is neither as good as #Shaitaan nor like #Streeverse films… In the two twists, one was expected, and one was not… Backstory misses the detailing as Furia did in his previous outing #Chhorri2 too … Attacking/face off scenes could have been composed better … Overall an average fare for me … Wait for OTT.'

Puja Banerjee breaks silence on kidnapping and extortion allegations: ‘God is watching'
Days after an FIR was filed against her and husband Kunal Verma, actress Puja Banerjee has broken her silence for the first time. Taking to social media, she expressed heartbreak over the allegations, calling them baseless and false. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Puja wrote, 'Going through the toughest time of our lives. To those who are standing by us — we will be forever grateful. And to those who believe in the lies being spread against us, God bless them too. I believe in God, and you know — GOD IS WATCHING.' Earlier this month, Bengali film producer Shyam Sunder Dey accused Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma of kidnapping him in Goa and extorting Rs 23 lakh. According to Dey, Puja was like a sister to him, which made the alleged threats for money even more shocking. He further claimed that Kunal, along with a group of men, physically assaulted him in Puja's presence and confiscated his phone. A separate phone was allegedly kept with him solely for the purpose of transferring the extorted amount. Dey said he was rescued on June 4, after his wife Malabika Dey alerted the police. He had managed to use the spare phone to send his live location and a video he secretly recorded in a bathroom to help authorities trace him. Following the complaint, an FIR was filed against Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — the new criminal code replacing the IPC. The couple has been charged under provisions related to abduction, extortion, criminal intimidation, and wrongful confinement. While the couple did not name anyone at the time, speculation around the connection between the two events quickly grew. Soon after, Shyam Sunder Dey's wife Malabika Dey took to Facebook, publicly sharing disturbing details of what she described as a 'betrayal and a breach of trust' by close friends. Her post read: 'This incident is not just a serious crime; it is a betrayal and a breach of trust toward a friend. In addition to the physical and mental abuse on Shyam, our entire family is suffering immense emotional trauma. We are following legal recourse and have complete faith in the judicial system. I urge all members of the creative community to remain vigilant.' She further alleged that Shyam was threatened with being falsely implicated in a drug case if he failed to pay an additional Rs 64 lakh.

As per the latest update on Sacnilk, Maa has made an opening day haul of ₹ 4 crore. (Also read: Maa Twitter reviews: Fans say Kajol's lead performance is the saving grace, horror film drags in the second half) Kajol in a still from Maa, which released in theatres on June 27. The report points out that Maa made an opening day collection of ₹ 4.15 crore, as per early estimates. The horror film had an overall 16.49% Hindi Occupancy on Friday. For the morning shows, the occupancy was at 8.23%, while for the afternoon shows, the numbers showed a growth with 20.08%. The occupancy for the evening shows were at 21.16%. In the mythological horror thriller Maa, Kajol stars as a fierce mother named Ambika, who will go to any lengths to protect her daughter from mysterious forces. Maa also stars Indraneil Sengupta, Jitin Gulati, and Kherin Sharma. It is directed by Vishal Furia and produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Subbarayan. An excerpt from the Hindustan Times review of the horror film read, 'There's social commentary buried somewhere in the ritualistic blood, VFX smoke and characters speaking Bengali deliberately in such a heavy accent as though their life depended upon it- coupled with a feminist undertone. It barely lands. The intent is in place though: the idea of a desperate mother becoming Maa in the climax is executed well, and is frankly the only part where you are hooked. Now if only the entire film had such elevation points.'

EXCLUSIVE: Aamir Khan is ‘Honoured' to do Dadasaheb Phalke with Rajkumar Hirani: Says, ‘It's drama with comedy'
Earlier in the year, Pinkvilla was the first to report that after the historic success of 3 Idiots and PK, Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani are teaming up for the third time. Soon after, they made the collaboration official, confirming that the film will be a biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke and announced a Christmas 2026 release. Ever since, there is a tremendous anticipation to know more on the feature film. In an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, celebrating the success of Sitaare Zameen Par, we asked Aamir Khan to share an update on the reunion with Rajkumar Hirani. Aamir Khan confirmed that the film will go on floors in the last quarter of 2025 and the prep-work is currently underway. 'I think, Phalke is a huge challenge. Again, it's not a regular mainstream film loaded with action and set pieces. It is the story of a man, who did things that no one could even imagine back in the day. He was way ahead, he was an adventurer, he was a person who was full of life, and excitement about something he wanted to do. It is one man's journey on an adventure, which even he does not know about. It will be a great honour for Raju and me to make a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke,' Aamir shared. Be it 3 Idiots or PK, all the collaborations of Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani have been laced with strong undertones of comedy. Will we get to see humour in Phalke too? Aamir answered, 'I think, Raju and Abhijat (Joshi, writer) have special leaning towards comedy and so do I. All 3 of us really like humour and I think that's the genre which Raju likes to work in – drama with humour. So, this will also probably fall into the same genre.' Talking of Sitaare Zameen Par, the film is headed to make an entry in the Rs 100 crore club on its 9th day, and is a theatrical success. The RS Prassana directorial will consolidate its run with a clean hit tag once it tops the Rs 150 crore mark at the Indian Box Office, which should happen in the third weekend. Meanwhile, don't forget to watch the full interaction with Aamir Khan, wherein we spoke about his next with Lokesh Kanagaraj, Lahore 1947, Pritam Pyaare, Mahabharata, Sitaare Zameen Par's success and a lot more.
