HMRC home working expenses you can claim back for five years
The money is given to cover the extra household costs if you have to work at home for all or part of the week.
According to the HMRC website, this could be because::
your job requires you to live far away from your office
your employer does not have an office
You cannot claim tax relief if you choose to work from home. This includes if:
your employment contract lets you work from home some or all of the time
your employer has an office, but you cannot go there sometimes because it's full
You can only claim for things to do with your work, such as:
business phone calls
gas and electricity for your work area
You cannot claim for things that you use for both private and business use, such as rent or broadband access. You can claim for this tax year and the 4 previous tax years.
You can either claim tax relief of £6 a week, or the exact amount you've spent, and you'll get tax relief based on the rate at which you pay tax. So, if you pay the 20% basic rate of tax and claim tax relief on £6 a week, you would get £1.20 per week in tax relief (20% of £6).
In a post on his Money Saving Expert website, Martin Lewis says: "If your employer requires you to work from home, you've always been able to claim for increased costs, eg, heat or electricity, for the specific time at home. Yet in October 2020, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) launched a 'microservice' which, even if you only needed to work from home for a day, allowed you to get a whole year's tax relief.
"That special relief applied for both the 2020/21 AND 2021/22 tax years – meaning many are due two years' worth, which can translate to up to £280 in your pocket.
"Since I first got tipped off about the microservice, I've pushed hard to make people aware, both here and on my TV show – and that push worked, with substantially more than four million people claiming. But many more could be missing out.
"So, if you had to work from home, even for a day, from 6 April 2020 to 5 April 2022 and haven't claimed, then you can still claim."

How to claim
When you claim, you must send evidence that you have to work from home if you're either claiming:
£6 a week for the tax year 2022 to 2023 or later
the exact amount you've spent
If you're claiming the exact amount you've spent, you will also need to send evidence such as a copy of your receipts or bills.
If you complete a Self Assessment tax return, you must claim through your tax return instead.

Former world darts champion, 34, is BANNED as company director for five years over failure to pay £450k tax bill
Rob Cross has been banned as a company director for five years after his business failed to pay more than £450,000 in tax. The ban prevents him from being involved in the promotion, formation or management of a company, without the permission of the court, until June 2030. The 2018 world champion set up Rob Cross Darts Limited in 2017 to receive prize money and it took in more than £1.4million in winnings and sponsorship as he embarked on the most successful spell of his career. But, before Mr Cross liquidated the company in 2023, he took out £300,000, which should have been paid to creditors, including to His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC). He also took more than £400,000 from the company in the form of a director's loan before the company was liquidated. Meanwhile, £665,419 was paid into the personal account of someone with links to Mr Cross. By the time it went into liquidation, Rob Cross Darts Limited owed the taxman £465,403. The 34-year-old, who is playing in the Nordic Masters in Copenhagen this weekend, entered into an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) last year and will make monthly contributions to pay off the money he owes. Kevin Read, chief investigator at the Insolvency Service, said: 'When directors fail to pay the correct amount of tax, it directly impacts the government's ability to fund vital public services such as the NHS, schools, transport infrastructure and our national defence.'

Tesco Clubcard changes for customers with new deals on offer
The supermarket scheme has launched new deal giving three months of entry to some of the UK's top attractions including Alton Towers and Thorpe Park, plus new cinema offers. While you can no longer triple up points - this ended a while ago - you can double up the value of your vouchers by spending them at Tesco's Reward Partners, such as Zizzi, Thorpe Park and easyJet Holidays. For example, 100 points are usually worth £1 to spend at Tesco – but if you exchange your vouchers for codes to use with a Reward Partner, 100 points are worth £2. For £60 in Tesco Clubcard Vouchers members can now get a three months pass with Merlin Entertainments, with entry to Alton Towers Resort, the LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort, Chessington World of Adventures Resort, Thorpe Park, Cadbury World, SEA LIFE Aquariums and others across the UK. There's also a deal running this week, until Sunday June 8, where Tesco Clubcard members can pick up tickets for the latest movies at Cineworld for £4 – which means exchanging only £2 of Tesco Clubcard vouchers at double their value for each ticket. Up to four tickets can be purchased at the discounted rate with each booking, meaning that Clubcard holders can treat family or friends to the movies by using £8 worth of Tesco Clubcard Vouchers. Cineworld is also offering a special £6 medium drink and popcorn deal, or for £1 extra customers can upgrade that to large. Tesco Group Membership and Loyalty Director, Shama Wilson said: 'This is a big year for Tesco Clubcard as we mark 30 years of rewards for our Clubcard members. 'In 1995, the year Clubcard launched, some of the biggest movies included Toy Story, Batman Forever and GoldenEye, and thanks to this amazing deal with our Reward Partner Cineworld, Clubcard members can buy a ticket to watch some of today's biggest movies with just £2 worth of Clubcard Vouchers.' To take up the deals, go to the Clubcard Rewards section of the Tesco app or Clubcard website and buy through the link - the Merlin pass details are here and the cinema ones are here. To get the drink and popcorn deal, customers will need to show their Clubcard when buying refreshments at the cinema. How to check your Clubcard vouchers – and find ones you've lost Tesco Clubcard vouchers are valid for two years from the date they were issued. If you're unsure when yours expire or you've lost your paper vouchers, check on the Tesco Clubcard site or app - select 'Clubcard account' and then 'Vouchers'. You'll need your Clubcard number, which is printed on Clubcards and Clubcard key fobs. Martin Lewis has a trick to extend Clubcard vouchers' lifespan On his Money Saving Expert website, it says: "If your Clubcard vouchers are due to expire and you don't want to use them yet, you may be able to extend the expiry date by another two years. "Technically, under the Clubcard T&Cs, Tesco can refuse a Reward Partner order if it decides you're trying to game the system by redeeming vouchers just to extend their validity – but we tested the trick at Towers this month and it worked just fine." Recommended reading: It adds, buy something cheap on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards page or donate to one of its partner charities. The remaining balance is credited back to your Clubcard account as points. So if you spend 50p using a £10 Clubcard voucher, you'll get 950 points back (worth £9.50), and get the 50p item - or donate it. "You can then swap your points for vouchers manually or wait for them to be converted with your next statement," says the site. "The expiry date for these new vouchers will be two years in the future. "There's no minimum spend, but the aim's to shell out as little as possible. A good option might be a 50p restaurant voucher (worth £1 at your chosen restaurant). You'll need to do this for each individual voucher, so it's worth weighing up if it's actually worth it for smaller denominations. For example, if you've a £10 voucher it could be worth it. If you've got a handful of £1 vouchers, maybe less so."

Rob Cross gets five-year director ban as former darts world champion punished over unpaid tax
"Voltage" is facing suspension until 2030 after payments issue Former World Darts champion Rob Cross has received a five-year ban as a director after his company failed to pay over £400,000 in tax. The 2018 king of the Alexandra Palace has been disqualified with commentary on the situation coming today from The Insolvency Service. Rob Cross Darts Limited was set up in May 2017 to receive prize money, but it was liquidated in 2023. During that time he failed to pay more than £400,000 to HMRC while also withdrawing £300,000 in money which should have been paid to creditors. "Voltage" has now entered an Individual Voluntary Arrangement to pay the monies off and how much he will contribute via this arrangement depends upon his earnings at darts tournaments. Kevin Read, chief investigator at the Insolvency Service, said: 'When directors fail to pay the correct amount of tax, it directly impacts the government's ability to fund vital public services such as the NHS, schools, transport infrastructure, and our national defence. 'Rob Cross's company owed more than £400,000 in corporation tax alone when it went into liquidation. 'For more than three years, he withdrew funds from the company which should have gone to HMRC and other creditors. 'This case demonstrates that we will pursue action against directors who deprive the public purse of much-needed funds. 'The rules apply equally to everyone in business, and we expect all company directors to comply with their legal responsibilities. 'Enforcing these rules consistently is crucial in maintaining a level playing field and preventing companies from gaining an unfair competitive advantage over compliant businesses that properly fulfil their tax obligations.'
