Pittsburgh native Neal Shipley earns PGA Tour card
The pride of Mount Lebanon's and Central Catholic's golf team is now an official PGA member. Ohio State golfer Neal Shipley just became the third Korn Ferry Tour player to get the card this year. The announcement came Wednesday after Shipley's impressive performance on the Korn Ferry Tour. He won two matches and had a streak of five consecutive top 10 finishes. Shipley tried to make the cut as an amateur for the 125th U.S. Open in Oakmont in June. He had said it was a dream for him to play at his hometown course. Unfortunately, he did not qualify, but he was at Oakmont for the tournament, cheering players on and talking to fans. Shipley played three years of collegiate golf at James Madison before transferring to Ohio State for the 2023-24 season. He stood apart by finishing as the low amateur at both the 2024 Masters and the 2024 U.S. Open, joining Jack Nicklaus as the only Ohio State golfers to achieve the low amateur honor at the Masters. At the 2024 Masters, Shipley was paired with golf legend Tiger Woods. His recent performance includes tying for eighth place at the Pinnacle Bank Championship in Omaha, Neb., just last week. Shipley is among the top Korn Ferry Tour players, with the potential for an immediate promotion to the PGA Tour for the remainder of 2025 if he secures a third win this year. Johnny Keefer and Austin Smotherman, both with two Korn Ferry Tour wins in 2025, are also close to earning immediate promotions. Scottie Scheffler Refuses Comment on Caddie's Situation: 'Family Is in Good Spirits'

Scottie Scheffler has been playing without his regular caddie, Ted Scott, since last Sunday, and his absence will extend at least through the entire BMW Championship. However, the reason for Scott's absence has remained private, and Scheffler isn't about to reveal what's behind it. In fact, the world No. 1 specifically declined to offer details on the matter when meeting with the press before his performance at the BMW Championship. A reporter asked him about the possibility of Scott returning for the Tour Championship, and Scheffler responded by asking them to drop that line of questioning. "I'm not going to answer anything like that," Scheffler told the reporters. "If that's why you came out here, you're not going to get much. I think Ted's where he needs to be right now, and I think caddieing is probably the last thing on his mind, as it should be. I've been able to talk to him a few times. The family is in good spirits. Everybody seems to be doing well. I'm not going to comment any further on anything going on with his family." The four-time major champion is apparently satisfied with the arrangement, all things considered. "It's been good, Mike's a great guy," he said. "He works really hard and does a good job. We're both learning a new golf course this week, so it's been fun. He'll ask some questions about things -- basically, he's just going to try to fill in as best he can this week." With Scott out, Cromie was an available option because Kirk finished 51st in the FedEx Cup rankings and failed to qualify for the BMW Championship. Naturally, Scheffler is in a very different situation, as he leads the rankings by a wide margin and is the favorite to win at Caves Valley Golf Club. If he does, it would be his fifth victory of the season and his first on the PGA Tour without Scott carrying his bag. It has not yet been reported whether Cromie will remain with Scheffler next week, should Scott be unable to resume his caddie duties for the TOUR Championship.
