A clothing brand are set to close their Edinburgh store after rising rents that they 'cannot match'.
Scamp and Dude, which opened up in the St James Quarter back in September 2023, have said the 'time has come' to hand the space back. They confirmed that a 'large food chain' would be moving in.
The clothing brand was launched back in 2016 by Jo Tutchener-Sharp after she was recovering from brain surgery and was missing her children. She was inspired to create a clothing line 'with superpowers' to give children confidence when away from their loved ones, which grew into a fashion brand for women and kids.
While they're closing the doors on the Edinburgh store, Scamp and Dude have said the 'search continues' for a new home in Scotland and they hope to return 'soon'. The stores last day will be on May 11.
They added that the team has been 'wonderful', and they've 'loved every minute'. The food chain moving in to the unit has not yet been confirmed.

A spokesperson for the brand told Edinburgh Live: "Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, our Edinburgh store will permanently close on May 11.
"The unit was generously provided to us by the landlord at a reduced rent, enabling us to afford such a fantastic space but sadly the time has come to hand it back, as a large food chain will be taking over the unit at a rent we simply cannot match.

"The store in Edinburgh and our wonderful team there, has been an incredible showcase for our brand to our Scottish audience, and we have loved every minute of it.
"Our search continues for a new home in Scotland, and we hope to return sometime soon. Until then our online store will look after our Scottish customers and our stores in Marlow, Battersea, Brighton and Cambridge will be there to welcome everyone."

SNP tried to push Scots 'into the arms of Reform' during Hamilton by-election campaign

The Scottish Labour leader tore into the Nationalists following a bitter by-election race in South Lanarkshire. Anas Sarwar has accused John Swinney of 'attempting to push people into the arms of Reform' during the Hamilton by-election campaign. The First Minister regularly claimed Scottish Labour could not win the seat and insisted the contest in South Lanarkshire was a two-horse race between his party and that of Nigel Farage. ‌ But the tactic failed spectacularly after Davy Russell emerged triumphant following a close three-way contest last week. ‌ Sarwar today accused the Nationalists of running a "dishonest and disgraceful" campaign during the run-up to the vote on June 5. During a heated exchange with journalist Martin Geissler on BBC Scotland's Sunday Show, the Scottish Labour leader branded questions put to him as 'embarrassing' and suggested Geissler was asking about a 'fantasy world'. Sarwar said: 'The best John Swinney had to offer after 18 years was 'vote SNP to stop Farage' – a dishonest, shameful campaign.' He said it showed a 'lack of ambition' from a Government 'running down the clock', and he claimed commentators had been 'embarrassed' by the result. Sarwar added: 'Frankly your questions are embarrassing too, Martin.' The broadcaster responded: 'I think you should be slightly embarrassed.' ‌ Sarwar also said he had spoken to Keir Starmer on Friday following the victory, and the Scottish leader said he wants to see the two-child benefit cap removed 'as fast as possible'. He insisted Labour aimed to 'improve growth' and bring mortgage rates and energy bills down to alleviate the cost-of-living crisis. He added: 'Maybe you don't have a mortgage Martin, but people do have mortgages across the country. ‌ 'There have been four interest rates cuts because of economic stability and those four interest rates cuts have meant that the average mortgage is down by over £1,000. 'We've started to see energy bills come down, but those need to come down much quicker, because people feel a real pressure in the cost-of-living crisis.' He said voters had 'utterly rejected the SNP and Reform and sent a message to John Swinney that he ran a dishonest and disgraceful campaign that attempted to push people into the arms of Reform rather than confront the issues he has caused in people's communities'. He added: 'That's why, ultimately, people want them removed from office.'

Michelle Mone makes 'millions in profits' after selling off Glasgow townhouses

The Scottish Mail on Sunday reports that Baroness Mone sold a £19m London townhouse and £6.8m Lady M Yacht last year. It comes after Glasgow-born Mone and her billionaire husband Doug Barrowman had £75m worth of assets frozen by the National Crime Agency (NCA). The couple are at the centre of a fraud probe over the firm PPE Medpro, controlled by Barrowman, that was awarded £203m worth of UK Government contracts through a 'VIP lane' during the Covid-19 pandemic. READ MORE: Supreme Court's sex ruling faces legal tests – will they succeed? In November 2023, Mone finally admitted her involvement with PPE Medpro for the first time, after years of denying any links to the company. It then emerged Barrowman was reportedly paid at least £65m from PPE Medpro's profits, later transferring £29m into a trust for Mone and her three adult children. Several properties were frozen under the Proceeds of Crime Act in 2023. And now, Mone has reportedly sold her Glasgow homes. The Mail on Sunday reports that there is no suggestion any of the property sales breached any existing orders put in place by the NCA. One townhouse in Glasgow's plush Park Circus was bought by Barrowman's Knox business group for £1.7m in 2020. The couple have now reportedly sold this to a photographer for £2m last year. Another nearby townhouse was sold for £2.8m, allegedly to a Scottish musician, who was not named. It was bought in July 2020 for just over £1.4m. A spokesperson for the NCA confirmed an investigation is still ongoing into PPE Medpro. 'The NCA opened an investigation in May 2021 into suspected criminal offences committed in the procurement of PPE contracts by PPE Medpro,' they said. 'This ongoing investigation remains a priority for the agency. READ MORE: Scottish independence 'already begun as UK political culture diverges' 'Investigations must pursue all reasonable lines of enquiry. In serious economic crime investigations these lines of enquiry can be incredibly complex – from worldwide financial tracing exercises to the need to examine large volumes of digital material. 'In such cases it can take considerable time to ensure that a thorough, independent and objective investigation is conducted.' PPE Medpro is also being sued by the Department of Health and Social Care, amid claims that the gown supplied by the firm were not fit for use. We previously told how Mone accused the NCA of "smearing [her] as a criminal".
