Carl Spackler adds truly international flavour to Queen Anne cracker
Three times a Grade One winner for Chad Brown in the States, the Lope De Vega five-year-old is now owned by Yulong Investments and with a new trainer in Ciaron Maher, meaning he will be a first Australian runner in a race superstar American mare Tepin won in 2016. Connections feel they have the right type of horse to be competitive, with William Bourne, Maher's bloodstock manager, saying: 'The sample size (of international runners in the Queen Anne) isn't huge, but his times really stacked up and just his temperament and attitude, he's the perfect horse to travel – he's an absolute dude and I think he's going to run a big race. Yulong Investments have confirmed the purchase of Carl Spackler, who will target the G1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal @Ascot! The horse, who has joined @cmaherracing, will become the first Australian-trained runner in the race before heading down under for a spring campaign. — At The Races (@AtTheRaces) May 26, 2025 'He's a very straightforward horse, there's not much to know – what you see is what you get. He's got a great temperament, he's like a kid's pony, he's made it so easy to bring him here, get him into the rhythm and train him. He's definitely made life easy for the boss. 'It's a red-hot race, there's no hiding, you're at Royal Ascot in a Group One so you're under no impression you're going to get an easy field. It is what it is, we think he's a pretty good horse and hopefully he can show up on Tuesday. 'When you speak to English owners and trainers at the Melbourne Cup, the buzz is the whole week and this is very similar – great weather, a lot of people, a lot of hype. It's a very international raceday and world class so just to even be here as a spectator or have a horse here, it's a privilege and to have Yulong entrust us with the horse is just amazing.' Lead Artist, Dancing Gemini, Rosallion and Notable Speech set a high standard for Carl Spackler to aim at, having filled the first four places in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury. With Sardinian Warrior a non-runner due to being off colour, John and Thady Gosden will rely on Lead Artist in Berkshire. John Gosden said: 'I think the stiff mile at Ascot will suit him well rather than a slick mile and it's a wonderful race. 'You have the first four in the Lockinge all turning up and will they finish in the same order, that will be the question. 'He got stuck in the ground at Sandown and he doesn't like that. He likes what we got at Newbury in the Lockinge and what we're hopefully going to get at Ascot on Tuesday. 'He was in need of the race at Sandown and he came there travelling nicely, it was just on that ground he struggled to get home. He turned that round and it wasn't a huge surprise. Did I think he would win? Probably not, but I did think he would run a huge race.' Notable Speech won last year's 2000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes and Charlie Appleby expects him to take a good step forward from his Lockinge reappearance. He told the Godolphin website: 'Notable Speech comes into this in great order and we are looking forward to seeing him on the straight track at Ascot. 'The Lockinge was his first start of the year and he has definitely come forward for the run. Conditions are there to suit him and it looks a fantastic race to kick off the meeting.'

Ben Stiller stopped by this Montreal poutine spot during Grand Prix weekend
Two of Montreal's most iconic dishes got some major attention over the Grand Prix 2025 weekend weekend. First, it was Lance Stroll visiting one of the city's most beloved delis. And now, Ben Stiller was captured in close proximity to one of the province's most famous poutines. The Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix 2025 edition was home to 120 food vendors lining the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, offering a variety of dishes. Ashton, located in the Green Zone, is where poutine becomes serious business: golden fries, fresh cheese curds, and hot gravy served with Quebec pride and tradition. Ben Stiller, the American actor, writer and director, was in town for race weekend with his wife, Christine Taylor. While the couple was snapped in and around the F1 circuit, there's one photo that has gone viral. A post on Ashton's Instagram account showed Ben Stiller standing next to a healthy portion of poutine, complete with a fork, and the following caption: 'Ben Stiller and an Ashton poutine in the same photo was not on our bingo card.' Ashton, purveyors of Quebéc poutine since 1969, also published a photo of Charles Leclerc's dog (the Monégasque racing driver who competes in Formula One for Ferrari), Leo, looking down at the circuit with the following caption: 'POV: Leo just waiting for his poutine at the Canadian Grand Prix'. Seventies TV star who shocked by posing naked for Playboy is unrecognizable as she's spotted in LA – can you guess who?
AN American TV icon who went from wholesome TV sister in the 70s to a sexy siren posing for Playboy in the 80s has been spotted on a day out in Los Angeles. The actress, 67, was seen embracing the heat in a summer dress during an errands run by her home, and still has effortless chic as she strolled in a pair of shades. 5 Judy became a massive star in the smash hit The Waltons in the 70s Credit: 5 The actress grew up on screen thanks to the show - but later tried to shed her image Credit: Getty 5 The Waltons followed the trials of the Walton family through the depression and WWII Credit: Getty Judy Norton shot to fame as Mary Ellen Walton in The Waltons from 1972 to 1981, becoming the sister figure for millions who tuned in every week to watch her. The Waltons followed the titular family – an expansive Virginia clan including Jason (Jon Walmsley), Erin (Mary Beth McDonough), Ben (Eric Scott), Elizabeth (Kami Cotler), Jim-Bob (David W. Harper), John Sr. (Ralph White), Olivia (Michael Learned) and Esther (Ellen Corby) – as they navigate the Great Depression era and World War II. As Mary Ellen, Judy appeared in all 212 episodes of the show's nine-season run, playing the oldest daughter of John and Olivia. Starting off as a tomboy figure in her younger years, Mary Ellen dreamed of a life away from the Walton Mountain before later pursuing a career as a nurse. But after the show ended, Judy was keen to shake off the image she had made during her nine years on screen, and in 1985 stripped off for Playboy Magazine. However, it was a decision she would later admit regretting, telling Fox News: 'I was getting a lot of advice from people who were representing me at the time. 'They felt it would be a good, positive career move. I wouldn't say that was the case and it's one of those things that if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have made the choice.' "I learned a lot of lessons from it, in terms of trusting my own instincts and decisions more than other people's, even though it seemed like they knew more than me,' she added. 'Ultimately, I'm the one that had to live with a difficult decision to make at the time. It is what it is. You can only go forward.' Since appearing in The Waltons, Judy has continued her career as an actress, appearing in episodes of TV series including Bluff, Beggars and Chooser, Stargate SG-1 and Disorganized Zone. Legendary Emmy-winning actress looks unrecognisable as she speaks about life-saving role She also reprised her role of Mary Ellen in a string of TV Movie Specials throughout the 90s, including A Walton Wedding, A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion and Mother's Day on Walton's Mountain. In 2020, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Judy brought some entertainment to fans by joining forces with a group of former child stars for Zoom-based sitcom, The Quarantine Bunch. Based around a 'support group for former child stars' each episode would see former child stars, including Growing Pains' Jeremy Miller, Danny Pintauro from Who's The Boss and Due South's Dean McDermott, log in to the 'meeting' in order to navigate life together. While she hasn't been seen on screen since 2022 short movie Space Limbo, she's now lining up a new project – writing and starring in drama Shoot Like A Girl, which is currently in pre-production. 5 Judy has now penned her own story, Shoot Like A Girl Credit:
