Elon Musk's Net Worth Drops by $34B After Feud With Trump

Elon Musk suffered a staggering $34 billion loss in personal wealth on Thursday following a heated public dispute with President Donald Trump.
Tesla shares plummeted 14.3% during Thursday's trading session, erasing approximately $150 billion from the electric vehicle company's market value. This massive loss translated to a $34 billion drop in Musk's net worth, marking the second-largest single-day drop ever recorded in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Despite this massive loss, Musk retained his position as the wealthiest individual globally, with his net worth falling to $334.5 billion.
The drop in net worth came after Musk publicly criticized Trump's signature "Big Beautiful Bill," calling the GOP legislation a "disgusting abomination" and urging Republican lawmakers to reject it due to concerns about budget deficits.
"I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore," Musk wrote on his social media platform X. "This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it."
Trump responded during a White House meeting on Thursday, expressing disappointment with Musk's opposition and suggesting the billionaire was upset about potential cuts to electric vehicle tax subsidies.
"Elon and I had a wonderful relationship. I'm not sure if that will remain," Trump told reporters .
The president later threatened on Truth Social to "terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts," referencing the billions in government contracts held by Musk's companies, particularly SpaceX. Musk fired back on his social media platform X, claiming he was responsible for Trump's 2024 election victory and accusing the president of having connections to Jeffrey Epstein. The Tesla CEO also threatened to decommission SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft, though he later walked back that statement.
The public feud represents a dramatic deterioration of what was once a close alliance. Musk had invested nearly $300 million supporting Trump's presidential campaign and served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency before stepping down last week.
Tesla's stock decline occurred during heavy trading volume, with approximately 100 million shares changing hands. The company's market capitalization remains around $1 trillion, making it the world's most valuable automaker despite recent losses.
This marks Musk's second-worst single-day wealth loss on record. His previous largest drop occurred in November 2021 when he lost $50 billion after posting a Twitter poll about selling Tesla stock.

ICE Detained Dozens at Alleged Tren de Aragua Meeting. It Was Actually a Child's Birthday Party

Federal immigration agents raided what they believed to be a criminal gang meeting in Texas , only to later discover the event had been a child's birthday party. The early morning raid in March resulted in the detention of 47 people, including nine children, according to the New Republic . The operation, carried out by ICE agents and Texas law enforcement, allegedly involved the use of flash grenades and left families terrified and confused. One attendee recalled repeatedly yelling that babies were present, but agents allegedly still deployed the devices inside the rented house believing the gathering to be a Tren de Aragua meeting. The raid was initially justified by the Trump administration as part of a crackdown on Venezuela's Tren de Aragua gang. However, weeks later, none of the detainees had any verified gang affiliations or even criminal records. One man told the Texas Tribune he had been celebrating his son's fifth birthday alongside a friend's 28th, and that ICE agents targeted him over tattoos they falsely linked to gang membership. He said the tattoos were simply stars he liked and had gotten as a teenager entering the workforce. ICE has not publicly released the names of those detained, but the Tribune identified 35 of them—mostly Venezuelan immigrants, many of whom spent weeks in detention and were released only after being fitted with ankle monitors. One of the children allegedly missed so many school days while in custody that they were removed from their public school. No criminal charges were filed against anyone involved. LA Mayor Encouraging Migrants to 'Know Your Rights' Amid Protests Sparks Fury From Conservatives: 'Their Only Right Is to Be Deported'

Conservative social media users have furiously taken to online platforms in response to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass calling upon Angelenos to "know their rights", claiming undocumented immigrants only have the right to deportation. "Angelenos: know your rights. Stay safe, stay informed," Bass wrote in a post to X (formerly Twitter), alongside an infographic educating people on how to respond when approached or questioned by federal immigration officers. Conservative users angrily began to respond to Bass' post, denying the rights of undocumented immigrants. "Illegals have no rights. Their only 'right' is to be deported," wrote one user. "Instructions for rioters?" asked another. "Illegals don't have rights. They should be in jail," wrote a third. The city of Los Angeles has become overrun with protests and demonstrations, beginning last Friday, after Immigration and Customs Enforcement began conducting raids at various locations in the city. Thousands of people took to the streets to protest the presence of federal immigration authorities in the city. President Donald Trump proceeded to deploy 2,000 National Guard troops to the city after repeatedly threatening federal intervention. He then took to his own social media platform, Truth Social, to justify his decision. "If I didn't 'SEND IN THE TROOPS' to Los Angeles the last three nights, that once beautiful and great City would be burning to the ground right now, much like 25,000 houses burned to the ground in L.A. due to an incompetent Governor and Mayor - Incidentally, the much more difficult, time consuming, and stringent FEDERAL PERMITTING PROCESS is virtually complete on these houses, while the easy and simple City and State Permits are disastrously bungled up and WAY BEHIND SCHEDULE!" Trump wrote. "They are a total mess, and will be for a long time. People want to rebuild their houses. Call your incompetent Governor and Mayor, the Federal permitting is DONE!!!" he continued. Pam Bondi Compares LA to a 'Third World Country' in Vow to Charge LA Protesters: 'Get Ready'

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi likened Los Angeles to a "Third World country" as she warned anti-ICE protesters that they could face a range of federal charges. On Monday, which marked the fourth day of consecutive protests across Los Angeles county, Bondi told Fox News anchor Sean Hannity that the Trump administration is "going to enforce the law" regardless of what California officials do. "Look at it out there," Bondi stated, "it looks like a Third World country, and it's not. It's the United States of America." The Justice Department's leader went on to say that the administration will also protect the Los Angeles Police Department, which includes federally prosecuting anyone that assaults an officer, citing 18 U.S. Code Section 231. She revealed the administration has nine open cases on assaulting federal officers with "more to come." Bondi added that, while an administration does not "typically" charge for looting, she will under the Hobbs Act, "which prohibits actual or attempted robbery or extortion affecting interstate or foreign commerce." "We are charging robbery. You loot a business in California, you are looking at a maximum of 20 years in prison," she continued. "You spit on a federal law enforcement officer—no more. As President Trump said 'you spit, we hit.' Get ready." The attorney general continued to say that protesters who spit on federal law enforcement officers, which includes Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, will receive up to five years in federal prison. Also on Monday, California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, alleging it unlawfully deployed 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles on Sunday without Gov. Gavin Newsom's consent. Newsom condemned the move as "a serious breach of state sovereignty." Originally published on Latin Times
