Eutelsat OneWeb
to provide broadband-from-space services in the
commercial maritime sector
.
The Mumbai-based company will provide Eutelsat OneWeb's services to merchant marine, leisure & yachting, offshore energy, and fishing segments internationally, according to a joint statement on Wednesday.
The partnership will see Station Satcom integrate OneWeb's Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology into its service offerings, creating a solution for over 5,500 vessels and 850 customers who rely on the company for reliable communications at sea.
The new LEO-powered connectivity delivers high-speed and low-latency connectivity at sea. LEO satellites orbit at just 1,200 km and, due to their proximity to Earth, enable real-time communication, making them ideal for applications such as video conferencing, voice calls and live data exchange, even from vessels navigating remote oceans.
'This is a game-changer for the maritime sector at large. By integrating OneWeb's LEO satellite service, we can now offer seamless connectivity for ship owners, crew welfare and offshore operations,' said Anshul Khanna, founder & MD, Station Satcom Group.
