Faisalabad Division: Rs48.55bn schemes approved for 7 cities
The proposed schemes involve rehabilitation of streets, link roads, sewage, drains, street lights and parks in Chak Jhumra, Jaranwala, Tandlianwala, Jhang, Kamalia, Toba Tek Singh and Gojra.
It also approved a 10-kilometre extension of the approved sewerage system of Gojra. A steering committee headed by Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq will monitor the entire project.
In this connection, the Minister chaired a meeting on Wednesday; Punjab Local Government Secretary Shakeel Ahmed Mian, Special Secretary Asia Gul, and Additional Secretary Ahmer Kaifi were present, while concerned deputy commissioners and municipal chief officers participated through a video link. Moreover, Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz briefed the meeting minister about the development made so far.
While addressing the meeting, the Minister said that CMPCDP is a unique project under which schemes are being launched in 61 cities from the new financial year. 'In the next phase, the problems of sewage and urban flooding that have existed for decades in over 110 cities will be solved.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered to meet the needs of urban populations until 2050 under this project. For the first time, such a huge investment is being made in cities, which will bring a new beautiful face to Punjab and get rid of dirty streets and expired sewage systems,' he added.

Scope of model village will be expanded: Minister
LAHORE: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is simultaneously focusing on the development of cities and villages and thus the scope of the Punjab Development Programme (PDP) and Model Village will be expanded gradually. He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting held on Wednesday; Additional Secretary Ahmer Kaifi was also present. On this occasion, Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) MD Syed Zahid Aziz briefed about the PDP, while Punjab Rural Municipal Development Company CEO Asadullah gave a briefing regarding the Model Village Programme. The meeting considered various suggestions for taking forward the Chief Minister's Model Village Programme. While addressing the meeting, the Minister said the Punjab government will complete sanitation, drainage and street paving schemes in cities and villages under both projects, adding that the provision of these facilities will improve the standard of living of the citizens. He noted that under the Suthra (Clean) Punjab programme, sanitation facilities are already available in every village. He said that union councils play a fundamental role in providing basic civic services; hence, these will be transformed into service centres across Punjab so that people can get essential services near their homes. He added that, on the special instructions of the Chief Minister, the procedure of birth and death certificates has been further simplified and made more accessible across Punjab; citizens can obtain certificates from home through an app. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Suthra Punjab programme now fully operational: minister
LAHORE: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique said that the Suthra Punjab programme has successfully moved beyond its experimental phase, and he expects that 100 percent results from the waste management companies. He conveyed these remarks while chairing a review meeting on Friday which included Punjab Local Government Secretary Shakeel Ahmed Mian, Special Secretary Asia Gul, and Additional Secretary Ahmer Kaifi. Rafique emphasised the importance of addressing the accumulation of garbage in corners, in addition to the ongoing cleanliness operations in residential areas. He directed officials to improve the waste collection process, stating that it is inadequate to collect garbage only in the morning. He advocated for a model of waste collection that operates twice daily in commercial areas. The Minister stated there will be zero tolerance for any failure to comply with directions issued by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who is currently visiting various districts. He underscored that there is no room for laxity in meeting cleanliness targets and stressed the need for better performance from field monitoring officers. 'The CEOs of waste management companies must leave their offices and conduct frequent visits to the field," he said. He referred to the exemplary measures taken during Eid-ul-Azha and suggested that the same model could be applied on ordinary days for improved results. He also mentioned that villages should be cleaned in a phased manner, and contractors are expected to deploy their full resources to ensure cleanliness in every village. He warned that action would be taken if the villages remained unclean. Recycling of waste part of Suthra Punjab: Minister
LAHORE: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has said that the Suthra Punjab is not just a programme limited to cleanliness, but safe dumping and recycling of waste is a part of it. He was addressing a meeting held on Wednesday which reviewed various schemes for eco-friendly recycling of waste collected under the Suthra Punjab programme. Punjab Local Government Secretary Shakeel Ahmed Mian and Additional Secretary Ahmer Kaifi also attended the meeting. The Minister, while mentioning the losses caused by global climate change, said Pakistan will also claim carbon credits through safe dumping of waste per the Paris agreement. He expressed his determination that an environmental challenge like waste will be converted into a national asset under the waste to value project. He averred that after the approval of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab government will build the country's first recycling park at Lakhodeer, a suburb of Lahore. Annual revenue of Rs 1 billion is expected from the carbon credits of Lakhodeer alone. A plan to generate energy from offal is also under consideration, he said, adding that it is estimated that 1,000 tons of energy will be generated from the waste. Zeeshan Rafique further said that investors will be invited to join this project by organising road shows at home and abroad. 'Offers have also been received to produce biogas and construction bricks from the waste,' he disclosed. 'After Lahore,' he went on, 'waste will be utilised in other cities. The provincial government directed the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) to finalise and submit the details of the road shows so that the next course of action can be considered.'
