Divine Lunga is in line for an extension on his Mamelodi Sundowns contract following his strong showing at the Club World Cup.
The 30-year-old Zimbabwean defender featured in all three matches for Sundowns at the showpiece event, and by all accounts delivered impressive performances.
Since Lunga is now in the optional year of his contract, the timing of his strong play could not be better.
Having first joined Sundowns back in 2021, Lunga was loaned out for the 2022/2023 season to Golden Arrows.

Kaizer Chiefs still want Sundowns striker despite complications

Kaizer Chiefs may have already brought in fresh talent this transfer window, but the club continues to chase more attacking options before the 2025/2026 season kicks off. Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro has emerged as a top priority for the Soweto giants. Ighodaro remains Chiefs' main target Despite several additions to their squad, Amakhosi have not shifted focus from their pursuit of Nigerian forward Etiosa Ighodaro. Chiefs see him as a critical piece to sharpen their frontline, but securing his signature won't come easy. According to a source, everything hinges on Sundowns' willingness to let go of the 24-year-old striker. 'At the moment Chiefs are waiting on Sundowns. Ighodaro has one year remaining on his contract with Sundowns and only if they can release him first as a free agent or if they can buy him from the remaining months on his contract. But Chiefs are interested in him and depending on what Sundowns' decision is then Chiefs would still sign him before the start of the season,' the source revealed. The major obstacle for Kaizer Chiefs lies in negotiating with Sundowns. Ighodaro, who signed a five-year deal in 2021, remains contracted to the Chloorkop club until June 2026. While Sundowns have never fielded him in an official match, they have consistently sent him out on loan, with his most recent stint at AmaZulu FC showcasing his goalscoring potential. Even if Sundowns give the green light, Ighodaro's immigration status might stall the deal. Chiefs must navigate potential visa hurdles before they can officially bring the Nigerian forward into their setup. The transfer saga surrounding Ighodaro highlights Amakhosi's determination to build a potent strike force this season. But legal and contractual roadblocks may delay their plans. Will Ighodaro eventually land at Kaizer Chiefs? Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Ex-Pirates star compares Nkota to Bale

'He's got technique, speed and power and he uses those things every time,' said Vilakazi. Former Orlando Pirates captain and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Benedict 'Tso' Vilakazi has weighed in on Mohau Nkota's high-profile move to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq, where he will line up alongside Dutch international and former Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum. ALSO READ: Midfielder confirms Pirates departure Vilakazi, speaking on iDiskiTV, praised Nkota's attacking qualities and even likened the 20-year-old winger to former Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale, citing his technical ability, pace, and power. 'Nkota … reminds me of Gareth Bale' 'What I like about Nkota is that he reminds me of Gareth Bale because he knows that he's got technique, speed and power and he uses those things every time,' said Vilakazi. 'He will run down the opponent and cut in to use his technique and power. It's a blessing in disguise for him to go there because he will play against the likes of Ronaldo and big guns that have won things. 'The knowledge you will get by rubbing shoulders against people that have won World Cups and Champions Leagues like Cristiano and Sadio Mané because they are there.' Nkota enjoyed a breakout season with the Buccaneers, making 39 appearances and registering 12 goal contributions. However, Vilakazi believes the Soweto giants have already prepared for his departure by signing Bafana Bafana international Oswin Appollis from Polokwane City ahead of the 2025–26 Betway Premiership campaign. 'Well done to the boy and I wish him all the best overseas even though there will be those questions as to why Saudi Arabia and not go to Portugal or Spain,' Vilakazi concluded. 'Pirates won't suffer that much' 'But when you are overseas, you are in an environment where everyone can see you. That's why Pirates bought Appollis because I think they knew they were going to lose one player between (Relebohile) Mofokeng and Nkota. ALSO READ: Chiefs remain silent on striker transfer leak 'Pirates won't suffer that much because he (Nkota) came in and he was not really a regular at Pirates but when he came in, he always did well and put the team ahead so I would just wish him all the best.'
