Liaquat Bagh echoes with patriotism
A thanksgiving rally was organised by the district administration at Liaquat Bagh to celebrate Pakistan's historic military success and its strong response to Indian aggression.
The rally quickly transformed into a large public gathering, attended by Rawalpindi Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and other senior officials. A significant number of political leaders, youth, traders, lawyers, civil society members, and citizens participated in the event. The crowd danced to the beat of drums, and chants of "Long Live Pakistan" echoed throughout Liaquat Bagh.
Addressing the rally, PML-N leader Tahira Aurangzeb said that from Karachi to Khyber, the nation stands united with the armed forces. She praised Army Chief General Asim Munir for giving India a befitting response that, according to her, will be remembered for generations. "Whether it was 1965 or 1971, we always salute our armed forces," she added, emphasising that all political parties must unite. She clarified that Pakistan had no connection with the Pahalgam incident, stating that the Indian military action was responded to appropriately by Pakistan's forces.
General (retd) Abdul Qayyum, President of the Ex-Servicemen Society, also addressed the gathering. He lauded the Pakistani troops for crushing India's dream of "Akhand Bharat" and stated that those speaking against the nation and its military had faced disappointment. "There are good people in India too, but they are misled by Indian media," he said, adding that the courage and sacrifice of Pakistani soldiers had shown the world the spirit of true martyrdom.
General (retd) Qayyum recalled how Indian forces attacked Kashmir after Pakistan's creation, and how Pakistani soldiers, including the martyr Major Aziz Bhatti, defended the nation in the 1965 and 1971 wars.
He also mentioned Pakistan's nuclear tests in 1999 under the former Prime Minister, attributing the achievement to the collective resolve of the nation. "From every section of society, there are patriots ready to sacrifice their lives for the country," he declared.
He further stated that when India acquired Rafale jets, Pakistan's response with PL-15 missiles shook their confidence. He praised the media for presenting Pakistan's stance with dignity, especially in light of Indian actions like supporting BLA in Balochistan, launching Kulbhushan Jadhav, attacking the Samjhauta Express, and targeting Pakistani soldiers in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
He said the current conflict isn't just with India, but with broader adversaries including Zionist forces. "Israeli drones were seen, and their agents were even present in Srinagar. This is a defeat for Hindutva and Zionism, which they will not easily accept," he said, adding that even the US, Europe, and France acknowledge the developments from the battlefield. "France is mourning the loss of its Rafale jets," he added.
He urged people not to fear, quoting the Holy Quran: "Victory is yours, as long as your faith is strong." He affirmed Pakistan's commitment to the United Nations and the Vienna Convention, and said Pakistan must continue to stand with the oppressed people of Kashmir and Palestine.
The event at Liaquat Bagh was a major show of solidarity and celebration. Children, elders, students, traders, lawyers, and citizens turned out in large numbers.

NEW DELHI: An Indian parliamentary committee on aviation has warned that staffing shortages at the country's air safety regulator and lack of air traffic controllers pose a threat to safety in one of the world's fastest growing aviation markets. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is grappling 'with a profound and persistent shortage of technical and regulatory personnel,' with almost half of its posts unfilled, the committee said in a report on Wednesday. Lawmakers were reviewing aviation safety in India in the aftermath of the deadly Air India Boeing Dreamliner crash that killed 260 people in June, the world's worst aviation disaster in a decade. A few days before the crash, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed an annual global meeting of airlines in New Delhi, underscoring how India is banking on a boom in aviation to support wider development goals. Staffing shortages at the DGCA were 'an existential threat to the integrity of India's aviation safety system,' said the transport, tourism and culture committee report that also followed several helicopter accidents in northern India. India aviation watchdog finds 263 lapses at Indian airlines in annual audit It said the root of the crisis lay in an outdated recruitment model under which a recruitment agency hires personnel on behalf of the DGCA. The civil aviation ministry, which houses the regulator, has described the process as 'slow and inflexible,' according to the report and the DGCA faces a challenge in attracting and retaining highly skilled professionals. The parliamentary committee recommended launching a focused recruitment campaign and suggested a new regulatory authority could be created to replace the DGCA. The committee also said India's air traffic controllers were under immense pressure due to staffing shortages caused by failures in workforce planning. Some air traffic controllers were not adequately trained, the committee added. The report criticised the Airports Authority of India and the DGCA for a 'deeply troubling practice' of not following duty time limitations for the controllers, saying that raised the risk of fatigue and increased the chances of a controller error.

Israel approves plan to conquer Gaza City, calls up reservists
OCCUPIED JERUSALEM: Israel's defence minister approved a plan on Wednesday for the conquest of Gaza City and authorised the call-up of around 60,000 reservists, piling pressure on Hamas as mediators push for a ceasefire. Defence Minister Israel Katz's move, confirmed to AFP by a spokesperson, came as mediators awaited an official Israeli response on their latest proposal. While mediator Qatar had expressed guarded optimism over the latest proposal, a senior Israeli official said the government stood firm on its call for the release of all hostages in any agreement. The framework that Hamas had approved proposes an initial 60-day truce, a staggered hostage release, the freeing of some Palestinian prisoners and provisions allowing for the entry of aid into Gaza. On the ground in Gaza City on Wednesday, Mustafa Qazzaat, head of the emergency committee in the Gaza municipality, described the situation as 'catastrophic'. He told AFP that 'large numbers' of people were fleeing their neighbourhoods, with the majority of those displaced 'on the roads and streets without shelter.' Aida Abu Madi, a 48-year-old resident of Zeitoun, said she fled on Wednesday with her husband, children and three grandchildren to the home of relatives in western Gaza City. 'I didn't hear about Israel's decision, but I saw my neighbours fleeing, so I fled too,' she told AFP by telephone. Anis Daloul, 64, said he fled Zeitoun with his family on Sunday for a neighbourhood northwest of Gaza City. Katz's approval of plans to conquer Gaza City came days after Hamas said it had accepted the latest proposal from mediators for a ceasefire to halt almost two years of devastating war. Gaza's civil defence agency said Israeli strikes and fire killed at least 25 people across the territory on Wednesday. When contacted by AFP, the Israeli military asked for coordinates and specific timeframes to comment on the reports, but said it would look into reports of eight people killed by Israeli fire near an aid site in the centre of Gaza. Media restrictions in Gaza and difficulties accessing swathes of the Palestinian territory mean AFP is unable to independently verify the tolls and details provided by the civil defence agency or the Israeli military.
