A court in Rewa in Madhya Pradesh gave "benefit of doubt" and acquitted three persons in connection with the 2006 Govindgarh bus tragedy in which more than 60 occupants of the vehicle were killed.On October 19, 2006, the bus with registration number MKA 3163 plunged into Govindgarh pond when it was on its way to Rewa from Jigna. Among those killed was the driver.Judicial Magistrate First Class Panna Nagesh on Friday acquitted Ajay Pratap Singh (52), Ramesh Tiwari (42) and Shriniwas Tiwari (60), the owner and conductors of the bus, due to lack of evidence.The court observed that it could not be proved with the prosecution's evidence that the bus was being driven rashly and recklessly at the time of the incident.Furthermore, the driver of the bus too had died in the accident, the court pointed out."Under these circumstances, it could not be found that the accused had any role in running the bus without registration on the day of the accident," the court said while acquitting the trio under Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act.Their lawyer Rajiv Singh Shera said the prosecution failed to prove whether the bus had valid fitness and permit documents."As a result, the court acquitted the owner and conductors," he said.

It came days after the Supreme Court allowed the producer to approach the police and seek protection as he alleged a threat to his life. The film was released across India on Friday, August 8, after the Delhi High Court on Thursday gave the go-ahead. It was initially slated for release on July 11, but faced many delays due to censorship and legal troubles. The movie is based on the 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor, who was brutally killed in broad daylight in his shop in Udaipur, Rajasthan, by two men for allegedly sharing a social media post in support of former BJP member Nupur Sharma following her controversial comments on Prophet Mohammed during a debate show on a private news channel. According to police reports from 2022, the prime accused, Mohammad Riaz Attari and Ghaus Mohammad, entered Lal's shop pretending to get clothes stitched before attacking him with a knife and slitting his throat. They recorded the brutal murder and circulated the video on social media, claiming responsibility for the heinous act, which triggered national outrage and raised serious concerns about radicalisation and communal violence. The accused were booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, besides provisions under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Initially, the case was probed by the Rajasthan police, but later the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over it. The trial is pending before the special NIA court in Jaipur. Morbi man gets 10 years for abetting wife's suicide
Rajkot: A Morbi sessions court has sentenced one Dharmendra alias Raju Popat (46) to 10 years in prison for abetting the suicide of his wife, Lalita. Sessions judge P V Shrivastav acquitted three co-accused — Dharmendra's mother Ranjan, brother Rahul, and sister Chandni — giving them the benefit of the doubt. According to the case details, Dharmendra and Lalita had a love marriage. On May 26, 2018, Lalita died after jumping in the path of a train, near Navlakhi Road. Her brother filed a police complaint alleging she was being harassed because the couple had no children. Public prosecutor Vijay Jani told the court that one day before her death, Lalita had filed a complaint at the Mahila police station in Morbi, accusing Dharmendra of harassment. He also argued that Dharmendra was involved with another woman and wanted to marry her, which drove Lalita to end her life. The defence alleged the case was motivated by the victim's family's opposition to the marriage, but could not substantiate the claim.
