Xbox cloud games will soon follow you across Xbox, PC, and Windows handhelds
Microsoft is starting to test updates to the Xbox PC app and Xbox consoles that will allow cloud games to follow you across devices. A new play history section of the Xbox PC app and Xbox console home UI will also display cloud games as part of the recently played titles list and this will follow you across Xbox consoles, PCs, and handhelds. Cloud-playable games are now starting to show inside play history or the library on the Xbox PC app. 'This includes all cloud playable titles, even console exclusives spanning from the original Xbox to Xbox Series X|S, whether you own the title or access it through Game Pass,' explains Lily Wang, product manager of Xbox experiences. Your recent games, including cloud ones, will soon follow you across devices, too. So if you played an Xbox game on your console that's not natively available on PC, it will still show up in your recent games list and be playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming on Windows. Cloud-playable games on the Xbox PC app can be found from a new filter in the library section, and a new 'play history' section will appear at the end of the jump back in list on the home screen of the Xbox PC app. 'While the large tiles highlight games you've recently played on your current device, the play history tile shows games you've played across any Xbox device, making it easy to pick up where you left off,' says Wang. This same play history section will appear on the main Xbox console interface, too — which could mean we'll eventually see PC games listed here and playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Microsoft currently uses the chips from Xbox Series X to power special server blades for Xbox Cloud Gaming, but internal emails in the FTC v. Microsoft case in 2023 revealed that Microsoft has been investigating streaming PC games over the cloud. With Microsoft moving Xbox and PC closer together for its next-gen consoles, I'm expecting to see Xbox Cloud Gaming support PC games and provide better bitrates and resolutions, too.

Microsoft Gets Out of the Movie and TV Business: How to Save Everything You Bought
After almost two decades, Microsoft is finally exiting the movie and TV distribution business. Going forward, Microsoft will no longer offer new movies or TV shows for purchase on the Microsoft Store on Windows, or the Microsoft Store on Xbox. Users are not eligible for refunds on content they've already bought, with Microsoft pointing to the Microsoft Store's Terms of Sale. However, you can continue to access content you've previously purchased in the Movies & TV app on your Xbox or Windows devices. Microsoft also says it will continue providing tech support for any film and TV content you've already purchased through its official stores. The good news is that if you're in the US, you can sign up for the Movies Anywhere platform to connect your Microsoft-purchased movies with other Movies Anywhere retailers, including iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu, and Comcast's Xfinity. Launched in 2014, Movies Anywhere is a cloud-based digital rights locker and streaming platform that allows users to stream, download and store movies they've purchased elsewhere. Microsoft didn't provide any details about what motivated its decision to shut down the storefront, but the move shouldn't come as a huge surprise. Though it remains an unavoidable player in the world of video games, Microsoft has already shut down most of its platforms providing traditional media content. Microsoft Groove, which started life as Zune Music, was discontinued in 2017 after struggling to compete with rivals like Spotify, Google Play Music, and Apple's iTunes. If you're interested in moving your media library to Movies Anywhere, head to its website or open the Movies Anywhere app, available on the App Store or Google Play. In the mobile app, tap your profile picture, then tap the Settings (gear) icon. If you're using the website, click the arrow next to your profile name and select Settings. Then choose Manage Retailers, and tap Connect next to the digital retailer you want to link. You'll be directed to Microsoft to complete the process—just follow the on-screen instructions to connect your accounts. Once you're done, return to Movies Anywhere to confirm that your accounts are connected. Unfortunately, it's important to note that not all major streaming platforms are integrated with Movies Anywhere. If your preferred platform is Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Max, Paramount+, or Peacock, you might have to settle for your second choice when exporting your Microsoft library.

So if you have anything against Barney or Big Bird, you can take out your feelings on them with this game. Back to the Dawn Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers can play now. This game is like if the series Prison Break took place in the Zootopia universe. You'll play as either a fox named Thomas or a black panther named Bob as they try to navigate the prison system and escape with their lives. With multiple escape routes and over 100 quests you can complete, you can replay this game numerous times and have a different experience each time. Abiotic Factor Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers can play on July 22. Science meets violence in this 1990s-inspired sci-fi survival game. You and up to five other players can choose your areas of expertise, build your scientist and explore a massive, top-secret underground complex filled with artifacts and supernatural horrors that could tear you limb from limb. And remember, safety, security and secrecy are of the utmost importance… usually. Wheel World Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers can play on July 23. If you want to take a nice, relaxing bike ride, this game is for you. Previously known as Ghost Bike, this game puts you behind the handlebars of one of the last ghost bikes around. These bikes can traverse between the lands of the living and the dead. You can explore these lands at your leisure while you race other riders and upgrade your ride with treasures you find along the way. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers can play on July 24. This souls-like RPG is set during the final days of the Ming Dynasty. You play as an amnesiac pirate warrior named Wuchang on a quest to uncover the truth behind a world full of chaos. You'll fight monstrous creatures in forgotten temples and overgrown ruins, unlock new weapons and master devastating techniques in order to bring peace to yourself and others. Grounded 2 (game preview) Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers can play on July 29. You've been shrunk to the size of an ant -- again -- and you'll have to survive the dangerous, miniature world. You'll fight spiders and wasps, craft weapons and homes and even ride on your own insect friends to get around. You'll unravel new mysteries along the way, but be careful. Something else is out there, and it hasn't forgotten about you. Farming Simulator 25 Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass and Game Pass Standard subscribers can play on Aug. 1. Farming isn't always as simple as games like Stardew Valley might make it out to be, but it can still be very rewarding. If you want a taste of what goes into building and maintaining your own farm, give Farming Simulator 25 a try. You'll grow diverse crops, raise different animals and with the weather-changing, ground-deforming atmosphere, you'll face all kinds of challenges along the way. Games leaving Game Pass on July 31 While Microsoft is adding those games to Game Pass soon, it's also removing three other games on July 31. So you still have some time to finish your campaign or complete any side quests before you have to buy these games separately.
