Elena Gallegos was born in 1680 and married Frenchman Jacques Grolet in 1699. After her husband's death, Gallegos started to manage her own business affairs operating a ranch, and eventually becoming the first woman to acquire her own livestock brand.
In 1716, she purchased 7,000 aces of land which would become the Elena Gallegos land grant. In 1969, Albuquerque City Council agreed to enact a tax so it could purchase the land, save it from development and create an open space.

New Mexico launches energy efficiency loan program
NEW MEXICO (KRQE) — Companies and nonprofits can now get help from the state to become energy efficient. The Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department has launched a new program providing low-interest loans worth $250,000 to $1 million dollars. The program offers loans at a fixed rate of 2% to cover energy efficiency upgrades such as smart thermostats, new HVAC systems, insulation, air sealing, lighting, and building envelope improvements. 'This loan fund is one more way we are supporting Gov. Lujan Grisham's goal of boosting NewMexico's economy while also protecting its environment,' said EMNRD Sec. MelanieKenderdine. 'These loans will ensure the recipients' economic viability by lowering the costsfor building upgrades while simultaneously reducing their carbon footprints.' Eligible organizations include nonprofit or for-profit entities owning or operating commercial buildings that serve a public service, such as education, recreation, healthcare or cultural services. Crystal Palace have initiated contract negotiations with striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, according to BBC Sport. The 27-year-old Frenchman, whose current deal runs until June 2027 following a recent 12-month extension, has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Olympique Marseille this summer. With a strong physical presence, sharp positioning, and vastly improved finishing, Mateta has become almost indispensable for Palace.
