World's richest footballer is worth £20billion – 40 times more than David and Victoria Beckham

Sir David Beckham's long-awaited Knighthood has further solidified his standing as a beloved national figure, recognised for his services to charity and to sport.
The 50-year-old, together with his wife Victoria, has constructed an empire that reaches well beyond football, with their combined wealth estimated at £500million, according to The Sunday Times Rich List.
However, this figure is dwarfed by the astonishing fortune of Faiq Bolkiah, the world's wealthiest footballer, whose net worth is reported to be around £20billion - approximately 40 times that of the Beckhams.
Bolkiah, a 27-year-old winger who was once part of Chelsea's academy, is a member of the Brunei Royal family. His vast wealth primarily stems from his familial ties as the nephew of the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah.
Unlike Beckham, whose wealth originates from a distinguished career with Manchester United, Real Madrid and numerous profitable endorsements, Bolkiah's fortune is largely inherited.
The Brunei Royal family's extensive assets include oil and gas reserves, luxury properties, and investments that surpass the earnings of even the most successful athletes.

While Bolkiah's football career has brought him modest earnings, his Royal status situates him in a financial league all his own. In contrast, the Beckhams have carefully amassed their wealth through football, fashion, and media endeavours, reports the Mirror.
Beckham's illustrious career, which boasts 115 caps for England and numerous league titles, set the stage. His ventures post-retirement, including co-ownership of Inter Miami and securing lucrative sponsorships with brands such as Adidas and Haig Club, have significantly amplified their wealth.

Victoria's fashion empire, especially her namesake label, has contributed further millions to their fortune. The couple's business savvy is evident in their £70m in company assets and £40m in dividends over recent years.
However, Bolkiah operates on a different level. His wealth affords him a lifestyle that includes private jets and supercars, making the Beckhams' collection of Bentleys and Range Rovers appear modest in comparison.
While Beckham and his wife Victoria's property portfolio, encompassing a Notting Hill townhouse, a Cotswolds mansion and a Miami penthouse, is impressive, Bolkiah's access to grand residences across Brunei and beyond is unmatched.

Despite his immense wealth, Bolkiah maintains a relatively low profile in football, concentrating on his career in Thailand and with the Brunei national team rather than pursuing global fame.
He currently plays for Ratchaburi, having transferred from fellow Thai League 1 club Chonburi in 2023. Before this, he was signed to Portuguese club Maritimo, but never made a senior appearance for the team.
Bolkiah spent most of his youth career in England, initially with Southampton, then Chelsea and later Leicester. However, he was unable to secure a professional contract despite being an international footballer (he's earned six caps for Brunei) since 2016.

Arsenal told to sign Manchester United transfer target instead of Chelsea flop
Mikel Arteta has been told to bring a former Arsenal star back to the club rather than signing Chelsea flop Kepa Arrizabalaga. Arsenal are close to signing Kepa, once the most expensive goalkeeper in the world, for just £5m. Chelsea spent a record-breaking £72m to sign Kepa from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 but the Spain international struggled at Stamford Bridge. Kepa spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and is now set to join Arsenal as Arteta's No. 2 behind David Raya. Neto performed that role for the Gunners last season but he has returned to Bournemouth following the end of his loan spell. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. Ex-Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has questioned the club's move for Kepa, however, and believes Arteta should instead welcome Emiliano Martinez back to the club. Arsenal sold Martinez to Aston Villa in 2020 and have watched the Argentine become one of the best goalkeepers on the planet and a World Cup winner. The 32-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Villa Park this summer with Manchester United interested in a deal. But Petit wants Arsenal to make a move for Martinez and says he would bring an 'important mentality' to a Gunners squad in desperate need of a trophy next season. 'Since Kepa Arrizabalaga's move to Chelsea, it has been a nightmare for him,' Petit told talksportBET. 'He went to Real Madrid and it didn't go well, he went to Bournemouth and wasn't the first choice to begin with but did end up doing quite well. 'For Bournemouth is one thing, but for the biggest clubs in the world you have to have the right mentality, especially as a goalkeeper. 'I think Arsenal need a goalkeeper who can, not replace David Raya because he has done well, but can give them another option. 'If I was Arsenal I'd go for Emiliano Martinez, look at what he has done with Argentina and Aston Villa. 'I didn't like his behaviour when he played against PSG, but he has a winning mentality and that would be important for Arsenal. 'He has that nastiness that is important in winning teams, it inspires other players. 'Arsenal are all Mr Nice Guys at the moment, 25 years ago when we were winning trophies there were some nasty boys in there, but had that winning mentality. Arsenal need that.' While Arsenal chase Kepa, ex-Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has questioned why the Blues would sanction the transfer. 'I'm confused. I don't understand,' Wright-Phillips told Betway when asked abut Kepa's imminent move to the Emirates Stadium. Kepa (Atletico Bilbao to Chelsea), £72m Alisson (Roma to Liverpool, £67m Gianluigi Buffon (Parma to Juventus), £50m Andre Onana (Inter Milan to Manchester United), £47m Ederson (Benfica to Manchester City), £35m 'It's like nobody's been watching Kepa this season. He's been unbelievable. He is part of the reason why Bournemouth finished where they finished. 'The defence was outstanding, but Kepa was unbelievable, as well, I thought. 'I assumed while the season was going on that Chelsea didn't need to buy a goalkeeper because Kepa was going back anyway, but that isn't to be the case. 'You can have as good a goalkeeper as you want, but if you're still going to make the same mistakes in defence, your goalkeeper is still going to concede. More Trending 'That's just the fact of the matter. [Liverpool goalkeeper] Alisson pulls off amazing saves when he's needed. Half the time he has to pull off a save, it's not forced errors. 'So if Chelsea can get their defence like that, where they're not making him make unnecessary saves he shouldn't have to make, then I think Kepa is your man to keep. You don't need to forage around. 'Most managers now are looking for goalkeepers that are good with their feet. I think Kepa's alright with his feet, but he might not be at the level they want him to be. 'But for me, it's a real strange one.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Chelsea make £30m transfer bid for former Real Madrid defender
Chelsea have made a 35m euros (£30m) bid for former Real Madrid defender Mario Gila, according to reports in Italy. Gila, 24, spent three years in Real Madrid's reserve team before making his first-team debut for Los Blancos during the 2021-22 campaign. The former Spain U21 star only made one more appearance for Real Madrid, however, before being sold to Lazio in the summer of 2022. Lazio spent £5m to sign Gila from Real Madrid and the centre-back has been a mainstay in the team over the past two seasons. Gila made over 40 appearances last season as Lazio finished seventh in Serie A and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri, who previously managed Chelsea, does not want to lose the Spaniard this summer but a number of clubs are interested in a deal. Italian outlet Il Messaggero say Chelsea, Tottenham, Bournemouth and PSG have all expressed interest in signing Gila. They also claim that Chelsea have already made an offer worth £30m, which was quickly rejected by Lazio. Lazio are also believed to have rejected a £35m bid from Bournemouth but will be prepared to sell if they receive an offer in the region of £50m. Gila is yet to represent Spain but was included in the senior squad for their Nations League quarter-final against Netherlands earlier in the year. Enzo Maresca's side finished fourth in the Premier League to qualify for next year's Champions League and won the Conference League. The Blues have already signed £30m striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and welcomed Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr to Stamford Bridge after sealing their signatures earlier in the year. More Trending Chelsea are keen to sign another forward – either a striker of a winger – as well as more defenders. The west London club were in advanced talks to sign French goalkeeper Mike Maigan from AC Milan but the deal collapsed over the asking price. Chelsea are also open to offers for a number of unwanted players, including Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku. Following a brief opening earlier in the month, the summer transfer window re-opens on Monday and shuts again on September 1. For more stories like this, check our sport page.
