Cocky Connecticut town thinks it can break ‘largest pizza party' world record: ‘We want a legitimate win'
New Haven is setting out to break the Guinness World Record for the largest pizza party — a title that was previously set by the World Pizza Champions in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Jan. 21, 2023, as reported by NBC News.
To break the record, the pizza extravaganza would have to have more than the previous 3,357 people — which was the previous winning number. New Haven is aiming to get 5,000 people to their party.

The pizza party will take place on Friday, Sept. 12, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the A-1 Toyota Apizza Feast at the New Haven Grand Prix.
The city of New Haven is handling the logistics of the big bash while Big Green Truck Pizza will take care of the grub.
'We plan on bringing four of our trucks, lining them up and feeding everybody,' Liane Page with Big Green Truck Pizza told NBC Connecticut.

Once pizza lovers enter the party, the rules stipulate that they must stay until the end of the event at 7 p.m. so they can finish the count.
By the time the party wraps up, the event organizers hope to announce that the attempt 'has been successful, cheer, and open up the fencing so all can move around freely,' the website said.
New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker believes they will go way over the 3,357 people needed to break the record.

'When we plant our stake in the ground — and have the largest pizza party in history, we are going to crush that, yes,' he said. 'We want a legitimate win here.'
3 Liane Page said there's nothing like New Haven-style 'apizza.'

A judge from Guinness World Records will be in attendance to make sure the city is complying with the rules to break the record. The city is also looking for volunteers to help keep count and make sure the event is going smoothly.

'We do great things here and it takes a big group effort but this is serious, this is like playing a pizza game, and if you want to participate, we want you to take this serious,' Colin Caplan, creator of Taste Of New Haven, said.
The city estimates that they will hand out more than 10,000 slices, and about 400 people at a time will be eating pizza.
Page said there's nothing like New Haven-style 'apizza' — and some have gone as far as to declare Connecticut the 'Pizza Capital of the U.S.'
Frank Pepe's, a New Haven, Connecticut, favorite, just celebrated its 100th anniversary — and locals and New Yorkers alike can't get enough.
'When I would serve the New Yorkers at our New Haven restaurant, they would tell me, 'I'm from New York, and I come back and forth for your pizza — hands down,'' Pepe's granddaughter, Jennifer Bimonte-Kelly, previously told The Post.
'New Yorkers are the toughest critics. When they said it was good, I got chills on my legs.'
Those who want to get their hands on a New Haven slice and participate in the record-breaking pizza party can buy a ticket for $17.44 ($12.12 for kids.
With a ticket, you'll get access to the party, two slices of pizza, a water, a drink ticket. Ticket holders will also get early access to the Apizza Feast — and 'you also will get to be part of pizza history.'

Lady Gaga Reaches An Important Milestone For The First Time In Her Career
'Die With a Smile' doesn't sound quite like anything else in the discographies of either Lady Gaga or Bruno Mars. Both artists have looked to the past for inspiration before, but neither of them had encapsulated the exact feeling that the Grammy-winning smash conveys. Mars has come close with several of his vintage-sounding tunes, but the inclusion of a female voice makes 'Die With a Smile' not just different from the two stars' past work, but something truly special. In America, 'Die With a Smile' is still a massive hit, and this week both musicians must be celebrating its continued success as the track reaches a notable milestone. 'Die With a Smile' Finishes Its First Year As of this current period, 'Die With a Smile' has spent a full year on the Hot 100. This week marks its fifty-second on the ranking of the most consumed songs in the U.S. 'Die With a Smile' Slipped Outside the Top 10 Recently The track only recently fell outside of the top 10, where it had been living as it approached its first anniversary. This frame, the duet holds at No. 12, sitting just below the important tier. Lady Gaga's First One-Year Winner 'Die With a Smile' is Gaga's first song to make it to 52 weeks on the Hot 100. The tune became her longest-running success almost a month ago when it passed 'Just Dance,' her collaboration with Colby O'Donis, which introduced her to the world and helped reinvigorate interest in dance-pop well over a decade ago. That smash spent 49 weeks on the Hot 100 during its run. 'Die With a Smile' Remains a Radio Smash Radio is doing most of the work to keep 'Die With a Smile' on the Hot 100 and in such a lofty position. The track does fall slightly on the Radio Songs chart, dipping from No. 3 to No. 5, but that's still an impressive position for a title that has now racked up 52 stays on the all-genre airplay list. 'Die With a Smile' is a non-mover on both the Adult Pop Airplay and Adult Contemporary rankings, where it holds at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. The Gaga/Mars hit single also makes it to 52 weeks on both of those lists. Will 'Die With a Smile' Slip Off the List Soon? Now that 'Die With a Smile' has made it to a full year on the Hot 100, it has to stay above No. 25, or else it will be removed. Billboard has a rule in place that states that after 52 weeks, tunes can't slip beneath that position. That's not a problem for most songs, which never make it to the landmark figure, and 'Die With a Smile' likely doesn't have to worry just yet, as it could continue to sit below the top 10—or even return to the highest area again—for several more weeks.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword might be a more forgiving kind of samurai epic
Capcom's Onimusha series has been on a long hiatus. Combining Resident Evil-style rendered backgrounds with more agile characters, adding in demons, magic and a feudal Japan setting, the series span multiple sequels — and consoles — til the fourth entry in 2006. Roughly two decades (and console eras) later, Capcom has returned to the series, even getting the definitive samurai actor, Tom Cruise Mifune Toshiro, to play the hero, the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. At Gamescom, the company is now demoing an early slice of Way of the Sword, which covers most (but not all) of the game shown at SGF 2025 just a few months ago. It's an interesting time to return to the samurai-meets-demonic-threat universe of Onimusha, following a sudden boom in games tapping into feudal Japan. Most recently, the latest Assassin's Creed was set there, while, Sony's upcoming Ghost of Yotei (not to mention its predecessor) both tap bushido and swordplay in historical Japan. While I played through the demo, I made a lot of mental comparisons to Sekiro – a game that's now several years old and still unbeaten by me. Onimusha draws together similar themes of demon forces run amok, but has a more forgiving approach. Gameplay centers around blocks and parries, plus weak and strong attacks, all while pulling in orbs dropped by dying enemies that act as the game's currency. (Health orbs are also dropped by certain foes.) Onimusha Way of the Sword hands-on (Capcom) The Oni gauntlet that absorbs these souls can also be used to see invisible demons and unlock areas that are spiritually blocked. It'll also act like a sort-of demonic movie projector, showing what happened during the demon invasion in the area. Early enemies were predictably sluggish demon swordsmen and archers, getting me back up to speed with how Onimusha fights play out. Even if it predictably looks lightyears ahead of its predecessors, Way of the Sword doesn't reinvent how you cut up these demon hordes. In comparison to other action games, guarding seems very forgiving. You can hold the guard button down, and it'll block basic projectiles and melee attacks from all directions I spent some time leaning into exhausting stamina gauges, timing parries for one-hit Issen critical attack and batting away arrows back where they came from. Don't get me wrong, it's satisfying and fun, but I'm itching to see how the series will build on what's pretty basic attack flow. Musashi had acccess to a dual-short sword special attack, Two Celestials, that barrages the enemy with attacks and tops up his health levels. This suggests more special attacks and magical flourishes should open up later in the game. The preview during SGF 2025 also showed ways to utilize the environment for defensive attacks, holding up wooden boards to block arrows, for instance, although that didn't trigger during my playthrough. Onimusha Way of the Sword hands-on (Capcom) The highlight of the demo was a confrontation with Musashi's rival, Ganryu Sasaki. He's great villain fodder — and has also been somehow gifted his own Oni gauntlet. The duel was the only time I felt under threat during the demo, and even then, I didn't die once. There's enough of a health meter to test yourself against Sasaki's lavish sword attacks and lunges. Once you wear down more powerful enemies, you can make a single, concentrated attack to either glean more orbs from them or hit for heavy-duty damage. The early taste of Way of the Sword is a fun, easy romp, so I'm curious to see how Capcom evolves the formula of Onimusha — and where the true challenges might lie. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to be released in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC.
