Chris Brown's entourage arrives at court as singer remanded in custody
Singer Chris Brown has appeared in court after he was arrested following an alleged assault in a London nightclub two years ago as he arrived to Manchester on a private jet
Chris Brown has appeared in court after he was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. He was arrested at a five-star hotel in Manchester over an alleged assault in a London club.
The singer, 36, had arrived into Manchester on a private jet on Wednesday afternoon. He was staying at The Lowry Hotel when the Metropolitan Police arrested him shortly after 2am on Thursday.
Brown was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm at nightclub in the capital in 2023. His entourage, who delivered KFC to Brown at the police station last night, appeared outside the court today.
In court, Brown has been remanded in custody until June 13 by a judge in Manchester over an allegation of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
After discovering Brown was in the country, Metropolitan Police detectives then travelled to Manchester where they arrested him. The Met spokesman said: 'A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains.
"The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.''
On Thursday evening, Adele Kelly, the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, said: 'We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown, 36, with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
'The alleged incident occurred in London on February 19 2023. He will have his first court appearance on Friday May 16 at Manchester Magistrates' Court.
'The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.
'It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.'
Brown is set to play ten shows across the UK and Ireland in June and July for his 2025 Breezy Bowl XX tour, which starts in Manchester and ends back in the city. He is due to perform in Cardiff, London, Birmingham, Dublin and Glasgow.
In February, he won his second Grammy after 20 years. He won Best R&B Album for his work on B11:11, outshining Muni Long's Public Displays of Affection. Lucky Daye's Candydrip, Usher's My Way and Lalah Hathaway's self-titled album.
Despite three nominations at this year's Grammys, Brown only secured the one trophy. He had previously won in the same category for his album FA.M.E. at the 54th Grammy Awards.
Brown made sure to celebrate his Grammy achievement as he took to social media to declare: "WE DID IT! ! ! ! ! ! !"

Roughly a whopping 800 Europeans are on the list of potential Guantanamo detainees - including British and French citizens, the Washington Post reports. Currently roughly 500 migrants have been held at the jail dubbed "Gitmo" for short periods of time in the past few months. According to the Trump administration, it works as a pit stop on the way to being deported to the country those being held came from. The bombshell move represents the administration's further toughening on immigration policy. Critics say the Guantanamo threat works to deter new illegal immigrants from entering the US whilst also encouraging those already in the country to self-deport. The Sun visits Guantanamo Bay One State Department official told Politico: "The message is to shock and horrify people, to upset people - but we're allies." But the deportation plans don't come without legal challenges. A court in Washington is considering a plea to outlaw the use of Guantanamo to house migrants as the American Civil Liberties Union claims they are being held in horrific conditions. Detainees are apparently kept in a rat-infested camp, served inadequate food and denied the weekly change of clothing. Detainees once endured sleep deprivation, waterboarding, and extreme temperature exposure as part of the CIA's 'enhanced interrogation' program. One of the most infamous detainees, Abu Zubaydah, was waterboarded 83 times and kept in a coffin-sized box for hours on end. While the camp once held nearly 800 suspected terrorists, that number has dwindled to just 15, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 terror attacks. The US Justice Department vehemently denied the claim, telling the court that Guantanamo is solely used as a temporary stop. Nine Brit citizens were previously held in Guantanamo in 2004, of which five were repatriated. And nine more people who had residency status in the UK but not citizenship were also held at the camp. Trump's border czar Tom Homan previously said the administration would expand the capacity of the hellhole facility. He said: "We're just going to expand upon that existing migrant center." Meanwhile Noem shared images of migrants arriving at the Guantanamo facility. She wrote on social media: "President Donald Trump has been very clear: Guantanamo Bay will hold the worst of the worst. "That starts today." The prison has cost US taxpayers over $6 billion to operate, with an annual budget of $540 million — roughly $13 million per prisoner. A dedicated medical wing, staffed by doctors, psychiatrists, and even dentists, exists to prevent detainees from dying in custody, ensuring they remain locked away indefinitely. What is Guantanamo Bay? By Juliana Cruz Lima, Foreign News Reporter GUANTANAMO Bay has long been synonymous with human rights abuses, indefinite detention, and controversial interrogation techniques. First opened in 2002 by George W. Bush in the wake of 9/11, the high-security facility became a legal black hole. There, suspects could be held without trial, subjected to brutal conditions, and interrogated using 'enhanced techniques'—a euphemism for torture. The prison complex, located on Cuban soil but under US control, is a fortress of isolation. Guard towers loom over the razor-wire fences, motion-activated searchlights sweep the perimeter, and cameras monitor every inch of the facility. Inside, detainees — most clad in orange jumpsuits — have spent decades in concrete cells measuring just 6.8 square feet, often with nothing but a thin mattress, a metal toilet, and a small slit for daylight. Prisoners have been force-fed through nasal tubes during hunger strikes, shackled in stress positions for hours, and subjected to psychological torment. Prisoners are separated into camps based on their perceived threat level. David Byrne announces Glasgow shows on new world tour
The touring band will comprise 13 musicians, singers and dancers, including members of the American Utopia band, all of whom will be mobile throughout the set. The North American tour begins in September, with Australia and New Zealand dates kicking off in January 2026 and European and United Kingdom dates starting the following month. Who Is the Sky? was produced by the Grammy-winning Kid Harpoon (Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus), while its 12 songs were arranged by the members of New York-based chamber ensemble Ghost Train Orchestra. Kendrick Lamar and Doechii among the big winners at the BET Awards
The BET Awards attracted a huge list of stars in Los Angeles on Monday evening. Hosted by , it brought together some of the biggest stars across music, film, TV, and sports to celebrate the talent shaping the culture and pushing it forward. Kendrick Lamar was the standout name for the evening, taking home four major awards including Album Of The Year for GNX, Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Video Of The Year for Not Like Us, and Best Collaboration alongside SZA for their track Luther. Leon beat out Ayra Starr, BigXthaPlug, Bossman Dlow, Dee Billz, October London, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims for the award. Thomas began by saying his grandfather always told him, 'music is a team sport,' before thanking God. The star also joked: 'My mother, she went on a bathroom break, she didn't get to see me win! But I'll tell you right now, we've been in this together my entire life and I wouldn't be here without you, mom, I love you so much.' Doechii continued her rise with a win for Best Female Hip Hop Artist, in which she used her acceptance speech to address the unrest over ICE raids in Los Angeles. The 26-year-old beat out Cardi B, Doja Cat, GloRilla, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Rapsody, and Sexyy Red for the award. She took to the stage to accept her award, thanking the BET network, adding: 'This is my first BET Awards, so this means a lot to me.' She added: 'I grew up watching this. I want to acknowledge all of the girls in my category that worked hard, extremely talented and very creative. You ladies are amazing. So, thank you, BET, for honoring me with this.' She then turned to address the protests in downtown Los Angeles over mass deportations and ICE raids, which President Donald Trump responded to by deploying the National Guard in a controversial move. She said: 'But as much as I'm honored by this award, I do want to address what's happening right now outside of the building. 'There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of Law and order. Trump is using military forces to stop a protest. 'I want you all to consider what kind of government it appears to be one every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us.' She continued: 'What type of government is that? People are being swept up and torn from their families, and I feel it's my responsibility as an artist to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people. 'For black people. For Latino people, for trans people. For the people in Gaza. We all deserve to live in hope and not in fear. I hope we stand together.
