Akkshay Dogra on Badass Begum: My character's look has shades of Emraan Hashmi from Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai
Akkshay Dogra
, who has been part of shows like 12/24 Karol Bagh, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?, Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, Waaris, and Dil Hi Toh Hai, will next be seen in the
web series
Badass Begum. His character, he says, bears a resemblance to
Emraan Hashmi
's role in
Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai
— particularly in terms of the style and attitude.
Recalling what drew him to the project, Akkshay says, 'When Badass Begum came to me, two things struck me instantly — the story of a girl taking on the world, and the time period it was set in. From the way the character looks to how he moves, everything had a distinct 90s feel. It reminded me of Emraan Hashmi's character from Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai. The similarities — the sunglasses, the attitude, the overall vibe — felt familiar.'
On shaping the look of his character, the actor shares, 'At the time, I already had long hair and a beard. There were suggestions to cut the hair short, but I felt a slightly grown-out style worked better, especially given the 80s and 90s references — moustaches, longer hair at the nape. I had sported a moustache for a previous unreleased role, so I showed that look to Tabrez sir, our director and producer, and he agreed it could work.'
Explaining how wardrobe choices affect performance, he adds, 'It makes a difference. That's why we do look tests and costume-based auditions. As an actor, putting on the costume helps shift into the character. The clothes carry a certain energy that affects how you carry yourself. That in turn helps you internalise the role more easily.'
While the show is fictional, Akkshay's character is loosely inspired by a real person. 'He was one of the well-known names in the underworld during the 90s. I read up a little to understand the context and background. But eventually, we took creative liberties and shaped the character in our own way. It's not a biopic — the intent is to tell a compelling story set in that world,' he concludes.

"He didn't want my jersey": Shilo Sanders' NFL debut sees mom Pilar's awkward Bucs jersey gift after coach dad refuses
Shilo Sanders' mom awkwardly handed Bucs jersey (Instagram) It was a lighthearted twist after a milestone moment for Shilo Sanders. Fresh off an impressive NFL debut with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their 27-9 win over the Tennessee Titans, the 25-year-old rookie wanted to share the moment with a sentimental gesture — handing his game-worn jersey to his dad, NFL legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. The response? A polite but clear 'no.' Proud Mom moment: Shilo Sanders' jersey gift to Pilar after dad Deion declines 'He didn't want it,' Shilo laughed, adding, 'Cause, you know, he's a Hall of Famer. He expects like 30 times more… I'm gonna give it to my mom, though.' True to his word, he presented the jersey to his mother, Pilar, who proudly showcased it online. Shilo couldn't help but praise her dedication. 'Shout out to my mom for coming. She went all the way to North Carolina for Shedeur's game, and then went to my game. So, you have my jersey.' While Shilo joked about needing 'three picks' for his father to accept the gift, Pilar's reaction left no doubt about its value to her. On Instagram, she wrote, 'WOW! ❤️ @shilosanders first NFL GAME JERSEY! So Grateful, Speechless and deeply touched… we never had a conversation about this, so for him to do this all on his own is 💣💥🤯… moms you understand! 🥲❤️ l LOVE HIM SOOOO MUCH!!!' Sanders family spotlight - On and off the field The Sanders household has been buzzing with NFL energy lately. Shilo's younger brother, Shedeur, 23, has been turning heads in Cleveland as a potential long-term answer for the Browns at quarterback. Ironically, the Browns' current struggles have come after parting ways with Baker Mayfield — now Tampa Bay's starter and fresh off back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons. Pilar, 50, also drew attention at Shedeur's game for her game-day look — a crop-top No. 12 shirt representing her son. While many celebrated her enthusiasm, a few critics voiced disapproval on social media. One comment read, 'I would be embarrassed if my 60-year-old mom was conducting herself like that,' sparking minor online debate. Coach Prime himself, at 58, expressed pride in all his children. Sharing a family photo on Instagram, he wrote, 'These last few days have been a blessing.' For Pilar, the jersey wasn't just fabric and thread — it was a piece of her son's journey, a testament to his hard work, and a gift straight from the heart. In her words, 'moms will understand.'
