Khaleej Times4 days ago
A father's pride and a poetic gesture came together in a heartfelt tribute shared by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, describing his son Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed as the 'one in a million of our time'.
On Thursday, Sheikh Mohammed posted a video with a song written in his own words, on his official account on X. The father's appreciation of the son was presented as a song performed by Emirati singer Eida Al Menhali, based on verses written by Sheikh Mohammed himself. The lyrics reflect admiration, pride and trust in Sheikh Hamdan's leadership.
'The sweetest wishes and the most beautiful songs. I dedicate its meanings to the a hopeful man. Today is your day, O one in a million of our time,' the lyrics begin.
The post comes a year after Sheikh Hamdan was appointed Minister of Defence on July 14, 2024, in a federal government reshuffle that also included the appointment of Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed as Vice President. While the post does not reference the anniversary, the timing has drawn public interest.
At the time of the appointment, Sheikh Mohammed described his son as a trusted leader with strong ties to the public. 'Sheikh Hamdan is a leader who loves his people and his people love him. We have immense confidence that he will be a great addition to the UAE government and a major contributor to shaping the country's future,' he said.
Since then, Sheikh Hamdan has led the Ministry of Defence while continuing to serve as Crown Prince of Dubai, taking on expanded federal responsibilities at a time of strategic growth.
The song adds a personal dimension to that journey, blending poetry, tradition and leadership in a way that resonates with many across the UAE.
