Island couple to walk 1,200 miles from Canterbury to Rome

Yahoo14-05-2025
An Isle of Wight couple are walking over 1,200 miles from Canterbury Cathedral to Rome for charity.
Linda and Paul Southwell, who live in Wootton, will start the walk on Friday (May 16), following the Via Francigena route.
Linda said: "I've always wanted to do this walk when I retired, and the only way I'm going to do it is for charity."
The couple are doing the pilgrimage route in aid of the Lily Foundation, after hearing of young Islander Teddy Ward's diagnosis of a rare mitochondrial condition.

They will embark on their journey by getting the 7.05am bus from Wootton, making their way up to Canterbury to start their journey.
They will then travel across the Channel to Calais, cross France diagonally to Switzerland, before heading over the mountains and down through Italy.
Linda said she is walking in honour of her nan, who was her role model and would be so proud of her undertaking this feat.
In Rome, she hopes to meet the new Pope - although she understands he might be a bit busy.
Linda said: "We've done fundraising bits before, but never anything like this.
"It's been absolutely incredible."

7 Love Islanders who have left the UK as Patsy relocates because she's 'too embarrassed' to work 9 to 5 job

Season 11 Love Island star Patsy Field has revealed that she's planning to move to Australia, as she feels "too embarrassed" to look for a regular 9 to 5 job in the UK a year after appearing on the ITV2 dating show. Speaking in an interview, she said: "I probably will be looking for a job soon, but I'm planning on moving to Australia." She added to The Sun: "A year post-show… I don't know if it comes with a little bit of embarrassment of looking for a normal 9 to 5 job." Patsy wouldn't be the first Islander to pack up her bags and relocate to another country after taking part in the show. Over the years, we've seen many contestants ditch the UK for opportunities overseas. Here's a list of all the Love Islanders who've made the move. Season 11 star Patsy is the latest Islander to join the trend of moving abroad. In a recent interview, she was asked if she considers herself an influencer, to which she responded: "I don't think I'm a very good influencer…I guess at the moment, yeah, you could say influencing — or just fun-employed, I think is the term, isn't it?" She then went on to say that she's planning on moving to Australia to find a job, explaining: "I feel like if I move to the other side of the world and maybe find one over there, I might feel a bit better about it.' Prior to being on Love Island, Andrew worked as an estate agent in Dubai. He returned to the UK after his time on the show and moved in with his girlfriend at the time, Tasha Ghouri. However, since their split he has now returned to Dubai, calling the move a "new start". Season four star Laura Anderson relocated to Dubai with her then-partner Dane Bowers. She's since moved back to the UK and now has a daughter with actor Gary Lucy. She regularly visits Dubai, and took her 16-month-old daughter Bonnie on a trip there earlier this year. Season four star Eyal Booker moved to LA in 2019 with his then-girlfriend Delilah Belle Hamlin. While he still considers London to be his home, he spends a lot of his time stateside and last year he moved into a luxury apartment there with his best friend Max and his girlfriend. Season five star Anton moved to Dubai after appearing on Love Island. He originally went on a brand trip but fell in love with the city, so he splashed out on a Bentley and an apartment. He later returned home to Scotland, calling the decision a "mistake". Speaking in a video, he explained: "After Covid, I got invited on an influencer trip to Dubai. As soon as I got there, I absolutely fell in love with the place - and I never came home. "I bought myself a Bentley, I bought myself an apartment on The Palm and I was absolutely living the dream. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there." Anton went on to explain how he invested £100,000 in a "gym concept", with plans to open a "nightclub gym". Season seven bombshell Abigail Rawlings has moved to US since appearing on Love Island. She works as a tattoo artist in LA, and judging from her Instagram page, she's having a pretty good time settling in there. Season two star Rachel Fenton returned to nursing after the reality TV show and she's since moved to Dubai, where she's continued her nursing career. New episodes of Love Island air on weekdays and Sundays on ITV2 at 9pm.

The islanders from London on the hunt for romance in the Love Island villa

As Love Island's tenth anniversary series heats up in sun-drenched Mallorca, two contestants from London continue to cause a stir, and they're not just turning heads, they're turning the whole villa upside down. With shock dumpings, bombshell arrivals, and an all-new 'Sleepover Villa' twist, this summer of love has already proven unpredictable. But through it all, two familiar faces from the capital - Dejon Noel-Williams and Helena Ford - are still in the running, and there's plenty of drama surrounding both. Dejon Noel-Williams – the personal trainer with famous roots Dejon Noel-Williams (Image: Love Island/ITV) Since entering the villa on launch night (Monday, June 9), 26-year-old Dejon Noel-Williams has rarely gone unnoticed. Originally coupled up with Megan Moore, Dejon has kept viewers guessing by openly exploring new connections - including a recent flirt-filled date with bombshell Billykiss and a stint in the now-infamous Sleepover Villa. But it's not just his cheeky charm that's getting attention. Outside the villa, Dejon already leads a life of luxury. As the son of former Premier League footballer Gifton Noel-Williams - who played for clubs like Watford and Stoke City - he's grown-up rubbing shoulders with sports royalty, including none other than David Beckham, according to CapitalFM. Though he shares his dad's passion for football, Dejon forged his own path as a qualified personal trainer. His focus on fitness has clearly served him well in the villa - and not just physically. Helena Ford - the former flight attendant in a love triangle (or two) Helena Ford (Image: Love Island/ITV) Also from the original line-up, 29-year-old Helena Ford has had one of the most turbulent journeys this season. The glamorous flight attendant entered the villa single and hopeful, but her early connection with Connor Phillips fizzled quickly. A brief spark with footballer Harry Cooksley soon turned sour when his attention drifted elsewhere - but Helena hasn't backed down. Lately, she's been caught in not one but two complicated love triangles: one involving Harry and Shakira Khan, and another with Harrison Solomon, 22, and Toni Laites. Though the romance is messy, Helena has remained a central figure, often at the heart of the drama. And she's no stranger to the limelight - she's close friends with ex-Islander Zara McDermott and is also linked to celebrity offspring like Spencer Morgan (Piers Morgan's son) and Angus Lineker (Gary Lineker's son), according to the Radio Times. Her Instagram showcases a globe-trotting lifestyle, with snaps from Dubai, Lake Como, the Maldives, Monaco, and beyond. Love Island Series 12 continues nightly on ITV2 and ITVX, with episodes also available to stream on YouTube. Fans can now also watchalong live with the hosts of Love Island: The Morning After, making this one of the most interactive seasons yet.

Expect Memorial Day weekend traffic delays in Massachusetts

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It's the start of the long weekend, and many travelers are hitting the road on Friday. Do you plan on grilling this Memorial Day weekend? Here's some fire safety tips MassDOT is saying that Friday will be the busiest travel day this Memorial Day weekend, so you're going to want to plan ahead. They say the best time to travel is in the morning each day, and the worst times will be in the afternoon through the evening. If you're planning to head out later, know that the most traffic is expected through 8 p.m., so leave extra time and stay patient. One couple heading to Bar Harbor, Maine, says they're glad they left early, before things get backed up. 'Normally we would've left yesterday but the weather was terrible. We leave a day early and come back a day late. That's the best advice we can tell people. Leave a day early, come back a day late,' said Daniel and Linda of Harwinton, Connecticut. Now, Monday is actually expected to be okay before 2 p.m. AAA says the worst of the traffic will be between 4 and 7 p.m., so plan around that for the way home. Also, know that Boston is one of the top domestic travel destinations this holiday weekend, so the MassPike could get hit pretty hard. Check times before your leave and look out for your fellow travelers.
