Most of the applicants are graduates.
This is one of the biggest recruitment drives by state govt to recruit PSIs. The total sanctioned strength of male PSIs is 514, and of lady PSIs is 100. The total current strength of PSIs is 369, including 69 LPSIs.
State govt on Friday advertised 398 Group C vacancies, including 187 posts of police sub-inspectors, 118 assistant teachers, and 57 technical assistants, among others.
The SSC said that due to a technical error, the data of 598 candidates who initiated applications from May 2 to May 5 for the post of PSI under the meritorious sportspersons category could not be captured.
The commission instructed these candidates to visit the Computer Based Examination System portal and select the option of 'yes' or 'no' under the meritorious sportspersons category by July 17.
Goa police currently face a shortage of personnel, with 10% of positions unfilled.
State govt has sanctioned 10,782 different posts for Goa police, but only 9,782 vacancies are filled.
A total of 215 posts of PSIs are vacant, positions that are directly connected to investigations, and 28 posts of direct deputy superintendent of police (DySP) have remained vacant for more than two years.
Regarding the direct recruitment, a proposal for filling 28 vacancies of direct recruitment of DySPs was forwarded to the home department in 2023.

These vacancies were advertised by the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) in Aug 2023. However, govt reiterated the decision to stop the recruitment process, which was conveyed to the GPSC by the department of personnel in Dec 2023.
Police said that of 194 PSI vacancies of direct recruitment, a proposal to fill up 152 vacancies was started by the SSC a year ago. Another proposal to fill up 35 vacancies was started by the SSC in Jan.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant said that in the next two years, govt will create around 12,000 direct jobs. He said govt is concerned about those who completed graduation and postgraduation, as well as those who dropped out after Class X and Class XII.

In no-Uber Goa, FIR against aggregator; airport drop matter reaches assembly
Porvorim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Friday govt would act against the illegal operation of Uber in the state after an opposition MLA said in the House that somebody in South Goa successfully booked a cab via the aggregator's app in Goa, a state that doesn't permit major app-based aggregators. North Goa SP Rahul Gupta said that an FIR has been registered against the Uber management and the driver, Devendra Satardekar, for allegedly illegally operating app-based taxi business. AAP MLA Venzy Viegas told the House on Friday that on Thursday night, a taxi was booked on the Uber app from Benaulim to Mopa (home to the Manohar International Airport). The Benaulim MLA said that some taxi operators download the app from the play store, register themselves, and start operating under the Uber app. The CM immediately responded saying govt has not given permission to Uber to operate in Goa. 'We will act against them,' he said. In a separate case, assistant director of transport filed a complaint against the management of Uber and a taxi driver Gupta said that the driver, allegedly in connivance with the Uber management, was found operating and picking up passengers via the app without the necessary state transport permit or licence. 'Such operations allegedly violate the transport laws of Goa, pose safety and security risks to passengers, and cause loss of revenue to the state exchequer,' he said. Recently, taxi unions in both North and South Goa voiced their firm opposition to the newly-drafted Goa transport aggregator guidelines, 2025, arguing that govt's push for app-based services would affect their livelihoods. The draft guidelines speak of regulating ride-hailing services and allowing taxi drivers to operate through any aggregator app of their choice using govt-notified rates. State govt received around 4,000 objections and suggestions for the guidelines. Coastal belt MLAs supported the demands of the taxi operators. Following pressure from them, Sawant said in June that cab aggregators like Ola and Uber would not be allowed in Goa. The entry of app-based taxis is a highly controversial issue in Goa, where local cabbies vigorously oppose any plan to introduce them, stating that this would eat into their earnings. Goa has witnessed several agitations, and taxis have even gone off the roads to stop govt from allowing app-based taxi aggregators in the state. Currently, two app-based aggregators supported by state govt are operating in the state, but there has been confrontation between app-based taxi drivers (who show up to pick up customers) and regular taxi operators. Goa police has in the past filed FIRs against taxi operators for assaulting app-based taxi drivers in Goa. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Mapusa sub-registrar's office to move: CM
Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant said in the House on Friday that the Mapusa sub-registrar's office will be shifted to new premises as this is a necessity. Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said the office is the highest revenue-generating centre but is in a dilapidated condition, with people having to walk up three floors as the lift doesn't work. Despite Rs 300 crore revenue being generated per month, the office is neglected, Lobo said, seeking the immediate shifting of the office. Several MLAs flagged vacancies in the judiciary, especially in fast-track courts. Sawant said govt has given administrative approval for 74 additional posts of judicial officers. He said there are seven existing judges, 19 vacant posts, 12 newly recruited staff, and four recruitments are under process. Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira said the administrative tribunal needs to be shifted to new premises as it is situated in an old building in Panaji. He also sought a website for the tribunal with case status and judgments uploaded online. Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuemkar sought a solution to the parking problem at the new South Goa courts' building. Will act against all officials involved in inserting structures in survey plan: CM
Porvorim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Friday assured the House that action would be taken against officials involved in the illegal insertion of structures in the survey plan. The opposition raised concerns that structures had been inserted illegally into the survey plan and claimed that it involved Rs 100 crore. Revenue minister Atanasio 'Babush' Monserrate too assured action. 'We have asked the collector to inquire into it,' he said. Quepem MLA Altone D'Costa said that the illegal insertion of structures in the plan led to a Rs 100 crore scam. He said that the owners of the inserted structures approached the TCP department, directorate of panchayats, and other authorities to get permissions for CRZ and no-development zone. D'Costa asked how many structures had been inserted with and without site visits. Monserrate explained that the plan was prepared in 1972 and it is the original plan, and that, to date, there is no other plan. Monserrate added that the 2019 BhuNaksha has been adopted in the state. He said that when it was uploaded, the planning department found some discrepancies and around 100 structures were observed.
