WNBA expansion teams are popping up everywhere, including in Cleveland, with other cities in the queue
With Cleveland reportedly winning a bid for a WNBA expansion team, here are other places Mackenzie and Meghan would like to see teams.
One week after the UConn Huskies defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks for the NCAA Tournament championship, March Madness stars will take the next step to the WNBA, meaning us women's basketball fans won't have time to catch our breaths, let alone the actual players.
The 2025 WNBA Draft will be held Monday at the Shed in New York City.
Only five players in WNBA history have completed the women's basketball double and began their WNBA career as the No. 1 overall pick after ending their collegiate career with a NCAA national championship: Sue Bird, who was drafted first overall by Seattle Storm after UConn's 2002 title; Diana Taurasi, who was selected first by the Phoenix Mercury after UConn's 2004 championship; Candace Parker, who was picked first by the Los Angeles Sparks after Tennessee's 2008 title; Tina Charles, who was taken by Connecticut Sun first overall after UConn's 2010 tournament win; and Breanna Stewart, who was selected first by Seattle after UConn's 2016 title.
Will there be another? Most likely. Paige Bueckers is widely expected to be the first overall pick of the 2025 WNBA Draft after leading UConn to its 12 overall title and first since 2016.
WNBA MOCK DRAFT: Projected first-round picks after 2025 women's NCAA championship
UConn and Tennessee have produced the most WNBA draftees with 47 and 44 players drafted into the league, respectively. UConn (27) also has a slight edge in the number of first-round draft picks, compared to Tennessee (21).

MSU basketball listed among top teams in Big Ten in latest preseason rankings
Today's edition of the ROTHSTEIN 45 is now LIVE following recent 10:1. Purdue2. Houston3. St. John's4. Florida5. Michigan6. UConn7. UCLA8. BYU9. Duke10. Texas TechCC: @FDSportsBook, @ Michigan State basketball remains just outside of the top 20 in the latest preseason rankings from one of the game's top analysts. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports has released an updated batch of preseason rankings for the 2025-26 college basketball season, and the Spartans remain listed just outside the top 20. Rothstein has the Spartans at No. 21 in his updated version of the rankings that were released on Tuesday. Among Big Ten teams, the Spartans rank No. 5 in Rothstein's list but there is a notable drop off after the top three. He has Purdue (No. 1), Michigan (No. 5) and UCLA (No. 7) all in the top 10, and then next from the Big Ten is Oregon (No. 20) one spot before the Spartans. Michigan State is the reigning Big Ten champs and went the furthest of any team from the league in the NCAA Tournament by reaching the Elite Eight this past season. However, the Spartans have lost a number of key pieces off that highly-successful team, including leading scorers Jase Richardson and Jaden Akins -- so many like Rothstein anticipate a step back from the Spartans next season. As I've said during most of this offseason, I feel like anywhere from No. 15 to No. 25 is about right for the Spartans in next year's preseason poll. I would be quite surprised if they were any higher than No. 15 and shocked if they were unranked when the official preseason polls drop in a few months. Havlicek Stole the Pod 13: On whether Boston Celtics owners will help keep the CT Sun in New England, with Noa Dalzell
Boston Celtics owners might help keep WNBA basketball in New England -- or they might help push it out of the region for most of the next decade, if not longer. If that is confusing, that's because the whole situation is, and Celtics owners past and present may play a major role in how the sale of the Connecticut Sun will impact the presence of the league in the Northeast. The Sun are for sale, and former Boston minority owner Steve Pagliuca is fronting a group trying to bring the team to Massachusetts. But he didn't submit an expansion application to the WNBA given he was busy with a bid to buy the Celtics, ultimately seeing a competing offer from current majority owner Bill Chisholm win the day. And Chisholm's group may be in the lead for a Boston WNBA franchise, but one likely to take shape many years in the future. How are the Celtics entangled in this sticky situation? Is there a way to keep the Sun from being poached by a team out of the region? Would it be in Boston, the Constitution State, or some other compromise location? And how do we think this saga will play out? The hosts of "Havlicek Stole the Pod" sat down with SB Nation's Noa Dalzell to talk it all over, as well as the rest of the recent NBA news still trickling out. Check it out!
