PBC, SCBA condemn assault on Sindh law minister's residence
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) condemned the assault on Sindh Law minister's residence, saying no one could be allowed to damage public property and challenge the writ of the State.
Vice-Chairman PBC Chaudhary Tahir Nasrullah Warraich, Chairman Executive Committee of bar Muhammad Yaseen Azad and Member PBC Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon have vehemently condemned the incident that took place yesterday at Naushahro Feroze, when demonstrators protesting against the six-canal project, stormed the residence of Sindh Law Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, setting it ablaze, vandalising property, and burning household items, which is very sad and distressing.
They said Lanjar is an esteemed member of the Sindh Bar Council and its former vice-chairman.
They reiterated that the matter of six-canal project has already been placed before the Council of Common Interests (CCI), the constitutional competent forum to settle inter-provincial matters, to resolve it legally and institutionally.
They further said that the PBC reaffirms its commitment to promoting democratic values, constitutionalism, and the peaceful resolution of all national issues through dialogue and legal mechanisms. The legal fraternity cannot turn a blind eye on such like illegal acts, since peaceful protest is a democratic right of every citizen, but no one could be allowed to damage public property and challenge the writ of the state.
They demanded that it is incumbent upon IG Sindh Police, DIG Police, Naushahro Feroze and the relevant law enforcement agencies to conduct fair and transparent probe of this incident and arrest culprits immediately and deal with iron hands individuals involved in this incident.
President Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta and the 27th cabinet of the SCBA that the Bar Association views this incident with grave concern.
We assert that such acts of vandalism, ransacking, and assaults on the homes of respectable individuals under the false guise of protest can never be justified. This incident is a classic example of blatant disregard of law and sheer manifestation of lawlessness that has devolved into terrorism. These perpetrators have openly challenged the writ of the state and taken the law into their own hands.
They demand that all individuals involved in this violent incident must be apprehended and prosecuted under the Anti-Terrorism Act and other applicable laws without delay. It is imperative that appropriate measures are implemented to restore peace and to arrest the miscreants, ensuring that no one dares to undermine ~the rule of law again.

Five AVLC cops held for kidnapping
Malir Cantt police raided the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) office in Khawaja Ajmer Nagri, rescuing an abductee and arresting five AVLC personnel, including a sub-inspector. Reportedly, the victim, Madad Ali, had gone missing from near his residence in Bilawal Jokhio Goth. After failing to locate him, his family registered a complaint at the police station. Proscribed outfits barred from hides collection
The Punjab Home Department has imposed a ban on 84 banned outfits from collecting sacrificial animal skins by roaming neighbourhoods across the province including Rawalpindi, using social media, or through their offices and homes. A circular regarding this ban has also been issued. The detailed data and list of all these banned organisations have been shared with the police stations across the Rawalpindi district, Special Branch, Civil Defence, and intelligence agencies. A warning notice has been issued stating that any violation of the ban, including attempts to collect or encourage the collection of skins, will result in cases being registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

Listen to article Pakistan has been appointed vice chair of the UNSC Counter-Terrorism Committee and chair of the UNSC panel that oversees the implementation of sanctions on the Afghan Taliban. The pair of moves is not just a recognition of the success of the government in disassociating itself from militancy, but also a slap in the face for India, which has been sending delegations to world capitals to convince them that Pakistan was behind the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The appointments mean that Pakistan — currently one of the rotating members of the UNSC — will have a prominent voice during policymaking, and could well be the loudest voice in the room when it comes to reexamining sanctions on Afghanistan. It is worth noting that just days before Pakistan became chair of the sanctions panel, New Delhi had been sweet-talking Kabul, and anti-Pakistan terrorism from across the border had been on the rise. Since the thaw, the Afghan Taliban have begun taking concrete steps to address terrorism originating on its soil and other CBMs. Meanwhile, India has been left out in the cold, something that is becoming the norm in world capitals. In fact, the events of the past few days show that India's efforts to malign Pakistan have not only failed, but have even backfired. Pakistan is getting support from several countries at the UN and elsewhere, partly due to Islamabad's own diplomatic efforts, but also due to India's refusal to provide any proof to incriminate Pakistan in the terrorist attack. Meanwhile, New Delhi's own state-sponsored terrorism — assassination attempts on overseas dissidents — have led to Prime Minister Narendra Modi getting snubbed by the G7 at a time when it is trying to portray itself as a global diplomatic power. But beyond the comparative diplomatic successes and failures of Pakistan and India, Islamabad has a golden opportunity to use its expertise and relationship with Kabul to influence positive changes in Afghanistan, while also strengthening its credentials as a leader in global security policymaking.
