Ben Rice out of Yankees' lineup with Giancarlo Stanton back

June 17 - The slumping New York Yankees sat Ben Rice for Tuesday's game against the visiting Los Angeles Angels while they continued to work slugger Giancarlo Stanton back into the lineup.
Stanton, who missed the first 70 games of the season with tendinitis in both elbows, made his season debut Monday and went 2-for-4 with a double. But the Yankees fell 1-0 in 11 innings and have totaled four runs on their season-high four-game losing streak, which began with a sweep at Boston.
Rice, who played first base on Monday but has primarily been the DH in Stanton's absence, will be on the bench for Tuesday's game. Center fielder Trent Grisham also got a day off as manager Aaron Boone shook up the lineup.
Left fielder Jasson Dominguez, who hasn't hit higher than fifth in the order all season, will bat leadoff. Stanton, the No. 5 hitter on Monday, will bat cleanup Tuesday.
Rice, 26, has batted .229 with 12 home runs and 26 RBIs in 63 games this season, his second in the major leagues. He ranks third on the team in home runs behind only Aaron Judge (26) and Grisham (13). However, Rice has gone 4-for-34 (.118) in his last 10 games with no extra-base hits.
It was not clear what the Yankees planned to do with Rice going forward.
Stanton, 35, began his 16th major league season and his eighth with the Yankees on Monday after eight years with the Florida/Miami Marlins (2010-17). The 2017 National League MVP and five-time All-Star has 429 home runs and 1,103 RBIs in his career.

Reports: Jets sign K Harrison Mevis after UFL stint

June 18 - The New York Jets signed kicker Harrison Mevis, who most recently played for the Birmingham Stallions in the 2025 UFL season, according to ESPN and other reports Tuesday. Mevis, 23, has yet to appear in an NFL game after a successful college career at Missouri. In 2024, he signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent but was waived during training camp. Mevis -- nicknamed "The Thiccer Kicker" for his burly frame -- went 20-for-21 on field goal attempts for Birmingham in the recently completed UFL season. The biggest play of his four-year career at Missouri was a 61-yard game-winning field goal to upset No. 15 Kansas State in 2023. He was a first-team All-American selection in 2021 and went 89-for-106 on field goals and 148-for-149 on extra point attempts in his career. The Jets already have two kickers on their roster ahead of training camp: veteran Anders Carlson and 2025 undrafted free agent Caden Davis. --Field Level Media

EXCLUSIVE Inside Manchester City's coaching overhaul: JACK GAUGHAN reveals why everything had to change, Jurgen Klopp's helping hand and Pep Guardiola's 'double everything' sessions to bring back glory days

Pep Guardiola arrives at a lacrosse pitch at Lynn University in Boca Raton, around an hour north of Miami, shortly before his Manchester City players. They're a few minutes back. City have taken over the campus for the Club World Cup. There is barely a soul around, aside from officious security guards whizzing on buggies with heightened senses given their esteemed guests. They warm up on the lacrosse area and perform more tactical elements across the path, inside the quaint Bobby Campbell Stadium.
