UFC 315: Belal Muhammad vs Jack Della Maddalena fight preview, fight card, streaming info

The Hindu07-05-2025

Montreal will play host to the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) most anticipated fight on May 11 as America's Belal Muhammad gears up to defend his title for the first time.
Belal, who made his UFC debut back in 2016, had to wait for his shot at the welterweight title — eight years, to be precise.
And when the opportunity arose, he stepped up and seized it with both hands. True to his nickname 'Remember The Name', Belal secured a statement unanimous decision win over Leon Edwards at UFC 304 to clinch the belt. Like a fine wine, Belal has improved with age and has become a master strategist inside the cage, combining endurance with relentless pace.
He pairs this suffocating pressure with ever-improving striking technique to systematically break down and overwhelm his opponents. His fight record is indicative of his wait-and-strike approach — just six out of his 24 professional wins have come via finishes and the rest have been decisions.
The strategy was evident in his bout against Edwards. Twenty seconds into the fight, Belal initiated a successful takedown as he pinned the Englishman towards the cage and dropped him in a flash. That was perhaps an indication of what was about to unfold.

With a total of nine takedowns and 68 significant strikes, Belal dominated his opponent for the majority of the fight and took home a convincing victory.
That win marked his sixth straight triumph, extending an impressive unbeaten streak that now spans 11 fights over the past five years.

Standing across from him will be Perth's Jack Della Maddalena, a fighter who is also riding a massive wave of momentum. Initially scheduled to face Edwards earlier this year, circumstances now pit him against Belal. Della enters this title opportunity on an incredible 17-fight winning streak in professional MMA.
Since joining the UFC roster after impressing on Dana White's Contender Series (DWCS) in 2021, he has had seven consecutive wins, including five finishes. Belal will likely deliver grappling exchanges with relentless pressure, while Della will rely on his knockout power and finishing instincts. For Della, a victory would make him only the third Australian fighter — after Robert Whittaker and Alexander Volkanovski — to capture UFC gold.
In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko prepares for the first title defence of her second reign against French contender Manon Fiorot.
Shevchenko decisively reclaimed the championship from Alexa Grasso at UFC 306 last September. Now, 'Bullet' aims to demonstrate her enduring dominance as she enters her remarkable 12th consecutive flyweight title fight.
Challenging her is the patient and powerful Fiorot. Since losing her professional debut, Fiorot has been undefeated, stringing together 12 wins on the trot, including seven victories within the UFC. She cemented her position as the No. 1 contender by dominating Erin Blanchfield last March.

PBKS stun MI as Shreyas Iyer special sets up final with RCB for new IPL winner

PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer with Marcus Stoinis (Image via AP /Ajit Solanki) Ahmedabad: Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer unleashed a masterclass under pressure, smashing 87 off just 41 balls (5x4, 8x6) to power his team to an epic win over Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, sealing PBKS' first IPL final appearance in 11 years. Iyer and southpaw Nehal Wadhera played out MI's trump card Jasprit Bumrah without conceding a wicket and stitched together an 84-run partnership that proved decisive after PBKS were reduced to 72/3. Iyer's knock featured three consecutive sixes off Reece Topley and a grand finish with three more maximums off Ashwani Kumar. In between, he showed his finesse by guiding a Bumrah middle-stump yorker to the third-man boundary. Iyer had walked in after the dismissal of Priyansh Arya (20). Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav (44 off 26 balls; 4x4, 3x6), Tilak Varma (44), and Naman Dhir (37) helped MI, who were invited to bat first, post a competitive 203/6. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh began with a tight opening over. MI opener Jonny Bairstow (38), realising there was little movement off the pitch, which had remained under covers for over two hours due to intermittent rain, wasted no time in launching Kyle Jamieson for a six over long leg in the second over. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo IPL 2025 Winner Prediction: What Greenstone Lobo's Astrology says In the same over, Azmatullah Omarzai dropped a tough, running chance at short third man after Rohit Sharma mistimed a cut. MI ended the Powerplay at 65/1. Vyshak, introduced after the Powerplay, bowled with discipline. A scrambled seam delivery outfoxed Bairstow's attempted scoop and landed safely in Josh Inglis's gloves. Bairstow's dismissal brought MI's most consistent batter of the season, Suryakumar Yadav, to the crease. He, along with Varma, added 72 runs in 42 balls, with Yadav especially aggressive against Yuzvendra Chahal, who was returning from injury. Yadav swept and lofted the leg-spinner for three sixes before falling to a deep midwicket catch by Wadhera—his fourth dismissal to Chahal in IPL history.' Who's that IPL player? PBKS clawed back with another quick wicket, that of Varma. Naman Dhir (37 off 18 balls; 7x4) helped MI cross the psychological 200-run mark. But they did not account for Shreyas's stunning knock.

Explained: Why Khabib Nurmagomedov refused to shake CBS host Kate Scott's hand

UFC Legend Khabib Nurmagomedov Refuses Handshake from CBS Host Kate Scott at Champions League Final/ Image: File, X In an incident that has sparked mixed reactions online, former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov politely refused to shake hands with CBS Sports host Kate Scott during a Champions League final segment. The moment occurred at the Allianz Arena on Saturday night, following Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) stunning 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the 2025 Champions League final. The incident As the post-match coverage unfolded, Nurmagomedov, who was present alongside fellow UFC star Islam Makhachev, approached the CBS Sports panel. He greeted each of the male pundits, including Thierry Henry , Jamie Carragher, and Micah Richards, with a handshake. However, when Scott, who was previously known as Kate Abdo before her marriage to boxing trainer Malik Scott, extended her hand for a handshake, Khabib respectfully declined. The refusal, which came across as somewhat awkward, led to Scott quickly pulling back her hand. It was clear that the gesture was not a personal affront but a decision based on Khabib's devout Islamic faith. After the exchange, Khabib appeared to clarify his position, explaining to Scott that his refusal was a reflection of his religious beliefs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Villa Constitución (ver precio) Verisure Undo Scott, understanding the situation, apologized on air. Cultural and religious context Khabib's refusal to shake hands is rooted in his deep commitment to Islam, a faith that prohibits physical contact with members of the opposite sex unless they are close relatives. As a devout Sunni Muslim, Khabib has been open about his adherence to the religious practices that guide his daily life, including interactions with women. This is not the first time Khabib has faced scrutiny for his faith-driven decisions. Back in 2020, UFC fighter Cynthia Calvillo revealed that Khabib would not train directly with her due to her gender, though he would still demonstrate techniques from a distance. "It's a little bit weird because of their religion... they won't train with women," Calvillo told theScore. Despite the awkwardness, she emphasized that Khabib and his team were not rude, and that they still communicated respect. Reactions from Fans and social Media The handshake incident generated a wave of reactions on social media, with many fans praising Khabib for his respectful adherence to his beliefs. One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, 'Khabib respectfully declining Kate Abdo's handshake #respect.' Another added, 'Beautiful! Very respectful from Khabib. I love to see this.' However, not all responses were positive. Some fans felt that Khabib's actions were disrespectful towards Scott. One comment stated, 'That didn't seem respectful. Forget about the handshake, he even ignored her and didn't even greet and acknowledge her until she put her hand out.' Despite the brief awkwardness, Khabib quickly shifted the focus of the conversation back to the match and his support for PSG, who had secured their first-ever Champions League title. He was joined by Makhachev, who also celebrated the victory, and the two discussed the game with enthusiasm. Scott, for her part, continued her coverage with professionalism.
