Saints stay local on golf recruiting trails adding Dupuis and White

The Saints added two more local products to the men's roster for the 2025 OCAA season on Wednesday with St. Joseph high school product Jack Dupuis committing to the program along with Riverside high school grad Nathan White.

'I am very excited to continue adding local content to the team,' Corriveau said 'We have great players in this community and they will continue to prove that.

'I'm very excited to have Jack and Nathan joining our team for the fall of 2025. They have great games, tournament experience and, just as importantly, are fine young men.'

Dupuis lost the WECSSAA boys' individual title in a playoff to Belle River's Dayne Bensette, who signed with the Saints in December. It was Bensette that helped influence Dupuis' decision.

'My buddy, Dayne Bensette, was talking about going to St. Clair and that sparked some interest,' the 17-year-old Dupuis said. 'I reached out and we talked back and forth. I was talking to schools in the States and just felt the best decision for me was St. Clair.'
While he lost the individual title, Bensette did lead St. Joseph's to a team title at WECSSAA and also earned a SWOSSAA team title as the squad went on to finish seventh at OFSAA.

Dupuis also finished second at WECSSAA in 2023 to Cale Marontate, who will also be a teammate with the Saints.

'(Marontate) said it's a really fun team,' Dupuis said. 'Have a team is amazing because you can go out and shoot terrible and your teammates are there for you or you can go out and shoot amazing and know you're helping your teammates out.'

As a freshman, Marontate was part of St. Clair's first-ever OCAA championship men's team.

'They have a great roster there and play in some great tournaments,' Dupuis said. 'Adding me and others will, I think we'll just keep it rolling. Hopefully, we go to Canadians and make top three.'

It took White a full year after graduation to finally make his decision. While weighing his options, his job connected him with Saints' assistant coach David Byrne.

'During my year off, I talked to a lot of schools,' White said. 'I wanted to keep playing competitive golf and felt (St. Clair) was a good fit.

'I liked the idea of (playing at St. Clair) and toured the campus and heard great things about the program. I have some buddies and people I know.'

The St. Clair men's squad also features Vista Academy product Spencer Higginbottom and St. Anne high school grade Steve Hill and White liked the idea of playing with golfers he's faced many times on the course.

'All the guys are pretty local,' White said. 'I think that's the coolest part. You compete locally against them and now we're teaming up and trying to do stuff together.'

The Saints will add Lili Surgenor, who is from Lake Newell, and Emily Cortes, who is from Edmonton.

Saints receiver Chris Olave brushes off concussion concerns and laughs off trade talk
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Chris Olave, the New Orleans Saints leading receiver in two of his first three seasons, wanted to make two things clear. He is not concerned about the long-term implications of repeated concussions and sees himself spending his entire career with New Orleans. Olave has been a full participant in non-contact, offseason practices and this week's mandatory minicamp, but has not played in an NFL game since last Nov. 3. That was the day he was leveled by Panthers safety Xavier Woods during a downfield route across the middle of the field. Olave remained in a prone position on the field for several minutes, after which he was taken from the stadium to a Charlotte hospital. While he was permitted to return to practice in December, he never returned to the lineup. 'It was tough, man, at first.; I ain't never really sat out that long,' Olave said after practice on Wednesday. 'That was really my first major injury. … Just not being able to go and practice and go to meetings with my guys was the worst part, but I feel like I'm ready. I was training and lifting and everything in December. So, I feel like I'm good.' Olave has had at least four confirmed concussions in his first three seasons. The first occurred when he was a rookie in 2022 during an Oct. 9 game against Seattle. He missed just the following game and finished the season with team highs of 72 catches for 1,042 yards. During the 2023 season, he did not miss a game after a Week 12 concussion against Atlanta and finished that season with team highs of 87 catches and 1,123 yards receiving. Last season, however, he missed nine games because of two concussions. He sat out just one game after his first against Tampa Bay on Oct. 13 before the Nov. 3 one in Carolina ended his third NFL season. Olave consulted with specialists after the most recent head injury. 'They said I was OK back in December when they cleared me. It was just unlucky situations I was being put in,' Olave said. 'God's got me at the end of the day. I'm not worried about nothing. So, just got to go out there 100% and be ready.' Saints rookie coach Kellen Moore, hired in February after winning a Super Bowl with Philadelphia as the Eagles' offensive coordinator, has largely brushed aside questions about Olave's concussion history. 'I don't worry too much about that,' Moore said. 'We feel really really good about Chris. He's had an excellent offseason, an excellent career so far and (has) an excellent future. 'We feel like we've got a good one in him,' Moore added. So, apparently, do some other teams who've reportedly asked the Saints about their willingness to trade Olave as New Orleans rebuilds from a five-win 2024 season. The Saints also have lacked a proven quarterback since veteran Derek Carr's sudden retirement in May. All three of New Orleans current QBs have less than three season of experience and not a single NFL win. But Olave expressed optimism about those young QBs — rookie Tyler Shough, second-year pro Spencer Rattler and third-year pro Jake Haener. 'It's all rumors, man,' Olave said. 'In the offseason, everybody's trying to have something for clicks. So, I love it here. I love the front office. I love my coaches. Majority of Proline players favour Panthers in upcoming game versus Oilers
It seems Proline bettors are favouring the Florida Panthers to continue their winning ways in the Stanley Cup final. Florida took a 2-1 series lead over the Edmonton Oilers with a decisive 6-1 win Monday night. Action is slated to resume Thursday night in Sunrise, Fla. Fifty-four per cent of early bettors are looking towards Florida. And the early over-under on the game is over 6.5 goals, with 59 per cent of gets on the over. On Monday night, just 41 per cent of bettors picked Florida to win while 52 per cent of players correctly had the game to go over 6.6 goals. In NBA action, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers resume their best-of-seven final series Wednesday night. The Thunder captured a 123-107 victory Sunday night to tie the championship at one game apiece. A whopping 66 per cent of bettors had Indiana, a 12-point underdog, winning the second game while 67 per cent of wagers were also on the Pacers +11.5. Monday Mornings The latest local business news and a lookahead to the coming week. Fifty-four per cent of early wagers for Wednesday's game are on the Thunder to win while 74 per cent of bettors also like Oklahoma City at -5.5 on the point spread. On Monday night, the Toronto Blue Jays rallied to edge the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 in 10 innings. That was a popular result as 62 per cent of bettors had the Jays winning and 68 per cent correctly had the game to go over 8.5 total runs. A Proline digital play won $2,697.63 from a $20 bet on a seven-pick parlay while another earned $1,148.99 from a $9 wager on a six-pick international soccer parlay. A retail bettor claimed $1,748 from a $20 bet on a three-pick international soccer parlay that included Canada downing Ukraine in their Canadian Shield Tournament game (the Canadians won 4-2) and both teams scoring in the contest.
