Dancer Mamata Shankar gets Padma Shri: It was the biggest day of my life
Ecstatic, full of gratitude,' says dancer-actor-choreographer Mamata Shankar, who was conferred with the Padma Shri on Tuesday. Known for her unique dance style of blending Indian classical, folk and tribal dance with European theatrical techniques, Mamata describes the feeling of receiving the award as 'priceless'. She adds, 'I knew since January that this day would come, but still, I couldn't have been prepared enough for the biggest day of my life, when I was recognised for my art. Nothing can match that moment when I was there, receiving my Padma Award from our President, Droupadi Murmu.'
Since the list of Padma Award winners was announced in January, the 70-year-old started prepping for the ceremony immediately. 'I chose a red and green-coloured, traditional Bengali saree for the ceremony. It has golden hand embroidery. I zeroed in on it in January itself as I wanted to represent artisans from my roots while receiving the honour,' she says.
Ask how she felt when the ceremony was on at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, and Mamata says, 'It felt like I was on stage. Everything was so vibrant and musical around. Our President's congratulatory words made me very emotional. It was also an honour to greet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in-person.'
Mamata adds that this year has been all about career milestones for her. 'The journey started as a toddler taking a round of the stage with my father, Uday Shankar (veteran Indian dancer-choreographer). It has now received the most beautiful acceptance from the world, from those who have been with me, cheering me as an audience, performing at over two thousand shows, and acting in hundreds of films. I still feel I am that beginner who came on the screen for the first time in Mrigayaa (1976), directed by the none other than the great Mrinal Sen.'

Meet star kid who once borrowed clothes from designers, has represented India globally,
Meet actress, who once once worked as a waitress, borrowed clothes from designers, gave many superhits, is now..., name is..., net worth is Rs.. They say star kids have it easy, but the truth behind their journeys often holds surprising twists. One such story is of Bollywood's fashion-forward actress Sonam Kapoor. Known for her fearless fashion choices and red carpet appearances, few know that the actress, now a style icon, once borrowed clothes to pursue her love for fashion. From walking in her father Anil Kapoor's footsteps to carving a distinct identity, Sonam's path has been anything but ordinary. Sonam started her acting career in 2007 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Saawariya, opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Though the film flopped at the box office, she didn't give up. Over the years, she featured in critically acclaimed films like Raanjhanaa, Neerja, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Sanju, and Pad Man. Despite appearing in fewer commercial hits, her performance was often appreciated. According to media reports, her net worth is estimated to be around ₹115 crore today. A significant part of this comes from brand endorsements, not films alone. But more than her acting, Sonam has consistently been in the spotlight for her fashion sense. She once revealed that to keep up with her passion for fashion, she even borrowed clothes from top designers. Contrary to assumptions, it wasn't due to financial limitations. Instead, she believed not everything needs to be purchased. Borrowing was a practical choice—and an international trend—not very common in India at the time. Sonam started borrowing clothes at just 20, driven purely by her love for fashion. She didn't want to buy everything; she only wanted to wear what she liked and from designers she admired personally. It was a bold move in an era when repeating or borrowing outfits was frowned upon. But Sonam owned it and continued to express her style unapologetically. Before her debut as an actor, Sonam was working as a waitress in a Chinese restaurant while studying at United World College of South East Asia in Singapore. She later pursued her Bachelor's from the University of East London. She also takes immense pride in representing Indian culture globally. Be it the red carpet, museums, or any international stage, she ensures India's essence reflects in her fashion. 'It makes me proud to represent India in front of the world,' she once said, adding how even South Asians abroad appreciated her cultural representation. Today, Sonam Kapoor is not just an actress but a global ambassador of Indian fashion, who once dared to borrow clothes just to stay true to her passion. Currently, Sonan Kapoor is away from the spotlight and has been embracing her motherhood, occasional film work, and appearances at the global stage. Her current net worth is approximately. Rs. 115 crores.

Shooting of Bengali film stalled in fresh impasse between directors and technicians
Dey and Bhattacharya said the directors have sought an audience with the Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary on Tuesday to settle the matter. read more In a fresh standoff between a section of directors and technicians belonging to the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India, the shooting of a Bengali film was stalled on Monday as none among the crew turned up at the location in Kolkata. Expressing frustration over the development, director Kinshuk Dey said 85 per cent of the shooting of the film 'Harry Om' had been completed in the past one year amid disruptions and setbacks and only 15 per cent was left. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Though as per the practice we had given 'call time' to everyone - actors and the crew - none of the technicians turned up at the location at Baghajatin area in Jadavpur today. I had the hunch this is going to happen as there was no response when I posted the call time on our WhatsApp group last night,' Dey said. Some of the technicians might have some emergencies, but no alternate names were suggested as is the practice, the director said. Dey was among the 14 Bengali film directors who had filed petitions at the Calcutta High Court on the issue of alleged interference by the Federation in deciding the names and number of technicians in their film projects. The charge was denied by the Federation President Swarup Biswas who accused the directors of insulting the federation and technicians. He said this was not new as the shooting of a feature film by director duo Abhijit Guha and Sudeshna Roy had similarly been affected before a rapprochement could be arrived. Voicing helplessness over the situation, actor-director Anirban Bhattacharya said, 'We asked for some queries only and are yet to get any reply in the past one year. If technicians do not come, it will affect them economically,' he said. Dey and Bhattacharya said the directors have sought an audience with the Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary on Tuesday to settle the matter. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'We will seek the government's guidance and suggestion to wriggle out of the situation,' Bhattacharya added. In the past one year, the shooting of several directors like Srijit Roy and Rahool Mukherjee had suffered temporary setbacks on the same issue before being resolved. Biswas, when contacted, said he had no idea about the disruption of the shooting of Dey's upcoming movie as shootings of countless other feature films, OTT series, and TV soaps were continuing as usual.
