Red Sox unveil new 'Green Monster'-inspired City Connect jerseys, with help from Kermit the Frog
The Boston Red Sox are going green. On Friday, the team revealed its new City Connect jerseys, unveiling the sage-colored uniforms inspired by Fenway Park's iconic left field wall, the Green Monster.
Boston announced the new "Fenway Greens" jerseys on social media, with a video highlighting the storied 37-foot wall. The clip was set to "Bein' Green," a song sung by Kermit the Frog on "The Muppet Show."
The jerseys themselves contain a number of details inspired by the Green Monster's unique scoreboard. The lettering and numbers on the uniforms replicate the hand-painted signs, while the specialized "B" logo comes from the "hit" and "error" symbols on the board.

The jerseys also have details noting the blue and red lights for balls, strikes and outs, and a patch on the inside collar honoring the year Fenway Park was built (1912) in a heather gray reminiscent of the wall's interior structure.
Hours after unveiling them on social media, the Red Sox will debut the Fenway Greens against the Atlanta Braves on Friday, where Boston will kick off a three-game series at home as part of MLB's inaugural rivalry weekend.

Can Patriots QB Drake Maye take the next step in Year 2? What would that look like?
Editor's note: This is the third story in a three-part series breaking down lingering questions for the New England Patriots ahead of training camp. Part I: Has the O-line improved enough? Part II: Does Stefon Diggs upgrade the receivers enough? At the first spring practice of the Mike Vrabel era that was open to the media, quarterback Drake Maye threw four interceptions. At the next session, Maye was erratic, sailing passes by receivers. Questions began to swirl. What's going on with Maye? They probably weren't fair, of course. These practices were in May. The players weren't wearing pads. Receiver Stefon Diggs wasn't out there. Maye has a new offense to learn. But such is the world we live in, so Maye's early struggles became a talking point. Advertisement Fair or not, everything Maye does this season will be analyzed down to the microscopic detail. That's because nothing matters to the Patriots more than his development. If he becomes the franchise quarterback they believe he can be, everything else in this rebuild falls into place. If not, it's a damning indictment of every level of the organization and another setback at the game's most important position. So, yeah, a lot is riding on Maye. What would progress look like for the 22-year-old? What are reasonable expectations for his second season? Why is there so much excitement around him? And … gulp … what if the Pats are wrong about him? But the eye test told a different story. That's where the context of what Maye had around him comes into play. He had the NFL's worst offensive line and its worst group of receivers. And, to be fair, the coaching staff probably ranked last, too. So while there are a lot of reasons to be excited about Maye's chances of becoming the Patriots' franchise quarterback, there are fair concerns, too. That's because of how often he turned the ball over last season (he had nine fumbles to go with his 10 interceptions), because he ranked 28th in the league in adjusted yards per pass attempt and, frankly, because it's hard to predict the development of young quarterbacks. In other words, it's not a given that he's going to ascend to top-10 status this season. A lot has changed to make Maye's situation better. That starts with the coaching staff. A year after working with Alex Van Pelt and a staff that was learning on the job, Maye now has Josh McDaniels, he of 18 seasons as an NFL play caller, as his offensive coordinator. Advertisement But Vrabel wanted updates and tweaks to McDaniels' scheme, so he added Thomas Brown, who learned from Sean McVay with the Los Angeles Rams for three years, as passing game coordinator. On Monday, the Patriots incorporated some plays from Brown, which (coincidentally or not) led to Maye's best performance of the three OTAs open to the media. Maye's surrounding situation is better, too. The Patriots remade their offensive line and return only one starter from last season (Mike Onwenu). That should help give Maye more time after too often being forced to scramble after one or two quick reads. The Pats didn't overhaul the receiver room to the same extent, but they still added Diggs and Mack Hollins in free agency, then drafted Kyle Williams in the third round. What the Patriots get out of Diggs could go a long way toward determining Maye's ceiling for 2025. If he can return to the player he was in the early part of last season before the ACL tear, Maye's life will get a lot easier. He has never worked with a wideout as skilled as Diggs. But the Diggs signing came with plenty of risks, too, and not just the potential off-field distractions. Diggs is 31 and coming off a serious surgery. If he's a step or two slower, this Patriots receiver group will again rank near the bottom of the league. So when looking at Maye's development in 2025, a lot rides on how Diggs performs coming off the knee injury. The Pats' revamped offensive line plays close to league average, while Diggs returns and plays like a No. 1 wide receiver. Suddenly, after playing his rookie season on the video game version of All-Madden mode, things slow down for Maye, which allows him to take a Josh Allen-like leap in Year 2. His size and speed remain a weapon, allowing the Pats to draw up some quarterback run concepts while scrambling efficiently on third downs. His deep ball quickly becomes one of the best in the league with Diggs and Williams beating defenders downfield. With that, a semblance of explosiveness returns to the Patriots offense, meaning defenses can't play single-high coverage against them. That helps unlock the running game where Tre'Veyon Henderson shines with breakaway speed, thus helping Maye in the passing game. When all is said and done, Maye ends 2025 as one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the league despite a just-OK group of receivers. That incentivizes the Pats to draft a wideout in the first round next year and helps the offense take off in 2026. McDaniels' offense is complicated for any player, let alone one who has started only 12 NFL games and two seasons in college. He puts a lot on the quarterback, from making checks at the line of scrimmage to wordy play calls with audibles built in. That has Maye bogged down as the offense struggles to settle on core concepts amid a combination of McVay's and McDaniels' schemes. Advertisement Given that, Maye plays a bit slow, which is never great, but certainly not with a rookie left tackle and an offensive line that still could rank among the league's 10 worst. Meanwhile, Diggs has lost a step after the injury, and the receivers struggle to get open. That forces Maye to scramble any time he's remotely in trouble, building bad habits and further subjecting himself to hits and potential injury. That causes him to force the ball into windows that aren't open, and the turnover problem does not go away. Even if OTAs weren't incredible for Maye, the feeling is still positive. He's probably going to be really good. He could be one of the NFL's 15 best quarterbacks this fall. But how he develops remains a legitimate question given the way the last promising first-round quarterback in New England fell apart after his first year amid a coordinator change and with limited weapons around him. Now, Maye isn't Mac Jones. He was a far more impressive prospect coming out of college. It's unlikely Maye hits a wall after his rookie season like Jones did in a poor setup. So for now, optimism abounds for Maye, far and away the most important player on the Patriots.
