Five free games for iPhone, Android and iPad you'll actually play for hours – you won't touch your PS5 or Xbox for weeks
THERE'S no end of games for your phones and tablets – but plenty of them are a bit rubbish.
I'm The Sun's tech editor and I've spent hundreds of hours tapping and swiping my way through mobiles games to find the best free gems that you'll actually want to play.

In fact, I'm convinced this lot of titles is so good that you'll even snub your PS5 or Xbox – at least for the moment.
Better still, all five of them are available on iPhone, Android, and iPad, so there's something for everyone.
These games are truly brilliant, with hours of replayability, immense depth, and no upfront fees to play.
Best mobile game #1 – Wild Rift
First on my list is Wild Rift, which is a mobile version of PC gaming mega-hit League of Legends.
It's a fantasy MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) where two teams face off with the aim of dominating a battleground.
There are dozens of magical and mystical characters to play, each with different abilities.
And though it's easy to pick up, it could you take years to truly master.
As you progress through the game, you'll find yourself battling more skilled players, so you'll never be short of a challenge.
And Riot Games' Wild Rift is constantly being updated with new characters, modes, and mini-games, so there's always something to do.
Best mobile game #2 – Polytopia
Polytopia is a fiendishly replayable "4X" game – that stands for Explore, Expand, Exploit, and Exterminate.
Watch trailer for Old-School RuneScape's Varlamore expansion

You're set loose upon a map occupied by opposing tribes, and it's your goal to build a civilisation, conquer your enemies, and dominate the world. All through your phone screen.
The game is turn-based and involves a decent amount of strategy, and is easily paused for you to come back later. It also works offline, so this is a great option for flights.
It feels far easier to pick up than the hit Civilisation game series – and is bright, colourful, and suits shorter gameplay sessions.
You can ramp up the difficulty of the AI, the number of enemies, and size of the map for extended games – or trim it all back for a quick session.

16
And because there are so many different tribes with different perks, you can come at the game from lots of different play-styles.
Best mobile game #3 – Kingdom Rush
Kingdom Rush is an entire series of games that kicked off back in 2011.
They're not all free, but the first one is – and it's a cracker.
Kingdom Rush is a tower defence game set in a medieval fantasy realm where you control wizards, archers, and knights to fend off baddies.
16
16
Your reinforcements and power-ups get more sophisticated as you progress through increasingly difficult levels.
And the thrill of creating a truly epic defence is like no other.
The Kingdom Rush games are fun and don't take themselves too seriously. They're also easy to pick up, with relatively short levels that can easily be enjoyed on a commute or during a lunch break.
And you'll probably find yourself wanting to pay for the sequels. I certainly did.

MOBILE GAMING – THE GAME HAS CHANGED
Here's a quick take from The Sun's tech editor Sean Keach...
Back in the day, most mobile games were cheap and cheerful – but no match for console titles.
Soon game makers clocked on to the fact that pretty much everyone has a smartphone and/or tablet.
And very few people have consoles by comparison.
So developers have poured huge amounts of money into making mobile games, resulting in plenty of brilliant console-rivalling titles.
Pair that with the fact that the latest phones and tablets have very impressive computing power, pixel-dense displays, and access to fast internet, and you'll soon find you've basically got a console in your pocket.
You can also upgrade your phone or tablet by connecting a Bluetooth controller (like the PlayStation's DualSense joypad) for more console-like gaming.
And you could also enjoy actual console games by using a game streaming service like Xbox Cloud Gaming.
You'll save money on a console, and get even more value out of the mobile you're already paying for. Mobile gaming is a no-brainer!

Best mobile game #4 – Old School RuneScape
RuneScape is such a global hit that it almost needs no introduction.
This is the relaunched 2013 "old school" version of the hit massively-multiplayer online role-playing game based on its 2007 version.
Created by British studio Jagex, RuneScape drops you into a vast fantasy world filled with brilliant quests, fearsome bosses, and endless areas to explore.
This is the sort of game you lose days, not hours, to.
16
16
It's one of the greatest games ever created and remains wildly popular to this day – so it's a miracle that you can enjoy it on a smartphone.
The game receives regular updates with new content, and has a large online community to play with, so every game session feels different.
RuneScape's very large base game is free, but you can upgrade it with a monthly membership to unlock an absolutely enormous selection of new zones, quests, and more if you prefer.
My only warning: this game is so good, you might find it difficult to put down.
16
Best mobile game #5 – Hearthstone
Created by World of Warcraft titans Activision Blizzard, Hearthstone is a beautiful and brilliant online card game.
You collect virtual trading cards to build decks that you can then use to battle against the computer or other players.
And all of the cards are themed around the Warcraft universe, featuring iconic characters and spells from the smash-hit fantasy game.
Hearthstone is very simple to pick up but progresses to very high-level strategy if that's your interest.
16
16
And you can play on your own, against a pal, or even versus total strangers.
Blizzard is constantly releasing new cards and decks for Hearthstone, so it never gets stale.
And you don't need to spend a penny on it if you don't want.
This is one of the slickest card games out there, and works just as well on a small phone screen as it does on a giant iPad.

Tyler Perry is sued for $260 million over actor's sexual harassment claims
Entertainment mogul Tyler Perry has been named in a $260 million lawsuit filed Friday in Los Angeles, claiming he sexually harassed an actor. Actor Derek Dixon said in legal docs reviewed by Daily Mail that Perry, 55, aggressively tried to establish an sexual dynamic between them when he appeared on two of Perry's programs on BET: Ruthless and The Oval. Perry, who counts Oprah and Meghan Markle among his closest confidantes, 'will not be shaken down and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail,' his lawyer Matthew Boyd told Daily Mail in a statement Tuesday. Boyd said of Dixon: 'This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be nothing more than setting up a scam.' Described by The Sunday Times as one of the 'most powerful people in the film and television industry - and one of the richest', Perry famously lent his $18m California home to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after they quit the royal family in 2020. At the time neither Markle nor Perry had met each other, but the pair are now close friends as he is godfather to the couple's daughter Lilibet. Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Perry, BET and Dixon via his Instagram page, for further comment on the story. A legal complaint filed against Perry by Dixon's team states that Perry at first promised the actor 'career advancement and creative opportunities.' They included commitments such 'as producing his pilot and casting him in his show,' according to legal docs. Perry subjected Dixon 'to escalating sexual harassment, assault and battery, and professional retaliation when [Dixon] did not reciprocate Mr. Perry's unwanted advances.' Dixon in legal docs said he first crossed paths with Perry in September of 2019 at his Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. Dixon said in the legal complaint that after he first met the mogul at a party for one of Perry's shows, the New Orleans-born star began to send him text messages with sexually-suggestive themes. In the legal complaint, Dixon said that Perry looked to establish 'a coercive, sexually exploitative dynamic' between them when he worked on the set of The Oval and Ruthless, portraying a character by the name of Dale. Dixon said Perry offered to carve out a roll for him that would change his life, beginning in November of 2019 with a role in the series Ruthless. And in January of 2020, Dixon alleges he was sexually assaulted by Perry at the entertainment mogul's home, according to the legal complaint. In February 2020, Dixon told the court, Perry offered him a recurring role on The Oval. (He wound up playing the role of Dale over 85 episodes spread over five seasons from 2021–2025.) Dixon said Perry displayed his massive power by leaving his character Dale with an unknown fate to conclude The Oval's first season. 'Mr. Perry made it clear to Dixon that if Dixon ignored Perry or failed to engage with the sexual innuendos, Dixon's character would 'die' in the next season,' the actor's legal complaint read. Perry subject Dixon to 'escalating sexual harassment, assault and battery, and professional retaliation when Mr. Dixon did not reciprocate Mr. Perry's unwanted advances,' the legal complaint stated. Dixon said in his legal complaint that Perry's harassment also occurred in the wake of filming the scene in which his character Dale had been shot. In the legal complaint, the actor said that the entertainment magnate began to aggressively grope his buttocks 'in a sexual motion,' which also had happened during an October 2020 Bahamas trip with the case. Dixon said that a doctor's visit in late 2020 'indicated that [he] exhibited severe symptoms of acute stress, insomnia, stomach issues, and dangerously low cortisol levels due to the sexual harassment and assault.' He also said he was subsequently prescribed the antidepressant Zoloft in December of 2020. Dixon stated in the legal complaint that in June of 2021, he went to Perry's house to talk about a potential pilot for a show called Losing It. Perry had told him he was interested in producing the program prior to the meeting, Dixon said in legal documents. The actor said that during this meeting four years ago, Perry sexually assaulted him, leading to severe depression, anxiety, stomach pains, nausea and PTSD in the months that followed. Dixon said in the legal complaint, he told Perry in January of 2023 that he was relocating to California to establish 'some distance' between the two of them and that the move cost him nearly $400,000, as he was sidelined during the final season of The Oval as result of his relocation. Dixon accuses Perry of sexual harassment, battery and assault and more in the lawsuit, requesting a total of $260 million in damages. Perry was in a long-term relationship with Gelila Bekele after they began dating in 2009. Perry and his model ex welcomed their son Aman in 2014, two years after they first met at a Prince concert. Over their 13-year relationship, the pair rarely spoke of their dating life, in public, and have been vocal about also wanting to maintain their little boy's privacy. When asked about marriage in a 2013 appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Perry admitted he wasn't sure if he could ever see himself walk down the aisle. And in December 2020 he revealed he and Gelila had split and he was now a batchelor. 'This is what a midlife crisis looks like,' he wrote on Instagram in 2020. 'I'm 51, single and wondering what the next chapter in my life will look like.' Angel Reese drops massive hint about her relationship status
Chicago Sky star Angel Reese appeared to tease that she's off the dating market - but told her fans that they'd 'never' find out who she's seeing. Reese has previously commented on her dating life, saying that she doesn't want a man that's 'too cute' while generally keeping a low profile. But now it seems that Reese is seeing someone after a video she posted on her TikTok account. The Chicago center posted a quick vid of a beautiful bouquet of pink and white roses while the Ella Mai song 'Little Things' played over it. Reese captioned the video: 'that's a sign, that's a signnnnn.' Naturally, her curious fans wanted to find out more about the identity behind this new admirer. However, Reese appeared to indicate that there would not be any answers anytime soon. One person asked her, 'When are we gone meet this boy Angel!!' After one person commented 'Never.' as a reply, Reese took her queue, adding, 'Exactly, NEVER.' This revelation comes the same week where Reese executed a genius move to troll her haters. After trolls continued to mock the former college national champion for her tendency to rack up 'Mebounds', Reese is trying to trademark the phrase. A 'Mebound', a term derived from being selfish as a rebounder, is a clapback from Reese to some of her online haters who believe her best skill in the WNBA comes from her prioritizing herself and not the entire Chicago Sky roster.

Former Disney Channel child star branded as 'unrecognizable' after shocking transformation
She was once known as the brainy Olive Doyle on Disney Channel's A.N.T. Farm, but Sierra McCormick looks completely unrecognizable today. Now 27, the former child star has undergone a jaw-dropping transformation, swapping her squeaky-clean Disney image for a bold, edgy look that's left fans doing a double take. Sierra, who rose to fame in the early 2010s with her breakout role on A.N.T. Farm, has since pivoted to more serious parts. She has been in indie films like The Vast of Night, the psychological horror We Need to Do Something, and popular TV show American Horror Story. With her career shift has come a striking new image. The actress no longer sports her long blonde locks and the colorful wardrobe that she once did on A.N.T. Farm. Now, in its place is a modern red bob, dramatic eye makeup, and a more mature fashion sense that's a far cry from her Disney roots. Fans were stunned when recent photos of the actress began circulating online, with many admitting they barely recognized her. Sierra, who rose to fame in the early 2010s with her breakout role on A.N.T. Farm, has since pivoted to more serious parts In 2022, the actress shared pictures of her younger self and herself 'cringe' and 'insufferable.' However, some people in the comments didn't agree with her critiques. 'You were such a cute kid,' someone wrote. Others were shocked to see the old pictures and started to connect the dots on who the actress was. 'Is this the girl from A.N.T. Farm or am I crazy?' someone questioned. 'Oh my god, [I] didn't realize who you were at first you look so different! But so gorgeous,' another person commented. 'OLIVE?' multiple users wondered, referring to her character's name. 'DID NOT RECOGNIZE YOU,' a different person expressed. 'Bro, I didn't even recognize her,' another wrote. Someone else said: 'It took me a second to realize who this was.'
