SUPER LEAGUE clubs have brought forward the expansion to 14 clubs to next season.
It was expected the addition of two more sides would not come until 2027, to tie in with the next broadcasting deal.

But at a meeting of top flight sides in Leeds today, the majority voted to expand for 2026.
It has angered fans, who reacted: "I'm never watching this nonsense again."
Another said: "The death has started."
But other disagreed, commenting: "Finally! About time. This should have happened years ago."

IMG's grading system will decide 12 of the clubs who will make up the larger competition, which will see the end of despised loop fixtures and keeping the 13 home matches.
However, two teams others will be chosen by an independent panel.
This means those from outside the top 14 can be picked if they do not make the 12, so the prospect of Toulouse Olympique being overlooked is open.
And with Salford set to still be relegated despite the expansion, there is the prospect of three clubs, including Bradford, coming up.

If the Red Devils do stay in, that will mean a miraculous escape after months of chaos under the shambolic ownership of Sire Kailahi and Curtiz Brown.
However, a Bulls' return would spark many complaints given the link with new Rugby League Commercial chair Nigel Wood, who headed the "club-led strategic review".
Until March, he was chairman at Odsal – the condition of which, with one seated and covered stand - is another source of anger among supporters.
And a raising of the overseas quota rules, allowing teams to have ten foreign players from 2026, has raised fears of a dilution of talent across 14 teams.
London Broncos, currently 10th in the Championship and Oldham, only promoted from League One last year, are also keen on a place at the top table.
A Super League statement said: 'The 12 existing Super League clubs have voted to extend the competition to 14 teams for the 2026 season, subject to conditions.
'This would be done by combining the club grading system introduced to determine Super League membership as part of the sport's long-term strategic partnership with IMG in 2022, with an independent panel to be chaired by Lord Jonathan Caine.
'The top 12 clubs under grading at the conclusion of the 2025 domestic season will therefore be joined by two clubs recommended by that panel – provided the panel judges there are two applications of sufficient merit against the set criteria.
'The Super League clubs have the right to determine the number of the clubs in the competition.
'The possibility of immediate expansion to 14 clubs was one of a number of options put to a meeting of the existing 12 clubs.'

‘I owe certain pundits an apology' – David Martindale makes major admission to Celtic hero Chris Sutton

The sheepish Lions boss only realised how bad the old surface had become when their new pitch was laid a few weeks ago. He said: 'I owe certain media pundits a wee bit of an apology and maybe the SPFL. 'I owe certain parts of the media an apology for the last two years and I'll explain why. 'Chris Sutton had a bit of a go about the park. Do you know what? I now agree with him. 'When the pitch got put down in 2018 I was the one constant that has always been here. 'I never saw the deterioration in the pitch, really. 'I had a bit of a go at the SPFL at the tail end of last year too, saying I couldn't believe they were telling us we're not getting any Premiership football on that pitch. 'Now that we've got a new surface, I need to apologise because I was wrong. 'The most senior players here who have played or been everywhere, they are all coming to me absolutely glowing about our new surface. 'Did I still think the park we had last year was better than some grass parks I've played on? Yes, 100 per cent. I'm not going into my work relegated, says defiant Livingston boss David Martindale as they're left TEN points adrift 'But can I see the pundits and media gripes about it previously? I would agree with them. 'I was in here and I was working on it, so it was hard for me to see the wood for the trees. I genuinely believed the last couple of years our surface was OK. 'I was wrong in that assertion.' Martindale hopes the zippy new pitch could also help his team avoid being shown last on the TV highlights. He added: 'There was a lazy narrative with us previously — big strong, physical Livingston. 'You would see three minutes on Sportscene, and generally we would be last on. 'But I'm not having a go at it. Moment David Martindale swarmed by Livingston fans as he celebrates dramatic comeback with punters during pitch invasion 'That side of it is dictated by your fan base, isn't it? 'We were generally going to be the last on in the programme. 'Our last year in the Premiership was probably more ten bodies behind the ball, a wee bit more direct. 'But now we play a different shape to what we played the last couple of years. 'We actually want teams to come and press us now, but you have still got to find a way to win games. 'I'll be doing that every Saturday, but sticking as much to the basic fundamentals we played last year, and that we coached in the Championship. 'It's essential we don't deviate too far from that.' Viktor Gyokeres' Arsenal transfer proves that more Premier League clubs should look to the Championship for new stars

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) TWO YEARS ago, after two outstanding Championship seasons with Coventry, Viktor Gyokeres was on the market for £20million. Now Arsenal could end up splashing out a whopping £63.5m on the Swedish hitman, who will make his Gunners debut in a North London derby in Hong Kong. 3 Viktor Gyokeres scored 38 goals in two seasons for Coventry Credit: PA 3 The striker cost Arsenal £63.5million from Sporting Credit: Getty Play Dream Team now! So why did no Premier League club take the plunge on Gyokeres back in 2023, when Ruben Amorim's Sporting ended up doing so? And indeed why do so few English top-flight clubs ever buy from the second tier any more? It is a bugbear among many Premier League scouts that the Championship is so frequently overlooked as a mine of talented players, proven in the English game. The argument is that elite clubs are far more likely to take a punt on players from the Portuguese, Dutch or other middle-ranking European leagues than on those from the Championship — which has far more in common with the Premier League in terms of tempo and physicality. By 2023, he was a 25-year-old coming into his prime, already renowned for his pace, strength, finishing and hold-up play — and regarded as a rare oversight from Brighton. Yet despite Gyokeres being tracked by many Premier League clubs at the time, none made a significant offer — and Sporting swooped in. The only player to outscore Gyokeres in the 2022-23 Championship campaign was 28-goal Chuba Akpom, who then moved to Ajax, rather than an English club. While Arsenal and other elite clubs might be excused for believing the step up from Championship to Champions League was too steep for Gyokeres, what about the rest of the top flight? BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS 3 So many are infected with an ongoing snobbishness over England's second tier, failing to see the division as the excellent pathway it undoubtedly is. There are exceptions, notably Crystal Palace — whose former sporting director Dougie Freedman has successfully raided the Championship. Eberechi Eze was snapped up from QPR for an initial £15m five years ago and has seen his price tag quadruple, as an England star who scored the winner in this year's FA Cup final. Michael Olise, signed by Palace from Reading for £8m, was flogged to Bayern Munich for £50m. Midfielder Adam Wharton, an £18m recruit from Blackburn, has been outstanding at Selhurst Park, with Romain Esse, signed from Millwall in January, is expected to be the next to make a big impact for the Eagles. Fellow Scot David Moyes brought Jarrod Bowen to West Ham from Hull, as well as Tim Cahill, Joleon Lescott and Phil Jagielka from Championship clubs during his first Everton stint. Aston Villa's Unai Emery spent around £1billion on 164 players during his coaching career before he ever signed an Englishman. When he dipped into the Championship for Middlesbrough's Morgan Rogers he plucked out a gem. But others refuse to make such moves, meaning an absence of money flowing down from the filthy-rich Premier League to the lower reaches of the English game. There has been a steep downward trend in Championship to Premier League transfers — save for the regular vulturing of clubs who have just been relegated from the top flight. Brighton's £10m move for Tom Watson, 18, from Sunderland, is this summer's only example of an established Premier League club signing anyone who played in the Championship last term. The Middlesbrough duo of Hayden Hackney and Finn Azaz are highly regarded, as are West Brom's Tom Fellows, Norwich striker Josh Sargent and many more. But will anyone take a calculated risk on any of them? It is doubtful.

Liverpool face dilemma over star Jurgen Klopp predicted to be 'brilliant'

Liverpool have already banked some huge fees this summer amid what has been a lucrative transfer window with another exit potentially on the cards over the coming weeks Liverpool are open to selling academy starlet Tyler Morton despite Jurgen Klopp backing him for big things at Anfield. The 22-year-old is a graduate of the club's youth set-up and has gone on to make 14 first-team appearances for the Reds, five of which came under Arne Slot last season. ‌ But it now appears that Morton could depart Merseyside for pastures new, with fresh interest in his services. According to reports, French side Lyon are eyeing a move for Morton. ‌ As per The Athletic, both the midfielder and Liverpool would be open to a permanent deal. Morton, who has previously spent time on loan with Championship sides Hull and Blackburn, believes that a switch to Ligue 1 would represent a fresh start in his career. ‌ Morton previously had an opportunity to join German side Bayer Leverkusen last year, only for Liverpool to reject their advances. Ex-Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has regularly expressed his admiration of the young midfielder. 'You can see Tyler Morton,' Klopp said during his time at Anfield. 'We have to send him to the gym as if he gets a body, he's a brilliant footballer. There are some things to come physique wise, but the football brain is outstanding.' He then doubled down on that stance following another impressive outing from Morton. He said: 'I don't want to make his life any more complicated than it is already, playing at such a young age for a club like Liverpool in a game like this with a performance like this. "I think we should all calm down but it was really good tonight and a big pleasure to watch the boy playing. The football brain he showed tonight was absolutely exceptional. "If you are technically on that level and he obviously is and you have such good orientation then you have time for good stuff. On top of that he defended incredibly well with the other boys.' ‌ Should a deal for Morton go through, he would become the latest big-money exit from Anfield this summer. Luis Diaz completed a switch to Bayern Munich earlier this month, while Jarrel Quansah, Caoimhín Kelleher and Trent Alexander-Arnold have all earned the reigning Premier League champions considerable fees. Liverpool have reinvested with a number of big-money signings including Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez. Arne Slot's men are not finished there either, with the Reds interested in a deal for Newcastle star Alexander Isak, albeit he is expected to cost around £150m.
