IPL match in Dharamshala called off midway as stadium lights fail
The Indian Premier League match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was abandoned midway on Thursday due to floodlights at Dharamshala's HPCA stadium malfunctioning, India's cricket board (BCCI) said.
Punjab were batting at 122-1 against Delhi when the match was called off.
"Due to a power outage in the area, one of the light towers at the HPCA stadium malfunctioned. BCCI regrets the inconvenience caused to the in-stadium attendees," BCCI said in a statement reported by ESPN Cricinfo.
Only 10.1 overs of the first innings were bowled after Punjab chose to bat first.

But he admitted Australia's attack, led by six wickets for Pat Cummins, had proven formidable on Thursday. 'Personally, I don't think the Australians gave us any bad balls. That's why they're the best in the world. 'But hopefully, going forward, we can just counteract that and win the World Test Championship. The main thing is just to 100 per cent commit if you are defending or attacking. I think as soon as you get caught in two minds against this attack, you get found out,' he added. Three years ago, England chased down 277 against New Zealand for the third-highest successful chase by a test team at Lord's. West Indies hunted down 342 against England in 1984, while England successfully chased 282 versus New Zealand in 2004. The fourth highest is 218 for England against New Zealand in 1965.

South Africa fight back but still trail Australia by 91 runs in WTC final
LONDON : South Africa fought back at the start of the second day of the World Test Championship final against Australia but had captain Temba Bavuma dismissed before going to lunch on 121-5, still trailing by 91 runs. South Africa were in a precarious position at 43-4 overnight after Australia's pace attack had run through their top order, leaving them trailing by 169 runs after the defending champions scored 212 in their first innings. But Australia's hopes of more cheap dismissals on Thursday morning were stymied by Bavuma and David Bedingham as they employed a more attacking approach to their batting and put together a 64-run partnership before Bavuma was dismissed. The skipper went for 36 after driving into the covers and being caught by a diving Marnus Labuschagne off Pat Cummins, who had figures of 2-24 off 14 overs. Bavuma, whose innings included the first six of the match, had survived an lbw decision earlier when he was on 17 and trapped by Josh Hazlewood. India tell Reddy to be ready for bigger bowling workload in England
India's bowling attack will need regular contributions from all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy on the tour of England with Mohammed Shami absent due to fitness concerns and Jasprit Bumrah's workload to be managed, bowling coach Morne Morkel said. Team management have said pace spearhead Bumrah is likely to play only three of the five tests in the series, which begins on June 20 in Leeds, with seam-bowling all-rounders Reddy and Shardul Thakur on standby to fill any gaps. Morkel said he had challenged Reddy to bowl a bit more. "He's a guy that can bowl that magical ball, so for him it's about creating that consistency, it's something we want to work on, it's important for his game as well," he said after India's practice session in Beckenham on Wednesday. "I want to see the ball more in his hands, we all know what he can do with the bat. "For a team, if we can have the bowling options especially in these conditions, I think he'll be exciting and can complement this bowling attack." Reddy has five wickets from five tests - all in Australia. Bumrah, whenever fit, and Mohammed Siraj are the only automatic picks in the pace attack, while India can also turn to seamers Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna. Against an England side renowned for their ultra-aggressive batting, India bowlers will have to make an immediate impact and Morkel was pleased with their level of preparedness. "England, the brand of cricket they play, we need to be on top of our game," the former South Africa quick said. "We can't afford (time) to find our feet in this series. That's one of the things that has impressed me so much in the two days, the few sessions we've had. "The guys have stepped up by themselves, they've taken the ownership and responsibility, they've realised it's going to be a tough tour."
