ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Abu Dhabi Police and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority have issued prevention and safety guidelines for the Eid Al Adha holiday.The guidelines urge community members to adhere to precautionary measures during the celebrations in support of the continued protection of lives and property in the emirate.The prevention and safety guidelines call for members of the public to comply with traffic laws and reduce speed when driving, give right of way to emergency response vehicles, and avoid stunts and other reckless behaviour.The guidelines further advise the public to refrain from using or handling fireworks, to ensure that chargers, extension cables, and other electronic devices comply with safety standards, ensure that children do not play near main roads or cross the street without supervision, choose an open and safe barbecue site away from flammables, and extinguish charcoal or firewood well after finishing. In the event of and emergency, the public are to call 999 immediately.
Based on international best practices, the guidelines form part of the shared efforts of Abu Dhabi Police and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority to enhance emergency response preparedness and ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety during the Eid Al Adha holiday.

Dubai: Indian expat dies during scuba diving session at Jumeirah Beach
A 29-year-old Indian expat lost his life during a scuba diving session at Jumeirah Beach on Friday — while spending the Eid Al Adha holidays with his family in Dubai — a family member confirmed to Khaleej Times on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Issac Paul Olakkengil, was an engineer based in the UAE. According to his relative, Issac suffered a cardiac arrest after experiencing difficulty breathing underwater. David Pyarilos, Issac's uncle who is assisting the family with the legal procedures, told Khaleej Times that the incident happened during a training session at a designated scuba diving area in Dubai on Friday. 'They were participating in a beginners' training session when Issac began to struggle with his breathing and drifted away from the rest of the group,' said Pyarilos. He was immediately pulled out of the water and transported to a nearby hospital but could not be revived. 'We are currently coordinating with the relevant authorities to complete the documentation needed for the repatriation of his body,' added Pyarilos. Expert advice Filipino instructor Bimbo Calitis, founder and CEO of Amphibious Swim School in Jumeirah, told Khaleej Times: 'Those who want to learn diving must first check the background and credentials of the diving school.' 'Once you sign a waiver, technically you are voluntarily relinquishing or surrendering some of your rights and, in the process, exonerate the diving school of legal responsibilities,' he added. 'Learners must also first ensure they are physically fit,' he underscored, noting: 'There are many things that may happen under the water and if there medical emergencies, it's just you and the instructor. 'If you have underlying conditions, ask your doctor first and go to only licensed and credible diving schools. Avoid those who are offering cheap options or freelance diving instructors who are not certified,' Calitis added.

Dubai Police make Eid Al Adha special for female inmates and their kids
Dubai Police are making an effort to include female inmates and their children in Eid Al Adha celebrations this year by distributing clothing and organising special programmes as part of their ongoing humanitarian and social efforts. The gift-giving is part of the 'You Made Me Happy' initiative at the Women's Prison aimed at "uplifting the spirits of the inmates and their children," Dubai Police said on Thursday, ahead of first day of Eid Al Adha. 'Aside from gift distribution, there were also entertainment programmes for children, creating a warm, family-like atmosphere filled with positivity," Dubai Police said in a statement sent to Khaleej Times, adding, "(The initiative) was aimed at "spreading joy and reinforcing values of tolerance and compassion." 'This initiative, now in its 11th consecutive year, is a clear testament to Dubai Police's commitment to the vision of our wise leadership in building a compassionate and cohesive society,' said Col Jamila Al Zaabi, director of the Women's Prison. 'We prioritise humanitarian aspects of our work, especially concerning children and female inmates. We want everyone - even those inside correctional facilities - to feel included and entitled to joy and hope,' she added. "(We) adopt a holistic humanitarian approach to managing female inmates, extending beyond correctional aspects to include emotional and social support, upholding their dignity and rights,' Col Al Zaabi continued. 'The Eid clothing distribution is not just a gesture but a message of hope, a reminder that they and their children are not forgotten,' she underscored.
