MEMPHIS, Tenn., December 07, 2024--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The 2024 St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend®, presented by Juice Plus+® marked another major success in the event's 23-year history, raising about $16 million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®. The event, which brought more than 22,500 athletes to Memphis in service of this year's theme, "Together, we can do this," is estimated to make a $54 million economic impact, benefiting the city's tourism, hospitality and retail industries. "While the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend has grown in participant numbers and funds raised over the years, one thing has remained constant: our shared mission of finding cures and saving the lives of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases," said Richard C. Shadyac Jr., president and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. "I am so inspired by the dedication and heart of all our participants, from the 1,876 patient family members who joined us on race day to the 4,000 St. Jude Heroes who support St. Jude kids year-round." Top finishers for St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend 2024 Full marathoners, Carl Nelson of Kansas City, Mo., and Johanna Wistokat of Memphis, Tenn., crossed the finish line at this year's St. Jude Memphis Marathon with winning times of 2:34:18 and, 2:54:45, respectively. Robert Reidelberger won the wheelchair division with a time of 4:19:18. Berket Mesele from Memphis, Tenn., finished as top male half-marathoner with a time of 1:11:14, and top female half-marathoner, Madisyn Dominy of Bowling Green, Ky, finished with a time of 1:21:43. Crossing the 10K finish line as the top male finisher with a time of 35:27 was Ben Deeter from Memphis, Tenn., followed by top female finisher Lisa Sauter of Springfield, Mo., with a time of 37:53. Both from Memphis, Tenn., James Murphy finished the 5K with a time of 17:06 and Alisha Scott crossed the 5K finish line with a time of 19:05. $16 million raised during St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Thousands of people braved the cold to come together on Saturday morning to run in the annual St. Jude Marathon. Runners gathered in downtown Memphis to raise millions for the children's research hospital. 'St. Jude is such a big part of Memphis,' supporter Isabella Gattas said. 'Which is like awesome that everyone feels the need to give back. It's awesome.' More than 22,500 runners worldwide, 40,000 spectators and hundreds of volunteers came out to support the patients and staff at St. Jude. Annual St. Jude Marathon just a couple of days away Officials with ALSAC, the fundraising organization for St. Jude, said the massive event is the organization's largest single-day fundraising event. The marathon has raised more than $88 million since it began in 1982. Organizers say every donation and dollar raised has gone towards St. Jude's mission to find cures and end childhood cancer. 'It really made it easier to finish like when you got tired knowing that it was for something important,' runner Connor Graben said. Over 22,000 runners expected to participate in St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend Those watching on the sidelines say they're proud to see the city come together for this cause. 'This is amazing. This is our first time to actually come out for this and it is a lot of community support,' supporter Pamela Marshall said. 'We're all here for one reason and it's for the kids at St. Jude.' 'We're so proud of being from Memphis,' Gattas said. 'We're so proud of Memphis and seeing all these people together. It's awesome.'
