The Chris Waller-trained mare came from well back in the field to claim the weight-for-age feature in the final stride.

The win was Joliestar's sixth from 15 starts, her third at Group 1 level, and took her earnings to more than $4.5 million.
Waller indicated he would discuss Joliestar's immediate with her owners but while holding a nomination for next week's Stradbroke Handicap, the likelihood is the four-year-old will head to the paddock to begin her preparation for the $20 million The Everest in October.

1st - JOLIESTAR (James McDonald) She wasn't entitled to win, but that's how good she is. When I looked up at the 600m I thought I was OK, then I got on my bike but as soon as I did that, the pace quickened and the margin went from five lengths turning for home to seven lengths. It just didn't feel like I was making ground. I was lucky I was on a proper horse, even though she didn't like the ground at Eagle Farm today.
2nd - ZARASTRO (Angela Jones) So gutsy. He was all the way there, he was there to the last stride. Very proud.
3rd - GOLDEN MILE (Jason Collett) Good performance. Positioned himself well from the gate and still there at the finish. Happy.
4th - KIMOCHI (Craig Williams) She was really good and solid. Gave me a lovely ride throughout, the leaders got a break and we had to chase them down and she stuck to the task really well.
5th - RISE AT DAWN (Ethan Brown) He found them a bit sharp off the bridle but he ran really well. He blew out a bit late but up in trip is going to suit him and I think he's come up really well this prep.
6th - GIGA KICK (Mark Zahra) Joliestar had a bit more tactical speed than us early so I came back and followed her. We gave them a big start but I probably would have liked him to finish off a bit better, like the winner.
7th - BENEDETTA (Tim Clark) She had a good run, it worked out beautifully. Just felt she lost a bit of confidence around the bend on that shifty ground and she has done a bit of racing this preparation so she may have just come to the end of it.
8th - LIBERTAD (Jamie Mott) A little bit below his best today. He had a perfect run but just found he wasn't at his best.
9th - PAYLINE (Tommy Berry) He gave himself a real good whack out of the gates and never felt great after that.

Flemington to host 2026 Cox Plate during Moonee Valley redevelopment
Racing Victoria has officially unveiled Flemington as host of the Group 1 $6m WS Cox Plate next year. This masthead last week revealed Moonee Valley Racing Club recommended Victoria Racing Club as its preferred host for Australia's best race in 2026. The Valley will be closed after the Cox Plate this year to undergo a major redevelopment. The RV board met last week to stamp the MVRC proposal to run the Cox Plate at Flemington next year, with wagering, attendance, engagement and commercial implications central to venue considerations. The Valley principal partner Ladbrokes will maintain its naming rights sponsorship of the Cox Plate meeting at Flemington on October 24, 2026. The Melbourne Cup-qualifying Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2500m) will also be run on the same date next year as part of a nine-race card. The historic Cox Plate race day transfer sets up a blockbuster fortnight at Flemington and tantalising springboard to the Melbourne Cup carnival – October 31 to November 7, 2026. MVRC and VRC members will have access to Flemington on Cox Plate day next year. RV chief executive Aaron Morrison announced the Flemington Cox Plate fixture. 'We believe that Flemington is the best location to maximise attendance, wagering and engagement with the meeting,' Morrison said. 'We have confidence in the VRC's ability to present a high-quality track for Ladbrokes Cox Plate day and the four-day Melbourne Cup carnival that follows. 'We thank the MVRC for their work in exploring various options for the 2026 Ladbrokes Cox Plate … and for tabling an informative recommendation for our board to consider and ultimately endorse.' MVRC chief executive Michael Browell welcomed the 'historic occasion'. 'The MVRC is excited that the 2026 Ladbrokes Cox Plate will be held at Flemington, marking a historic occasion as the first time the race has been run at a different track,' Browell said. 'The MVRC looks forward to partnering with the VRC to create an exceptional event for members of both clubs and racegoers as we showcase Australia's best race at Flemington. 'I'd also like to thank all the clubs who took part in the expression of interest process for their hard work and dedication in preparing their submissions, along with Racing Victoria for their support.' VRC chief executive Kylie Rogers echoed the sentiment. 'It is an honour for the VRC to be named as hosts of the 2026 Cox Plate at Flemington Racecourse, this will be an historic occasion,' Rogers said. Australia lose first ODI against South Africa after nightmare collapse in Cairns
Australia's first ODI clash against South Africa has dissolved into a nightmare collapse, ripped apart by a freakish performance by the left-arm spin of Keshav Maharaj. What began as a promising chase under lights in Cairns quickly disintegrated into chaos before the 20th over. Things were looking smooth as Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh strode out to begin the hunt for South Africa's total of 297. The pair piled on 60 runs without loss inside seven overs, smacking the tourists' pace attack around the park with relative ease. South Africa made the first dent when Head fell to Prenelen Subrayen for 27, but it was Maharaj who inflicted the carnage that followed. The South African tweaker struck with his very first delivery, a perfect piece of drift and turn that trapped Marnus Labuschagne lbw for 1. From there he toyed with Australia's middle order, removing Cameron Green (3), Josh Inglis (5) and Alex Carey (duck) in a devastating, career-best spell in ODIs. Carey lasted just one ball, trapping himself LBW while attempting a sweep. It was a particularly unfortunate performance for Labuschagne, who is fighting tooth and nail to prove selectors he is the right man to pick for the Ashes series this summer, which is just a few months away. His lean spell with the bat in the Test arena led to his axing and he's running out of international opportunities before the series kicks off in Perth on November 21. The collapse continued as Australia's middle order tumbled. By the time Maharaj castled Aaron Hardie with another beauty that gripped, spun and clipped the off stump, his figures read a scarcely believable 5-9 from 4.2 overs. Australia crashed to 89-6, losing five wickets for just 15 runs. Mitchell Marsh remained at the crease and faced the monumental task of protecting the tail while chasing another 200 runs. He did well alongside Ben Dwarshuis (33) but ultimately fell on 88, top-edging an easy catch through to wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton. From there it was only a matter of time as the rest of Australia's tail collapsed for a total of 198, 98 short of the total. Earlier, South Africa had built their platform with disciplined batting on a tricky surface. Aiden Markram led the way with 82 from 81 balls, controlling the early exchanges with authority before nicking off at the wrong time. Captain Temba Bavuma added a composed 65, steadying the innings through the middle overs, while opener Matthew Breetzke compiled a brisk 57 to keep the scoreboard moving. Dewald Brevis' ODI debut lasted just two balls, but Wiaan Mulder's late cameo, including a six to finish the innings, lifted the tourists to 296-8, the highest total recorded at Cazalys Stadium. Australia's bowlers chipped in without ever fully stamping control. Josh Hazlewood was typically miserly (0-36), while Adam Zampa (1-58) and Nathan Ellis (0-54) went wicketless.
