PlayStation Network is working after 24-hour outage: Sony
The PlayStation Network, which users of the Sony PlayStation platform rely on to play games, download content, and access apps, started working again Saturday night after a 24-hour outage that left customers frustrated.
'All services are up and running,' PlayStation announced on its website around 7 p.m. Saturday. The problems, which prevented many customers from 'launching games, apps or network features,' were first reported at 7 p.m. Friday, the company said.
'PSN has been restored,' the company's support team posted on the social platform X at 6:58 p.m. Saturday. 'You should be able to access online features without any problems now.'
The company did not explain the cause of the outage and did not immediately respond to an email seeking more information.
The issues affected users of PlayStation's most popular offerings, including its console and web products. Account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store and PlayStation Direct were among the impacted services.
PlayStation creates software and hardware, including hugely popular gaming consoles. Users play video games and run apps like Netflix, Spotify and YouTube through the PlayStation Network.
On social media, some users reported that they were able to use their PlayStation on Saturday afternoon but many were still experiencing issues into the evening.
During the outage, some users reported that they were not able to play offline games, a testament to how severe the server problems were, as offline games usually do not face the same issues that online games will sometimes experience.
As users complained on social media, other brands fired off trolling messages.
'Calling all gamers: this play station still works,' Krispy Kreme posted on X. Krispy Kreme offered free glazed doughnuts for two hours Saturday 'because sweet rewards don't need a server.'
'bet y'all want physical copies now,' GameStop, the struggling video game retail chain, said on X.

Roberto's at The St. Regis Al Mouj Muscat Resort will transform into a stage for culinary artistry as two exceptional chefs come together for a five-Course Four Hands Dinner on Wednesday May 28th 2025. Executive Chef Giandonato Tafuri from Roberto's Muscat and guest Chef Florin Resmerita from Roberto's Doha join forces to create a singular expression of flavor and finesse—a bespoke tasting menu that marries Italian soul with global inspiration. This collaboration is a true meeting of minds, where signature techniques and bold culinary philosophies converge. Each course is thoughtfully crafted and plated with precision, reflecting the chefs' shared vision of elevating Italian cuisine through fresh coastal ingredients and the delicate, enchanting essence of Omani saffron. 'Bringing Chef Giandonato and Chef Florin together is about more than pairing skill sets,' notes Fabio Marzano, General Manager of Roberto's Muscat. 'It's about connecting our Roberto's family across the Gulf and bringing this extraordinary culinary experience to Oman. It showcases how Italian roots can flourish uniquely in both Muscat and Doha—different expressions, yet united by the same authentic culinary language.' Chef Giandonato, born into a family of chefs and seafood farmers in Puglia, honed his skills through early apprenticeships and years of collaboration with Michelin-starred masters across Italy and the Middle East. After leading Roberto's kitchens in Dubai and Doha, he now steers the Muscat venue with a signature approach that melds coastal simplicity with meticulous detail. Chef Florin began his culinary path in Greece and spent over a decade in Italy perfecting the essentials of Italian cuisine. Having refined his artistry in the Michelin-starred kitchens of Gordon Ramsay and Alain Ducasse, he now brings his globally informed sensibilities to Roberto's Doha, where he curates immersive dining experiences that respect tradition while embracing innovation. The exclusive five-course menu takes guests on a journey of contrasts and harmony, from the luxurious Manzo, Caviale e Uova—black Angus tartare adorned with Kristal caviar—to the bright Ricotta, Salmone e Lime, and the comforting warmth of saffron-infused Ossobuco Croquette. The meal continues with torched red mullet risotto, handmade plin pasta filled with wagyu cheek and foie gras, and charcoal-grilled wagyu striploin topped with delicate carbonara foam. For seafood lovers, a baked seabass offers an elegant alternative. The finale is a decadent dark chocolate and hazelnut dessert, brightened by notes of mango and yuzu. This dinner is more than a meal—it's a narrative told through textures, flavors, and a shared passion for Italian culinary excellence. Priced at OMR 48 per person (minimum two guests), the experience will begin from 6PM at Roberto's Muscat. Seating is limited, and advance reservations are highly recommended.

Microsoft increases prices on Xbox consoles, and more
London, UK – Microsoft has officially announced significant price increases across its Xbox product line, impacting consoles, accessories, and, later this year, first-party video game titles. The company cited 'market conditions and the rising cost of development' as primary reasons for the adjustments. Effective immediately, the price hike affects all Xbox Series consoles globally. Notably, the Xbox Series S (512GB) now retails at $379.99, up from $299.99, while the Xbox Series X (Standard Edition) rises to $599.99 from its previous $499.99. The limited Galaxy Special Edition of the Series X now costs $729.99, marking a considerable $130 increase. In terms of accessories, wireless controllers will see price revisions ranging from $64.99 to $89.99 depending on the model. The Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Full Package) increases to $199.99 from $179.99. Meanwhile, U.S. and Canadian customers will also face higher prices on Xbox headsets, with the Wireless Headset now priced at $119.99, up from $109.99. Although game prices remain unchanged for now, Microsoft confirmed that by the 2025 holiday season, new first-party titles will be priced at $79.99. This move aligns Xbox with broader industry trends, following similar price strategies adopted by both PlayStation and Nintendo. In an official statement Microsoft said: 'We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development. Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and ensuring value for Xbox players.' Upcoming first-party titles expected to adopt the $79.99 pricing include Call of Duty 2025, Fable, Perfect Dark, Clockwork Revolution, Everwild, Gears of War: E-Day, OD (by Hideo Kojima), and State of Decay 3. Fans may receive additional details during Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Games Showcase and The Outer Worlds 2 Direct event in June. This marks the first price increase for the Xbox Series S since its 2020 launch. Microsoft had previously refrained from raising U.S. prices during earlier global adjustments in 2023, even as competitors such as Sony introduced multiple regional increases on PlayStation 5 hardware. As economic pressures continue to impact manufacturing and development costs across the gaming sector, analysts expect further pricing recalibrations to remain a possibility industry-wide.

Oman targets 5,380 jobs for citizens in key sectors in 2025
Muscat – Oman's Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has reported notable progress in its 2025 drive to boost employment of nationals in the transport, logistics, and information technology sectors. In the first quarter of the year, 1,450 Omanis secured jobs in the transport and logistics sector, while 236 found employment in the IT sector. The ministry is targeting a total of 4,950 jobs in transport and logistics and 430 in IT by the end of 2025. A ministry official confirmed that the 21% Omanisation target in the transport and logistics sectors was achieved in the first quarter. The ministry is also aiming to reach 10% Omanisation in technical, specialised and leadership roles in both sectors, and an overall Omanisation rate of 63%, with 41% specifically in technical and leadership positions. To meet these goals, the ministry has introduced several policies and regulations. These include mandatory Omanisation quotas for consulting firms contracted by the ministry and a 20% Omanisation requirement for supervisory roles in the last-mile delivery sector. Efforts to build workforce readiness are also underway. Around 210 Omanis are currently participating in training programmes that include classroom instruction linked to employment. In collaboration with the Oman Logistics Association, 52 Omanis are undergoing training to become qualified heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers. In the IT sector, the ministry is promoting both structured employment and freelance work. As part of its Freelance Work Initiative, a contract has been signed with Awasr to provide 58 freelance opportunities for Omanis. Additionally, 50 nationals received hands-on training and job placements in semiconductor-related investment projects through the ministry's On-the-Job Training Initiative in Q1. The Makeen Initiative, aimed at equipping youth with digital skills to support entry into the digital economy, benefitted 990 Omanis during the same period. The ministry stated these initiatives reflect its commitment to creating sustainable employment opportunities for citizens.
